As you all know, I have been cramming for ways to get this place to a neutral or hell, maybe even profitable state of being. I will settle for the neutral if need be. This forum serves 2-3 purposes.

1. There is lots of talk during the season on sports betting and putting money on a game here or there. This is a good palce to do it without the topics being buried 10 minutes later with 25 games threads starting each hour, chat compare bets and history and preferences.

2. Open the opportunity up to others. Many ask where to bet, how to bet, and what the lines and +115/-110 means, and how to wager this or that. We have a pro here at just about everything, this is a solid place for the rookies to get their feet wet with an honest good hearted group to guide them into some bets to try the waters.

3. Make some money. I have signed up for and been approved (harder than you think) with an affiliate program with Bodog.com. I get a spiff for each members who signs up through one of the links on the site and deposits $20 or more, just twenty bucks on a bet of your choice, Casino, Sports Book, Poker, or horse races. Just $20 earnes us between $80-$150 per user that signs up. a few members a month goes a long way for the finances of the site and its future. The site isnt in a dire state and isnt about to plummet, things are good thanks to many generous members donating and buying the merchandise to help keep us positive in the books. This is another way to offer something back for peoples money, instead of having our hand out every few months you can toss $20 on red or double down in blackjack and help us just as much and donating a Benjamin! maybe we both win, you win some coin from the bet and the site wins an affiliate payout.

Below are my affiliate links to sign up, there is also a 10% deposit bonus, so if you deposit $20 youll get $22 to bet with, Depsoit $50 you get $55 to bet with, etc.

I can really see this forum taking off. Especially once football season starts.

I've always stayed away from online gambling, because I love to gamble, but I'm not very good. Never really tried sports betting though, other than "office pools" for the big events. I tend to bet my heart, not my brain.

Discussing the games as a group, we might be able to come to a consensus and have some success. We could have polls for every game and see if we develop a better than 50% success rate. Shit like that.

My wife owes me a birthday present, and she keeps suggesting things and asking me what I want. Maybe a few hundred bucks to gamble with would be fun.

But anyway. If I sign up and bet $20 on anything I want, go-bengals.com gets money no matter if I win or lose?

exactly, you could win a million bucks and they would be out $1,000,100 cause they gotta pay me too.

tho the affiliate guy and i had a chuckle as i used that example and he said, majority of people dont win it big, thats kinda why we are in business.*laughter*

but yes, a measly twenty bones makes the site about a hunnid bucks profit.

Why do you think I don't have a state income tax? :headbang:

I actually rarely gamble, but if tossing in $20 will make you $100, it's still cheaper for me than writing a check for $50...

Canada is still ok, although the banks have recently made the move to not allow deposits into sportbooks from credit cards due to fraud.
What about all the sites that advertise, like on the texas hold'em tournaments on tv? Poker Stars, and all that. Are you saying they're illegal?

FAQ:

Where is Bodog.com located and licensed?

Bodog.com is licensed by the government of Antigua, and our offices are located in Antigua.

and also interesting....

Can I have a private poker tournament?

YES. We encourage our affiliates to develop unique initiatives to grow their business and create customer loyalty within their sites. Depending on the goals of your tournaments you can either run a one off private tournament with a buy-in or as a freeroll, or a leader board style tournament - you decide! These tournaments offer players the opportunity to test drive the Bodog interface, and can be the extra push needed in getting people to sign up. We require about a 2 week lead time and there are a few requirements

Just so every one knows, the Internet Gambling Act that was passed made it illegal for financial instutions to transfer money to gambling sites, and it also made it illegal for the sites to accept a wager. Since all of these sites are outside the U.S. the law does not apply.

As for the gambler, there is nothing to make it illegal. For those opposed to gambling, they usually state the wire act which made it illegal to use a telephone to conduct sports bets. No where under this act does it cover the internet since the internet didn't exist and if it did, it would only apply to sports wagers and no other gambling. Also, the recently passed Gambling Act did not make it illegal for the gambler to make a deposit or a wager on any of these sites. So in short, as long as you can find a way to make a deposit, you should be safe from prosecution.

SIDE NOTE: I am not a lawyer, I only stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :) I know this information from careful study as I've been playing internet poker for close to 3 years now.

As for a go-bengals-forum tourney, I'm game.

So you're saying that even though your bank is in the US, as long as the gambling site isn't, it's legal?

Most of you are probably like me, a little hesitant to give out my bank account info.

My wife belongs to a credit union, so when I bought my car I decided to do the loan through the credit union. I had to open a $5 savings account there and join under my name to do it.

I'm thinking I'll just deposit a couple hundred dollars into that account and use it, rather than my regular bank account. That way the worst that could happen is I lose what's in that account instead of my regular account.

Make sense? Maybe others could do something similar, or does someone have a better idea?

My guess is that a lot of us are willing to do this as long as we feel it's safe and legal.

It's a good way to make a few bucks and to get better at it.

Practice makes perfect. I would do it, but with my job and the expenses I have with insurance and school among other things, I don't know if I could spare the money, it's really tight at the moment. Plus I don't have a bank account at the moment, so even if I wanted to, couldn't do it.

I need my finances to get better so that I can take part.

QUestion:

The kickback you get for referring people to bodog. Is that a one-time thing that you get we we sign up and bet, or is it based on how long we stay with bodog, like for example, for every month that I am a member and player on BoDog, you get money for it?

Just wanted to know, since it's intriging and all.

one time, i had the option of getting 25% of what you all "lost", forever, so if you won i get nothing, but if you kept losing i kept getting paid, or just a one time payout reguardless of winnings, so i went that route.. once you guys sign up, you can refer people too, which is the $100 payout as well.

I'm not sure how the sites are getting around it, but if the bank knows it's a gambling site, they aren't suppose to send the money. I was able to use my Credit card at Full Tilt, and I will try it here as well and then just pay off the credit card. My guess is the company name the bank is paying is something different then BoDog poker. I really enjoyed playing at BoDog and have been looking for a reason to go back anyway.

As for your bank account idea, that is exactly what I do. I have a free checking account with my bank and I keep very little money in there. For transactions such as this, I just use it, since I don't risk losing much. Still, BoDog seems trusty worthy enough. They have handled 1 deposit for me, and two withdrawals with no problem what so ever.

One place you can check out and support is the Poker Players Alliance which is pushing to legalize. There is also a bill introduced in Congress by Barney Frank who is trying to legalize and regulate it. If you are interested, you can contact your congressman and ask them to support it.
