Steelers Week, Part Deux

DeCastro played better than I expected him to, honestly.

Remember, he's a rookie coming off a major knee injury with barely 3 weeks of minimal-contact practice under his belt.

Expecting him to come in and play like a Pro Bowler against one of the better pass rushes in the league is a lot to ask.

I expect him to have his struggles the rest of this season, as most rookies do during their first few games. Next year will be the true test of where he stands.

I think that's accurate. I expect that he will be a good player, especially as a pulling G but it'll be interesting to see how well he anchors since that was a bit of a knock on him coming out.

I'm sure an offseason in the weight room will help there.

I seem to remember him doing very well against us in the first game. So I have that wrong?

You would have it wrong if you seem to remember his doing well against anyone. No seriously, he's not THAT bad but he's very unrefined it seems. He would be one of the line spots that you could plan to attack.

Damn the Stealer injury report is starting to get my hopes way up. God I would just love a good ole fashioned ass whipping in front of those inbred sister err kissers. Offense intended Bam.

Why couldn't Sanchez be their QB.

It's all about how our OTs handle their pass rush. Whitworth seems to struggle against shorter, more powerful guys who can get under him. Those are the type of guys Pitt has.

I think if Andy gets time, he can carve up this secondary....

The OL will probably win or lose this one for us.

He had good history against Harrison.

Yeah I worry less there. The two line spots I worry more about now are Brett Keisel vs. Boling and LaMarr Woodley vs. Andre, especially since Woodley is similar to Brandon Graham, who had a lot of success last week.

I also worry that LeBeau is scheming to do similar and more souped-up stunts and twists after seeing the Philly game last week.

I just watched the first game against Pitt. Our O-Line handled them very well. And we ran pretty much at will, it seemed, except for a few times at the end of the game.

This game seemed to follow the typical formula of so many of our games this year. We take off to a fast start (14-3, which, fairly, should have been 14-14 if the Steelers didn't drop two gimme TD's) and then the offense starts to drop passes, and Andy misses a few balls. (Ironically, the interview with ML before the game was about the team lacking a Killer Instinct. Anyway, the Steelers pull to 14-6 and then Andy throws a pick. How many times this year has that been the case? We're rolling and then the pick causes a huge turn around?

From that point on the game pretty much belonged to Pitt. The Offense couldn't sustain any drives, mostly because of dropped or slightly off target passes. Of course, Ben was his usual self and kept alive in the pocket forever, which allowed him to find WIDE OPEN receivers, but I think you have to accept that's going to happen a few times a game with him.

The most interesting thing is how much we turned to the pass, which was struggling - especially with the coverage rolled to cover AJ - and failed to run the ball even though it was going quite well.

Of course, this was one of the Heavier Rey games, so we may improve there. The Steelers got most of their run yards in garbage time, thanks to a couple of missed tackles.

I just don't see how this team can watch that film and be anything but optimistic. It's a cliché, but our greatest enemy is really ourselves.

On the flip side, if this is the case, the Bengals could use the Philly game tape as prep for the Steelers blitzes.

Steelers and Bengals do not give up long runs. Steelers have allowed 4 runs of 20 yards or more (1st). Bengals only allowed five (2nd).[/background]

Neat little stat. Bengals ranked 30th on passes 20 yards or more (33). However they rank second on passes 40 yards or more (13).[/background]

Wow. Exhibit 1A that we can improve our underneath pass coverage (LB's, I'm talking to you!)

IMO it speaks more to the fact that the DB's aren't great cutters.

The LB's have their own issues, but they aren't often covering guys more than 20yds downfield.
