Rick Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 It seems like Chick Ludwig want out of Cincinnati. His writing leaves much to desire. Do you think he is doing this because he really does not care about the Bengals? No, I don't want a HOMER reporting for the Bengals, but come on!

scharm Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 I think Chick and the rest of local media got their feelings hurt. They sat through the down years, but the coaches were home grown and comfortable so it made it difficult for them to really cut into them because they were friends or old relationships. Coslet been with the Bengals since Paul, Lebeau been with the Bengals since 1980. Alot of the staff were former bengals or from the Paul Brown coaching tree. So I imagine it was difficult covering shitty teams and trying not to hurt those old relationships. New Blood with Marvin, came with an up tick in performance. Great? Nope, he's a dick to them. So now they got a better product to cover but have to deal with a guy that they simply do not like. It shows. I think they do a poor job because of it.

Talking about growing up and listening and loving the Clowns. And how great their old stadium was, and their old announcers. :nasty:
Bengals1181 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 even though Chick is from Cincinnati, he's never been much of a fan it seems. graduated high school in '72 when the Bengals were first getting started, and has never been back. Chick is an attention whore and an embarassment to the journalism community.

He grew up rooting for the Browns even though he lived in Cincinnati because Cincinnati didn't have a team yet. Now he is one of the biggest Bengals fans I know, but he still has fond childhood memories of the Browns. Calling Chick a Browns fan fits right in with the logic around here lately though...

Daugherty wrote a book about Chad, yet bashes him every week.
oldschooler Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 To be fair to Chick, he said he was a Browns fan from back in the 50' and 60's. That was before there was a Bengals franchise. Alot of people were Browns fans then. And converted to Bengals fans after. And he also said he is not a fan of this version of the Browns.

Jeb Posted May 3, 2008 Report Posted May 3, 2008 This one is a gift to the Chickster ...
(Rotoworld) Free agent LB Edgerton Hartwell has agreed to a deal with the Raiders. Oakland is hoping Hartwell can give the team a veteran presence at middle linebacker.
http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2004/v...ID=200805030856 ...chew on that for a while Chick, ...and enjoy!

There are quite a few of the locals Marvin's nice to, particularly the TV guys. For guys like Chick though, you ask a dumbass question, you get a dumbass response.

Marvin gives Chick's 7th grade journalism all the respect in deserves.... none.
mongo Posted May 4, 2008 Report Posted May 4, 2008 In the beginning, I think Chick asked the tough questions. I think he wanted to be Sam Donaldson to Ronald Reagan. I think Marvin wanted none of it, and brushed him off. I think both Marvin and Chick have devolved into something really childish when they are together... I also think Chick's "Chickster" stuff is just plain bad. I think he meant to create a different voice to use every once in awhile. The trouble is, no one makes the distinctions in voice. Chick's character creation has turned all of Chick into a joke. It was a lousy move on his part, and I don't see him trying to change that... There was a time when he was willing to ask a hard question, but still maintain credibility as a reporter. Now, he's just kind of a punchline.
