CINCINNATI - The Bengals have enjoyed a relatively quiet off-season when it comes to off-field player issues, but the previous legal problems of one backup defensive lineman have resulted in disciplinary action by the NFL.

Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker will be suspended for the team's Sept. 10 season-opener against Baltimore, FOXSports.com has learned.
Rucker pleaded guilty in May to one count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism stemming from a June 2006 incident with an ex-girlfriend. Rucker, who had a charge of spousal battery against him dropped as part of a plea deal, was sentenced to 36 months probation.

Rucker told FOXSports.com on Wednesday that he has appealed the suspension.

"We'll just see how it goes," Rucker said. "It's pretty much in someone else's hands right now. All I can do is continue to grow as a player. If I get it, I didn't. If I don't, thank the Lord and I'm going to play as hard as I can [against Baltimore]."

A 2006 third-round draft pick from Southern California, Rucker missed his entire rookie campaign because of a shoulder injury. Rucker is expected to contribute as part of Cincinnati's defensive line rotation this season, although he may miss Friday night's preseason finale against Indianapolis after aggravating a hamstring injury in Monday's 24-19 loss to Atlanta.

Rucker is the third Bengals player who will enter the season on the NFL's suspended list. Wide receiver Chris Henry was given an eight-game ban following four arrests in a 14-month span, while linebacker Odell Thurman remains suspended for a second consecutive season after being barred in 2006 for a series of problems related to drug and alcohol abuse.

Henry, a key member of Cincinnati's offense, is eligible for reinstatement after the first six games.
After the first six games?!?! I thought he was out for the first 8 games!

And I thought he didn't have to apply, but would automatically be allowed back...

What's going on around here?!?

This strikes me as Goodell just adding insult to injury.

"Oh by the way, this other guy Rucker, his incident has been resolved for months now but yeah I'm going to suspend him too."

I'm inclined to believe the six game thing was just a mistake by the writer/editor. It seems odd that the first news of it would come out in an article about a different player. If it's true though I imagine other sources will pick up on it later today.

that's why I'll reserve judgment on this until someone in the Bengals organization announces it. It just doesn't sound credible.

Henry is automatically reinstated after game 8. The only thing I can think of is that he is eligible to be reinstated after game six if he keeps his nose clean.

Also, didn't this incident happen a year before it was actually filed. The articles says the incident happened in June of 2006. I thought it happened in 2005, I think August. This was something that happened with a guy and his girlfriend while he was in college and now he gets suspended a game in the NFL.

And Joey Porter, who basically committed a gang assualt and theft of Levi gets charged what is chump change when you have $22MM in guaranteed money coming your way.

WTF!!!

Not that it matters......

The incident that Frostee is suspended for happened in August prior to his SENIOR YEAR at USC in August of 2005!
By all accounts the dude has been a model citizen since he was drafted into the NFL. I don't get it. I think I'm starting to join Jeb and his theories......

Commish: Yah! Hey Lance, sorry to hear about the that little incident.

LB: Sorry commish, I panicked.

Commish: Oh don't worry, I was just calling to see what color you'd like your new Lambo, we've got you covered.

LB: Uh, .. color? You're not talking about a suspension?

Commish: Noooo, that's for "other teams". But if the Bears should face the Steelers in the Bowl, I may have revisit the issue. click

Who cares what Goodell does to other teams ?!

The Bengals are a team of thugs and deserve to be treated harsher than everyone else !
This isn`t about being "fair". It`s about punishing all those Bengals for ruining the "good name" of the NFL !

Frostee is lucky not to be in prison. He was charged with rape in high school and had two more charges of sexual assault in Boulder at the University of Colorado before he transferred to USC. Now he pleads to a felony charge and just gets straight probation. if this guy wasn't a football star he would be doing time right now. Hopefully he has gotten his problemds straightened out by now. If so he is lucky that he never did any jail time at all.

Its good to know that Goodell is now going to start suspending veteren players for crimes they committed in college. I guess Matt Shaub, Marlin Jackson, Ryan Tucker, Terrell Suggs, Santonio Holmes, Richie Incognito, Jared Allen, Warren Sapp, Claude Wrotten, and Laverneus Coles will all be out for the first game of the season. Adjust your fantasy lineups accordingly.

This is great news for us considering that we wont have to deal with Terrell Suggs in week one.

FROSTEE FROZEN OUT OF OPENER

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the NFL will suspend Bengals defensive end Frostee Rucker for the team's regular-season opener on September 10.

In May 2007, Rucker pleaded guilty to one count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism arising from an incident that occurred during his time at the University of Southern California. Concerns regarding Rucker's character caused him to drop to round three of the 2006 draft.

Though Marvez writes that the incident occurred in June 2006, Rucker was charged then. The incident occurred in August 2005, months before Rucker was even drafted.

We've got no problem with Rucker being suspended for one game in light of his conduct. But how is it that Rucker gets suspended for one game based on something he did two years ago, before even entering the NFL, and Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter doesn't get suspended for admitting to punching Bengals left tackle Levi Jones in a Las Vegas casino in March 2007?

We realize that the NFL needs to apply a high degree of confidentiality to matters of this nature. But, at the same time, the lack of details could prompt Bengals fans to become irate regarding the perceived disparity in treatment.

With that said, we suspect that the NFL has a good reason for the decisions reached in both cases. Unless and until that reason is disclosed, however, there likely will be loud complaints from Cincinnati about this one.
Shit like this makes me believe that this year is a lost cause.

Goodell is doing everything possible to ensure that we wont make the playoffs and
if we do get close, one has to wonder if the referees will screw us again.

I'd also like to add that Goodell wasn't even the commissioner when this occurred, thus there was no new emphasis on behavior. He wasn't even commisioner when he was charged.

Interestingly...Goodell's wife http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane_Skinner
