But in the spirit of this new egoless team spirit, he didn’t elaborate Wednesday when asked if he thought the running game was more in sync last Sunday in Tennessee.

“It’s tough for me to comment on that; things are a little bit different this season,” Benson said. “We’re doing a lot more rotating, so I can’t really address the consistency. Whether it’s there, not there, when it’s there when it’s not there. I just try to be as consistent as I can be.”
While I very much appreciate what Cedric has done and hope he is successful the rest of this year and gets paid next year, I just hope it isn't by us. This type of quote is exactly what I believe this team has been trying to get rid of and he seems to be the only "me" guy left.

Not sure I'm seeing the "me" in that statement. Other than he tries to be as consistent as "he" can be.

at least with the quote, I get the impression his point is that the rotation is keeping him from getting into the flow og the game and finding a rhythm. Bernard Scott said the same thing prior to the seattle game, that him only playing 1 out of every 3 series was keeping him from finding rhythm, and that he was excited to play a full game.

I thought this would come out of that - I just think he was trying to be careful and not say anything that could be seen as critical of Bernard and the coaches.

While being critical of Bernard and the coaches. I agree with Mr Treehorn...Cedric has always seemed to have a stick up his ass about playing time. Maybe its because early in his NFL career he always had to fight for it, became "the man" once in Cincinnati in late 2008 and in 2009, stumbled and fumbled through 2010 and now expects to be the man again. Sorry Cedric...there's only one ball and you can't have it all the time. We have other dudes that can play too. Deal with it.

An oldie but still a classic.

Edit: I removed the flash. My computer would nto stop playing these things simultaneously and without interaction.

The quote doesn't scream "me me me" but it seems to be a culmination of things. He just seems so against showing any support for B. Scott or for anything that doesn't involve him directly. Idk maybe I read too much into quotes like this, and him not watching our game when he's suspended, or consistently complaining about playing time, but I just think he doesn't have the "team above all else" mentality that the team seems to be striving for.

Seems like not bitching about it in public is a way to handle it. Teasing it out by force isn't really fair. He wants the ball, like everyone else on the offense. This isn't unusual, but when Scott says he wants more carries, it is understandable but when Ced says it he's a cancer.

I agreed with him that going away from the run in general was a mistake for the team in 2010, which we did long before he stared fumbling. I didn't follow his every word last year but those I heard seemed to be fair enough questions about team strategy.

I don't see the need to create issues where there may be little or nothing behind it.

Jeez - considering that his suspension was from trouble at a bar in Texas, I think trashing him for staying the fuck out of bars in Texas during the suspension is pretty lame.

I'll admit he has an odd manner in his interviews. He doesn't have the standard patter down, which can be refreshing.

Throwback Game of the Week

The Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers have been division rivals since the merger of the American Football League and the National Football League in 1970. The twice-per-year matchup has produced many memorable games. The teams meet for the first time in 2011 this Sunday and will have a rematch in just three weeks.

In all, the Steelers hold a 49-32 lead in the regular season series and have also won the lone playoff game between the two clubs. A team has swept the season series in each of the past four seasons with the Steelers winning both games in 2007, 2008, and last year. Cincinnati came away with a pair of victories over Pittsburgh in 2009.

Nov. 2, 1970. The series began on Monday Night Football. The game remained close until the Steelers pulled away with a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns after quarterback Terry Hanratty came off the bench in relief of a struggling Terry Bradshaw. Hanratty led two touchdown drives in the fourth quarter. Pittsburgh, trailing by three, scored their game-winner on a 72-yard pass from Hanratty to rookie tight end Dennis Hughes early in the fourth. It was Hughes' second TD grab of the game. Warren Bankston sealed the win on a 2-yard TD run five minutes later as Pittsburgh won 21-10.

The loss marked the sixth straight suffered by the Bengals after they opened the season with a win. Fortunately for Cincy, it turned out to be their last defeat of the regular season. The Bengals reeled off a seven-game winning streak to finish 8-6-0 and win the division.

Bengals. Boomer Esiason was one of the NFL's finest passers during his career, most of which was spent with Cincinnati.

The Bengals and Steelers each have had a receiver catch exactly 13 balls in a game against one another. Carl Pickens (right) provided some of the few highlights for Cincinnati during a dismal 3-13 season in 1998 when he burned the Steelers for 13 receptions in a 25-20 win.

Conversely, the Bengals were the victim of Hines Ward's 13-catch game for Pittsburgh on Nov. 30, 2003. However, unlike Pickens total that is a franchise record, Ward fell just one shy of the Steelers single-game mark that belongs to Courtney Hawkins.

Steelers. Unless the weather forecast takes a horrible turn for the worse, Pittsburgh can find some comfort in knowing that they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals under unseasonably warm weather conditions for November. Pittsburgh can be fairly certain the temperature won't be what it was when they faced the Bengals in Cincinnati in 1977. That game, played on Dec. 10, was the coldest game in Steelers history with the thermometer reading just two degrees.

Bengals. Cincinnati can only hope for the type of day they had against the Steelers on Oct. 14, 1979. That day they victimized the Steelers for nine fumbles with all but two ending up in Cincinnati's possession. Considering that mark is tied for the second most ever by a team in one game, Cincinnati had better hope for another plan of attack in order to get a win this weekend.

Dee-fense!

It wouldn't have taken many characters for this message from @Steelers following their 24-14 win over Cincinnati on Monday Night Football in 1983. All of Pittsburgh's touchdowns were scored on defense in this game played on Oct. 10, 1983. It started with a 38-yard fumble return for a TD by safety Rick Woods and was capped by a pair of interceptions returns for scores in the fourth quarter (34 yards by Ron Johnson and 70 yards by rookie Harvey Clayton). The Steelers defense also racked up a then-team record nine sacks. The first came when they knocked Ken Anderson out of the game and the final eight were against backup Turk Schonert.

I don't have a problem with this specific quote. But if you read it within the context of the rest of his public statements from the past year +, he seems way too worried about his stats as opposed to team success.

I agree with others that I hope we are able to find a better option at RB this offseason. I think he'll be fine to get through these next 8 games without any issues. But I hope that we don't take the risk that an aging Cedric Benson doesn't become a big locker room problem over the next 2/3 years when his carries and effectiveness continue to diminish while he still obviously thinks he should be "the man."

Smith was benched by Marvin Lewis at one point after giving up a critical sack during the 27-21 defeat. The third-year tackle improved dramatically from a year ago, but he's uninterested in rehashing those teaching points. "I want to just forget that game," he said.

Steelers looking at record low for takeaways

By Mark Kaboly, PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, November 10, 2011

The Steelers are on pace for the lowest number of takeaways in NFL history. They have only four through nine games — two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. However, the Steelers are still the third-ranked defense in the NFL.

"Great defenses make people turn the ball over," nose tackle Casey Hampton said. "We haven't been doing a good job of that, but it is coming."

Under defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau's watch since he returned in 2004, the Steelers have never had fewer than 22 turnovers in a season (2009). Their most came in 2004, when they had 19 interceptions and 13 fumbles.

>> If James Harrison appeared like he didn't miss any time away from the field when he sacked Baltimore's Joe Flacco three times Sunday, there's a reason. Harrison spent every Monday working out with strength coach Garrett Giemont simulating plays on the practice field.

"We did a series of plays whatever the situation was in the game, we would do 60 or 70 plays or so and try to keep up what conditioning I had," Harrison said.

Harrison said that his surgically repaired orbital bone that kept him on the sidelines for four games swelled up a little following the game, but that was expected.

"No pain and no other issues," Harrison said.

>> Receivers Arnaz Battle (hamstring), Jerricho Cotchery (knee) and Emmanuel Sanders (knee), linebackers Stevenson Sylvester (knee) and LaMarr Woodley (hamstring) and safety Troy Polamalu (rib) did not practice yesterday. Receiver Hines Ward (concussion-like symptoms), guard Doug Legursky (toe) and linebacker James Farrior (calf) fully participated.

>> The Steelers claimed defensive end Al Woods off waivers from Seattle and released linebacker Mortty Ivy. Woods was drafted in the fourth round by New Orleans in 2010 and spent time on the Steelers practice squad last year. Woods played in two games for the Seahawks and recorded two tackles.

The pass-blocking of RT Andre Smith provided the biggest reason for his marked improvement this season. Since shutting out Colts' DE Robert Mathis three games ago, he's played with a different confidence. "It has helped me mentally on the field as far as being confident in my passes and being able to adjust to whatever the defender does," he said.

DE Carlos Dunlap (hamstring) did not practice for the second consecutive day Thursday. That doesn't mean he will absolutely miss the Pittsburgh game, but Marvin Lewis is adamant about seeing injured players practice before they play on Sunday. Dunlap's chances of playing take a hit with the Thursday absence.

The tight end situation for Sunday could be iffy leading up to kickoff. TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) didn't practice after being limited on Wednesday. TE Donald Lee (ankle) missed his second consecutive practice Thursday. That leaves only undrafted rookie tight end Colin Cochart on the 53-man roster.

Good one, Old!

Well that shit pisses me off.

They both have played the Seahawks and won, except the Bengals beat them on the road.
They both have played the Colts and won, except the Stealers beat them on the road.
They both have played the Jags and won, except the Bengals beat them on the road.
They both have played the Titans and won, except the Bengals beat them on the road.
They both have played AFC East teams that are 5-3 and won. The team the Bengals
beat also beat the team the Stealers beat.

The Stealers have lost to every winning team they have played except for the Pats.
They lost to the Texans and Ravens twice.

They have played one more game than the Bengals, but that was against the Cards.

I think it is stupid to point to the Bengals "weak" schedule while ignoring the Stealers.
The only reason they do that to the Bengals is to degrade them.

simma' down. They're probably just being cautious with everybody. They're still working on the side with coaches, its not like they're doing nothing at all.

Very rare to see a guy practice one day then skip it the next day and play. Except maybe a veteran rest type of day. Limited practice means they are being cautious, no practice at all means they don't think he can go. At least that is how I read it.
