Completely agree with this. Pratt and Wilson are still very good LBs, but it's hard when they have more guys to deal with because your DT play isn't good.

That said I think Davis-Gather is done as far as his contract, and I would like to find a replacement maybe even a guy who can cover TEs.

Agree..

A cover backer is needed badly.

We have to big 255lb run stoppers but ADG didn't fare well as a cover type..

So we add that to the list as well..

When the play of your DL, in particular the DTs drops off, your LBs suffer.  Instead of being free to make plays they have to deal with guards and centers in their face.  Makes a big difference.

But their coverage was terrible.

Lateral?  Wouldn't the Bengals have to approve that?  I think they have only okay'd moves that were 'promotions'.

Accurate.

Callahan is not head coaching material IMHO, so unless they are doing the thing the Bengals do and give him "assistant head coach" while still being the OC, I don't see it.

Five picks between 'em.  Wilson is a good zone coverage LB.  Maybe not as great man to man.  Not many LBs can cover TEs.  Both of them are good at creating turnovers.

Callahan has interviewed the last two cycles. He's on most lists from experts. It would be a surprise if he doesn't interview this time around especially given that we won't be in the playoffs and teams can interview him while other candidates are off limits.

True.

I don't see him as. HC..

Too many candidates ahead of him.

He succeeded with JB..

Not so much without him.

I think Brownings success is going to be looked at as a positive for him. Browning had a better passer rating than Burrow this year and they strung together some wins. Taylor's biggest strength is the culture he created and Callahan's a huge part of that. If you ever hear him interviewed he is destined for a head job somewhere.

I give it about 50-50 chance this year.

There are currently 3 jobs open Panthers-Chargers-Raiders

Commanders likely to replace their coach. Patriots might want a coach. That's 5 most likely openings with maybe more?

Panthers reportedly want Lions OC. Interviewed him last time and he pulled out.

Raiders might stick with Antonio Pierce. They are interviewing Trey Brown for their GM job.

Chargers want either Harbaugh or Bellicheck but I assume will get neither.

The 49ers offensive tree will be in demand with both the Texans and Dolphins OC's getting interviews.

Brian Flores probably gets an interview.

Bengals assistant gm could get gm job in New England or Raiders---ties to both. Worked in NE has interviewed for Raiders job twice. That would increase Callahans chances in both places.

The fact were not in the playoffs is exactly why I don't think he gets a job. I think Pitcher is more likely due to his work with Browning.

Our LB play has been garbage for years. They make splash plays but they can't play the run to save their lives. They never plug holes adequately, let the run come to them, frequently over pursue and wash themselves out of the play, and are slow as molasses in the pass game.

Aside from getting and elite 3Tech to put legit pressure form the inside, LB is up there with a dominant speed-to-power rusher (to go with Hendrickson) that would take this team to the next level. Plainly spoken, the D needs a QB on the field who is also a tone setter, and right now they don't have that.

Just throwing this out there but I wonder if they would consider bring in Jordan Palmer as a quarterback

coach or at least consultant of some sort?

I wonder if Palmer is making more money just doing what he currently is doing vs being a full time QB coach for a team?

Id say he's making more money now than he would as a QB coach full-time.

He services are widely used by many QBs.

Id love to see the team try and sign the Oline guru Duke Manyweather but he makes alot running his camps.
