Caraun Reid of Princeton gets worked out by Bengals coach
Posted: March 21st, 2014 | Gil Brandt | Tags: Caraun Reid, Princeton

There were 10 NFL team represented at Princeton’s pro day on March 13, when defensive tackle prospect Caraun Reid was the top draw among the three players that worked out indoors on FieldTurf.

Reid (6-foot-2, 305 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.85 and 4.91 seconds. He had a 27 1/2-inch vertical jump. He stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine in the broad jump (8-foot-10), short shuttle (4.58 seconds), three-cone drill (7.59 seconds) and bench press (20 reps of 225 pounds). Reid has 33-inch arms.

NFL personnel in attendance were impressed with Reid’s pro day workout, which was conducted by Cincinnati Bengals defensive line coach Jay Hayes.

Last year, defensive end Mike Catapano became Princeton’s first drafted player in 12 years when he became a seventh-round selection of the Kansas City Chiefs. In the 1966 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins selected kicker Charlie Gogolak with the sixth overall selection, which is the highest a Princeton player has ever been drafted.

Ed Reynolds is an intriguing safety prospect.

I was all over him last year before he went back to school. He disappeared somewhat this year after leading the nation with 8 picks last year.  IMO, he'd be worth considering at 2 and hard to pass up on at 3.

2014 Pro Day Results: Friday, March 20, 8:55 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, http://draftinsider.net/

Vanderbilt_logo.gif Vanderbilt
Kenny Ladler was timed in the mid 4.5s to low 4.6s today, which was a major improvement from the high 4.6's he ran at the combine.

Vandy's other defensive back, Andre Hal, stood on his combine numbers, but looked terrific in drills.

As originally reported on NFL.com, receiver Jon Krause timed 4.37s in the forty, 4.04 in the short shuttle and 6.7s in the three cone. His vertical jump measured 38.5 inches and broad 10-8. Krause caught the ball exceptionally well in drills; in fact better than his higher-rated teammate, Jordan Matthews. He's getting a lot of interest as a potential late-round pick from the Indianapolis Colts, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans and New York Giants.

Offensive lineman Wesley Johnson, who played tackle at Vanderbilt, but is projected to center by a number of schools, weighed in at 302 pounds. Johnson's weight has been steadily increasing, which is what scouts had wanted to see. Johnson met with the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals at length after the workout.

Bengals attend Missouri Pro Day; Kony Ealy and Michael Sam Impress

The Bengals were at Missouri's pro day on Thursday, and one player there is a candidate for their first-round pick in May's NFL Draft.

According to SB Nation's own Matthew Fairburn, the Cincinnati Bengals were represented at Missouri's pro day. The Tigers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, and much of that had to do with their 41 sacks on defense, tied for the fourth-most in the nation.

19.5 of those came from defensive ends Michael Sam and Kony Ealy. While all the offseason attention has been paid to Sam for reasons unrelated to football, Ealy is the one who deserves the spotlight. He's been mocked to the Bengals several times, and he may be the best player available when the Bengals are on the clock at No. 24.

He may also be the best candidate to replace the production lost from Michael Johnson signing with the Buccaneers. Not only is Ealy a solid pass-rusher, but he also sets the edge well and is regarded as one of the best run-defending DE prospects in this draft.

Ealy was unofficially timed at 4.57 in the 40-yard dash, better than his 4.92 recording at the combine.

As for Sam, he ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial 4.73 seconds (4.91 at scouting combine), but was sidelined from his second attempt by a right hamstring strain. He also posted a 30-inch vertical, a five-inch improvement from what he posted at the scouting combine.

As far as projections go, the Bengals have to take Ealy at No. 24 if they want him, as he's unlikely to fall out of the top 50 picks. Sam is a different case, as most expect him to be picked somewhere around the fifth-round. Depending on how confident the Bengals are in Margus Hunt, Robert Geathers and/or Wallace Gilberry to start alongside Carlos Dunlap, they may select one of even both of the Mizzou pass-rushers.

Wouldn't that be something.

I read where one NFL scout said Johnson would be a 10 year starter in the league.

Ealy runs .35 and Sam runs .25 faster? Sounds like a fast track.  Take off the .25 and call him a 4.81, with 4.75 being generous.

For a CB projected to be late round pick...or even a UDFA...I thought Hal looked great at the combine. Kinda suprised to see he isn't ranked higher.

I didn't watch the combine this year.  Ladler is actually another guy that I wanted to see there.

Bengals attend Kent State Pro Day, probably to watch Dri Archer

By jason388 @JasonB_Marcum on Mar 20 2014, 11:58a 47

Dri Archer is the main attraction at Kent State's pro day, and the Bengals are there for the show.

The Bengals re-signed Bradon Tate last week in order to keep the team's best return-man in the fold, but that doesn't mean they won't look to bring another guy in to challenge him for his job. Cincinnati has already scouted De'Anthony Thomas and Brandin Cooks, two of college football's best returners over the past three seasons.

It's becoming evident that the Bengals want to snag a return-man at some point in the draft. With Tate on just a one-year deal, they need to get someone who can at least step into his role next year if he's not re-signed.

Now, Bengals scouts are at Kent State's pro day and likely scouting one of the most electrifying prospects in this year's draft class in Dri Archer.

The 5-foot-8, 173-pound ball of fire set a KSU single-season record with 23 touchdowns and was named Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Year and first-team All-MAC as a running back and kick returner in 2012. Slowed by an injured ankle as a senior, Archer scored 11 touchdowns and was named third-team All-MAC as a receiver and a kick returner.

Archer could play either running back or receiver in the NFL, though he was grouped with the backs for the NFL Scouting Combine. There, his 38-inch vertical jump tied for fourth at the position. He also bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times and posted a 122-inch broad jump.

Matt Waldman of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio has the best article on Archer you'll find, and he believes the Golden Flasher could flash greatness in the NFL. But that report was made before the 2013 season after Archer exploded onto the scene in 2012. Injuries and his team struggling to win in 2013 caused his stock to drop and now he could probably be had on Day 3 of the draft.

De'Anthony Thomas would just be a fun guy to have on the team. He isn't going to get drafted high like Tavon or Brandin Cooks because he isn't a polished WR and he is a bit more injury prone. But he is pretty electric on the field, even if he didn't time quite as fast as expected.

Hey, maybe I have a shot at the league!

Been banging the drum for this guy all off-season:

C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE (6-5 3/4, 266) — Fiedorowicz was worked out by Bengals tight ends coach Jonathan Hayes. He is ok, but not great at catching the ball, but is a really good blocker.

COMPLETELY agree on him. We have other pressing needs, but if he is there in the 4th, I'd jump all over him.
