The Bengals vs. the NFL

Unless there's something specific I'm missing from the past between certain members (which is a high possibility), I don't see how objectively analyzing a situation involving the Stealers makes you a fan of their team. Just because a person is capable of having a rational discussion when it comes to Bengals vs Stealers doesn't mean they are less of a Bengals fan. That seems very petty to say about somebody.

Fuck the Stealers and everything about that organization, but being realistic when analyzing a football game certainly isn't a bad thing.

You are correct, you are missing something. When someone goes consistently and historically out of their way to praise every jot and tittle of every thing those bastards do--while at the same time consistently and historically belittling every jot and tittle of everything the Bengals do or don't do (including reminding everyone in each post of how long it has been since the last playoff win), is neither rational or analytical.

I'm going to check this out more when I have some time to actually read through a lot of the website. There's some interesting stuff on there that I've seen so far. Thanks for actually providing me with some modern examples instead of making a dozen condescending "LOL CONSPIRACY HAHAHAHAHAHA" posts while ignoring any real argument.

Ah yes I figured I was missing something with that. SF is someone that I haven't really had many in depth conversations with and haven't noticed any trends with his posting habits as of yet, so I wouldn't know, but thanks for clarifying the situation for me. I assumed it was deeper than just the commentary in this thread alone. I mean, historically speaking, the Stealers have a lot more to be proud of than the Bengals, but I can see how it would bother some Bengals fans if it's brought up consistently.

Hey at least our argument led to something constructive, even if it wasn't you that provided the information for me. Thanks for the wonderful contributions.

Guy.. I linked you to 2 different articles, one a RICO case investigation, and an entire book FFS.  You dismissed 2/3 because they weren't recent enough for you and ignored the other entirely.  Short of reading them to you while you sip a juicebox I'm not sure what it is you expected.

Yeah I asked you like a dozen times for modern examples. You poked fun at LOL CONSPUIRACY AHAHAHAHA CONSPIRACY THEORYYYZZZ HOLOCAUSST DENIER rather than providing me with a simple link as PatternMaster has done.

Do you really consider that to be such high expectations for someone to back up what they're arguing?

The argument was whether the NFL is rigged right now, not 50 years ago, so yes, I wanted modern examples. I didn't dismiss articles and books discussing the 1960's for no reason.

See, IMHO knowing how a business was founded and by whom is entirely relevant to how they might conduct that business.  Yes, even 50 whole years later.

Sure and while it could be considered relevant, I asked multiple times for anything that could possibly even suggest or prove that things are still going on today other than officiating crews being inconsistent. Anyway, no point to keep arguing back and forth, so let's just move past that part of this. You provided me with examples from the past, PatternMaster provided me with examples from the present, so now I have an entire 60 years worth of stuff to look at. We're good.

The article linked above is interesting but I feel like they're adding in too much bullshit to be taken seriously which could turn some people off so you have to ignore the fluff. Tom Brady's home record and the Rams beating the Seahawks once aren't smoking guns. Hell, I don't even think those things should be mentioned. IMO the guy should stick with the stuff that actually looks fishy. I'm willing to read through most of the pages he has up there once I have more time, but I could see a lot of people wanting to dismiss the entire website if they don't want to dig through the BS to find the questionable offenses.

Yes, that site is certainly.. thorough.

Once the seasons starts, try looking up the point spread and more importantly the over/under for a SNF/MNF game where you don't care who wins.  I found it pretty interesting, at least.  You know those times when you're watching a game and see a coach send in the FG unit down by two scores and with like 3-4 minutes left? Like "why the hell are you kicking a meaningless FG here?!"  They started making a lot more sense once I knew the line for that game.

A more recent example would be Ed DeBartolo Jr., former owner of the 49er's who was forced to surrender his position as owner to his sister because of his involvement with bribing a governor to receive a gambling license..

Quote

DeBartolo was involved in the 1998 corruption case of former Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards. DeBartolo pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to report a felony, and received a $1,000,000 fine and 2 years of probation in return for his testimony against Edwards. Edwards was on trial for extortion and other charges, among which were the $400,000 he demanded from DeBartolo to gain a river boat casino license.[10]DeBartolo never received the license, was fined by the NFL, and barred from active control of the 49ers for a year.[11]

The DeBartolo family has long been suspected of having mafia ties....http://www.brasscheck.com/stadium/moldea.html

The same thing happens in the NBA all the time, hell Sports Center actually has a segment on the late night version with SVP called bad beats. If you think the players, coaches, and refs don't have a clue about the spreads and o/u and this is all a coincidence..god bless you.

Oh trust me, once I started betting on games (let's pretend that I live in Vegas for the sake of this discussion ^_^), I've thrown more than 1 or 2 YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at my television when a team does something strange like that to cover/not cover a spread. I honestly don't notice it enough for there to be a legitimate pattern with it happening at a certain frequency, but I have no data to prove that whatsoever. Just going by what I've noticed in the years that I bet more heavily. I won't say that it hasn't made me think about some things when it does happen though.

I will concede this, maybe I'm wrong for calling it a "conspiracy theory" since to a lot of folks, it lumps this in with stuff like 9/11 which obviously has plenty of huge differences. And I also do believe that more than 0 people involved with the NFL are "crooked", so to speak.

However, my overall point is that I'm not so sure it's as rampant as T-Dub, PM, and some other guys around here seem to think. I don't think it's some giant issue that starts at the top and runs down through every organization and affects every organization. There are some bad apples here and there that come and go, but I don't think the gambling and mob ties in 2017 are anything like they could have been back in the 70's for example. There is some crooked shit that happens in my field and I'm sure a lot of guys here could say the same, it's almost impossible to find a business that's run 100% above board with every single little nuance being legitimate.

When I call it a conspiracy or say that it's a bunch of bullshit, I'm not saying that every tiny detail is bullshit, just that it isn't so rampant that the NFL is unwatchable due to the "rigging" as some people on the internet will claim. I have a friend or two that won't even watch football anymore because they think every bad call against their team is because of Roger Goddell himself, it's that kind of stuff that I can't even begin to get behind.

Non seqiutur. I am not the Stealer fan, unlike you.

No, you are the dude living in a bunker who thinks Hill fumbled on purpose by order of the league.

In order to buy into your nonsense, our players and owner are involved as well so why even come here?

The game was won until we choked, get over it.  Marvin chokes against Shitsburgh all the time, why are you surprised?

It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works. I first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love... Yes, a profound sense of fatigue, a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I — I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence. I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women, er, women sense my power, and they seek the life essence. I do not avoid women, Mandrake...but I do deny them my essence.

I'm curious; how do you explain them sending the same ref crew they'd reprimanded afterwards for the rematch, one which they scheduled during Burfict's suspension?

Did the Bengals also choke the schedule and the officiating assignments, do you think that was all random, the Bengals deserve it.. Very interested in your rationale.

That game has nothing to do with the playoff game we choked away.   Your just yelling squirrel.  If you think the games are rigged then Hill must be part of the conspiracy.

Nice deflection.  I didn't realize Hill's fumble was the only play in 4 quarters of 2 different games but I admit I did zone out of a few times. How did Burfict get suspended for that? Very odd.

In the future, you could save us both the trouble and not respond instead of going through the trouble of halfassedly trying to avoid a direct question.  Not like I was moving the goalposts and then badgering you about it like certain other posters up-thread.  Simple question you refuse to even consider and then you accuse me of trying to change the subject?  Cute.

Why would they need a different referee crew?  Because you were mad?

The majority of crews are based on proximity.  That crew didn't suspend Burfict, the league did because he was a horribly dirty player in college and up to that point was still a dirty player. That hit on Brown was fucking stupid.  Leads with his helmet and tries to hurt everyone he tackles.

Sad thing was he was by far the MVP of the game until that hit, then he just reaffirmed why he was undrafted to the rest of the country.

He was much better last year.

Yeah, that's why. Definitely not because they failed to control a heated game and let penalties dictate the outcome.  It was just me, nothing to see here. NFL officiating is completely unbiased but if it isn't then the Bengals deserved it anyway because Burfict is a Dirty Player and doesn't Do Things the Right Way like, say, Mike Mitchell.

Anyway this is pointless.. I'm over it. Have fun with your Stockholm Syndrome and role as Designated Steeler Apologist.
