CincyInDC
There are far more effective ways to reduce the number of abortions in the US than outright banning it. But the shitstains banning it aren't actually interested in reducing the number of abortions. They just want more rabid fanatics.

Crazy how doing things like helping poor and working class folks..... the things Jesus told us to do...... reduces abortion yet in counties that have banned it those numbers have not gone down. It's almost like if Christians did the things Jesus said and helped the poor, while realizing he said nothing about this, abortion numbers might be really small. T-Dub
OK but consider this: who gives a shit what the Bible says about abortion. That's not a basis for law.

Jamie_B
The point I was making was if Christians acted like Christians none of this abortion debate would be a debate because the numbers would be incredibly low.

For example I've got no great admiration for the Catholic church but they're really the only ones around here trying to help immigrant communities. T-Dub
“The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.” ― Methodist Pastor David Barnhart

Shebengal
And now this. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/07/02/10-year-old-ohio-indiana-abortion-roe/7795409001/ 10 year old was raped by her stepfather. And Kristi Noem, governor of SD, called an abortion in this case “another tragedy.” https://www.newsweek.com/kristi-noem-challenged-question-ohio-child-rape-victims-abortion-1721295?amp=1 The state representative in Ohio who is proposing the complete ban, and who called a 13 year old girl getting pregnant an “opportunity “ to make a difference on another life, should be the one to raise it if she’s that concerned 😧. But of course she won’t, and she’ll vote against allowing any additional funding for Medicaid, expansion of SNAP, etc. It also struck me that all the pro choice spokespersons are female, while the chief spokesperson against abortion, the president of Ohio Right to Life, is male.
