oldschooler
February 24, 2009 Albert Haynesworth will be a Washington Redskin Remember back on December 23rd when I told you guys that Scott Pioli would be the GM for the Kansas City Chiefs before anyone had it? I got it from a very well-connected league source. That source is talking (actually texting) again. This time around he tells me that the Washington Redskins will break the bank to sign Albert Haynesworth. The Titans could come over the top of the Redskins deal as well, but my guess is that the Redskins will let Haynesworth get the best offer possible from the Titans and then "better deal" it. My source tells me to look for a contract that could break $100 million with an average of $15 million to $16 million per. My guy is almost never wrong and Dan Snyder gets what he wants. As a Texan fan, I would really be devastated to see Haynesworth leave the division ... only, no I wouldn't. Beat it, Haynesworth. BENGALS666
Remind me how a team like Washington that is already in cap hell will sign a guy like Haynesworth for those kind of dollars? I don't see it.. Washington is third from last in available spending money in the NFL. Haynesworth will likely be a Lion (Shwartzie), Buc or remain a Titan.. eva4ben-gal
Well they restructured Randle El and Andre Carter, they released Marcus Washington and there is talk about releasing Shawn Springs and possible Jason Taylor. Then they've got Phillip Daniels and Demetric Evans on the line whose contracts are up so theycan have money to devote to the line if they want it. They'd just have to get really creative to then add somebody to play next to Haynesworth.
oldschooler
From John Thorton's blog . . .
Albert already off the market?? February 24th, 2009 | NFL </SPAN> When news broke today of Big Albert Haynesworth having a deal in place with the Redskins, I immediately considered the source. The source was a blog in Texas.(Who reads blogs anyway, right?) After checking that, I thought either this could be Albert’s agent driving up his client’s price or the Redskins could actually have made this move. There have been reports of teams not being able to meet Albert’s contract demands, so maybe this is a ploy to get things sparked up. And then I went to one of my favorite websites Titanscentral.net to see how the Titans fans were taking the news. They are skeptical and confused about how the Redskins could pull this off. Things will get very interesting come Friday. If Albert does sign with Washington, expect tampering charges to be filed by the Titans. I heard Jeff Fisher on Sirius NFL Radio this weekend mention that Albert’s agent may be getting numbers from other teams before free agency actually starts. Stay tuned.
http://www.allproblogger.com/?p=
Vol_Bengal
If Washington does that, they're fools... You're going to pay Manning / Brady type annual money to a guy that has never played a whole season, only plays about 65% of the teams plays annually when he is healthy, and has a history of being a contract year stud... no way. And, I'm a Tennessee fan!
oldschooler
Agent: No deal between Haynesworth, Redskins Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Albert Haynesworth, Washington Redskins After receiving more than 30 telephone calls and e-mails Tuesday from members of the Washington media regarding a potential deal between his client and the Redskins, Albert Haynesworth’s agent, Chad Speck, felt the need to publicly address the situation. “Albert is not allowed to have a deal with another team, and he doesn’t have a deal with another team,” Speck e-mailed Tuesday night. “We continue to keep the lines of communication open with Tennessee. The rumors suggesting that a deal is in place between Albert and the Washington Redskins are completely false.” What is true is that the Redskins are one of a handful of teams that will have interest in Haynesworth. But for whoever signs him, it isn’t going to cheap. Haynesworth widely is expected to become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, with a deal that will defy today’s economic hardships and send tremors around the league. The deal could wind up including a signing bonus in the vicinity of $40 million dollars. Washington will have interest. But so will Detroit, Tampa Bay, Tennessee and others. And the big question as free agency opens Friday will be what is Haynes-worth?
http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/24/agent-no-d...worth-redskins/

Go Skins
Done deal. http://www.wtopnews.com/?nid=293&sid=1612057 WASHINGTON - The NFL free agent market is open and so is the Redskins wallet with the team agreeing to terms with Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. The deal with Haynesworth is reportedly worth $100 million over seven years with $41 million of the contract guaranteed. Haynesworth has played with the Titans since 2002 and last season had a career high 8.5 sacks. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles. Earlier Friday, the Redskins resigned cornerback DeAngelo Hall to a six-year, $54 million contact. Hall's signing occurred just five minutes before he was set to become a free agent and would have been able to negotiate with any team.

The Tennessean reports that the Titans recently submitted evidence to the NFL of tampering, claiming the Redskins contacted Haynesworth before he became a free agent on Feb. 27: The Titans did not file a formal grievance with the NFL. Instead, they turned in newspaper articles and audio from a Washington, D.C.-area radio station in which a Redskins official made what the Titans felt were incriminating comments. The Tennessean notes that players and agents are not subject to punishment if found guilty of any involvement in tampering. However, teams found guilty of tampering have been forced to relinquish draft picks.
