Frustration mounts for Carp

CINCINNATI -- A poorly conditioned mound bothered Chris Carpenter in the first inning. Lingering smoke from fireworks celebrating Ramon Hernandez' home run irritated him in the third.

Cuban Missle Crisis..next stop Louisville
Aroldis Chapman was dominant in Milwaukee on April 27.
He pitched 1.2 innings, throwing 17 of his 19 pitches for strikes, and picked up the win in a 7-6 (10 inning) win that afternoon.
Since that day he's made four appearances.
April 30: K, BB, WP, BB, BB, 2B, K, K
May 5: BB, BB, 1B
May 10: BB, HBP, BB, BB
May 15: BB, BB, FO, BB, BB
Last four appearances: 19 batters faced/15 got on base.
He has retired 1 of last 12 batters faced.....1 H, 9 BB, 1 HBP, 1 fly out
Last four appearances: 92 pitches with only 33 for strikes.
Last four appearnces: 1.1 inning, 2 H, 12 BB, 3 K, 10 ER, WP, HBP
Any still think he should work out his "issues" on the ML level?
Clearly, if you can't trust a pitcher with a 9-2 lead in the 9th then his next appearance should be Louisville.

Its too bad it took homer a little bit in the first to find the strike zone cause he is dominating right now, but will probably only make it through 6 or 7 max cause of the 32 pitches in the first.

He had 32 in the first then 33 in the 2nd-4th. Only given up one hit so far.

Keep it up Homer!

WOW! I turned on the TV to see that we were getting blanked by Zambrano, then I turned off the TV to study after Cairo got out, figuring Zambrano was going to blank us all 9 and turn it on to this.

hell of a throw by stubbs.
3 very good defensive plays there, one by stubbs one by votto and one by renteria.

Thats the difference between going to the ninth up 3 and going to the ninth up 1 or tied. The cards probably would have given up at least 2 runs that inning had they been in the same situation. Big difference between the teams.

Some stats...

19-10 against NL central competition
10-3 so far on our 16 straight NL central games
Reds have won 4 in a row, 7 of 8, 10 of 12
Reds are 10-4 in may.

For those of you that remember, this start is eerily reminiscent of last years start.

Officially off the volquez bandwagon. Please just go away for a little bit. Everyone else is pitching great besides you.

Kinda glad he didn't sign that big contract now...

He has great stuff. It's just that one inning where it gets away from him that causes his problem. It's crazy.

Dudes been cruising since the first. Bad pitch to a big time hitter.
