He subscribes to the idea that toughness means cruelty so it's really not that surprising of a match.  Same reason dimbulb keeps talking about "weakness" and "power".  Weak people think being a crude, thoughtless asshole makes them tough.  Of course they're going to flock to the crudest, most thoughtless asshole.
