Something is better than nothing. Murphy will be fine I think and if Jackson can just be immovable that an improvement.

yea this is where i am at, the packups going down then starters going down left 3rd string and guys sitting at home being our starters, which effects th elinebacker anad th eseconday drastically. just getting competent guys helps all 3 phases of the defense, and there isnt a ton of film of our whole defense playing together and what tendencies we may present with that personell, so that could be a win for us, unless they are all out of wack from not playing lately, then we still suck.

Agree Zach Carter was way over drafted as a 3rd round pick

lol, well, he was projected as a 4th rounder, he was drafted with the 31st pick in the 3rd... so im not sure he was overdrafted let alone WAY overdrafted.

How does this disprove anything? If they were allowed 54 spots he'd still be on the roster. 😆

and if the endzone was 1" deeper the Cheifs my have another loss and the Ravens another win, neither of which has anything to do with anything, like talking about a 54 man roster. he was a third stringer, he got opportunities, failed, and was cut, so any of this stance is strange really.

Why do they have to disprove anything?

Someone was claiming that by cutting a late 3rd round pick after 2 years to clear a roster space it proves the Bengals never get overly invested in their draft picks.

Kinda silly.

with draft picks panning out in the first two rounds at about 33%, a third rounder being less, how many 3rd round picks would you guess get cut in less time?

every team gives affordable assets opportunity to be useful, just look at the talent on the market (Guy), so why wouldnt you?

this schtick that the bengals behave differently about draft pick assets on the roster than anyone else is ridiculous.

it really feels like 90%+ of the bengals fanbase and "media" coverage has never seen another team play, draft, trade, sign, fire, hire anything ever in their lives.

there isnt a bigger hater ont he planet than myself, maybe joe burrow, but then im second.

sadly the explanation is lack of better options, aside from revisionist history, they drafted 6 linemen in the last 4 years, given the league wide 33% success rate even on TOP draft picks, that means two of those need to pan out. Mims is looking the part early, maybe Matt Lee is the center of the future.

1. so that covers the fact that they have tried to draft many linemen.

2. we have signed several linemen in free agency, Karras, Cappa, Brown, Brown, the white dude who got hurt playing RT for us, and im sure i missing a few, in that same span.

3. What would you want them to do? let me guess...

1. sign a free agent - cool idea, we have many times over established that there arent enough good linemen for even HALF the league to have 5 good linemen. but somehow, ones gonna hit the market, not wanna cash in on being one of very few good ones, they and their family are willing to live in kentucky as young millionaires, and be a fit for the spot we need them at. what would you guess the odds of that happening are? fairly close to none.

2. Draft one - they keep drafting players like everyone else, and about a third of them in the high rounds pan out, later rounds even less, there are 22 positions plus teams, so 25 spots give or take you gotta fill, so they cant just reach and hope they are one of the 33% that are worth having and keeping. so theyve done it often, and are having about the results everyone else does in doing so.

no one (maybe joe) wants Volson replaced more than me, but its not like there is a clear, obvious, improvement, thats available and willing, and if you cross all those hurdles, thats affordable.

so they make efforts to minimize the damage, like a smart organization, grab Moss who is a smart, quick strong vet, and park his ass in one of Volsons gaps(pause) to help joe stay alive.. and currently joe is one of the least sacked QBs in the nfl this year.

volson sucks, id love to just try one of the backups, but the team and coaches arent fools, if one was close ort he same they would probably give them a shot, so either backups are dumb, not ready, give less effort, etc. no idea.. but i hate it and i hate volson.

does that make sense? and do you agree or disagree with any of it?

I do have a hard time reconciling "Volson is comically, historically bad" with "there are literally no better options in either the draft or free agency".

10 draft picks this year and they spend not a one on guard.  This would suggest that either they don't recognize the problem, or he's not as bad as you think.

i think we can shelve them not recognizing he is bad, with the Moss role parked in his pocket in some passing downs, its clear they know.

i also wish theyd have dropped another pick or two on the OL, are they hpping Lee can be C and Cappa move to LG? just didnt have the value? not sure. but the defense needed some picks once again, and we needed to backload WR, etc.

Another point of evidence that they are well aware he sucks, burrow, who CLEARLY has his best oline of his career here, when asked if he thinks its the best, had to pause and do some gymnastics to avoid saying no. and frankly Volson and old broken Brown gotta be in his recent memory. so i personally think its clear they know.

I think Volson was about the level of many guys we had early in Joes career, and he is smart and full effort everyday, so he got the opportunity, then you hope linemen take steps and improve, which Volson likely did, he went from getting tossed around by 3rd stringers to only being tossed around by first stringer, so now in year 3, its clear he isnt gonna be the guy.

so i just picture the front office with a real or imaginary board of players, depth, contracts, and things that need filling, and the draft guys do their thing, the front office guys do thier thing, and you fill everything you can, but there are 25 NFL teams out there with a Volson level talent starting this weekend. maybe more than 25, and they all wish there was a safe or easy fix for it.

Volson is the GOAT.

The older, former meaning of "Scapegoat". :liberalmedia:

He's the designated Dog to be Kicked

I believe is was you, actually, who answered my question about the new meaning.

I pointed out his play on the one Mims highlight reel and it was the other guard who

inexplicably pulled on a passing play and got Burrow hammered.

He is the team outlier.

In the off season, Joe goes to Paris and styles and profiles in a ridiculous suit that ties

up the back like a crowd scene extra's costume in "The Walking Dead" and Conrad goes

home and lifers diesel locomotives back on to the tracks in the family business.

It does sometimes seem that way to me as well. Coaches, owners & FO are blameless, the defense forgot how to tackle because injuries, meanwhile the offense is dropping 30+ a game but it's Volson holding us back.
