texbengal
I got a list of guys, don't forget the Bengals have the most cap space of any team in the NFL so money shouldn't be a hinderence. Also this team has been top's in the league on defenes for the past 3 years, so it's not like they are coming into a bad situation, guys should want to come here and play if the money is right. We have great coaching on defense, Zim is respected by players and coaches as one of the best DC's in the game. Here's my list of guys who can come here and be better than Rey: Curtis Lofton Dan Connor David Hawthorne Stephen Tulloch D'Qwell Jackson Barrett Rudd(if the groin is ready) All of these guys would be an upgrade and could potentially be had.
I like Jackson and Tulloch, but am more lukewarm on the others. Jackson had a really nice year, but he's battled injuries a lot. Lofton is a 2-down LB (a thumper vs. the run, though), and Ruud is small and not sure how well he'd hold up over a season.
Bengals1181
rather than bring in another guy, I think Thomas Howard strikes me as a guy who could handle MLB and its responsibilities. Seems like a bright kid and can handle the calls. Already knows the system, and has the size. Only drawback would be his lack of experience at the position. Given Rey's history with alcohol abuse, which is the reason why slipped in the draft, I would say this probably happened.
Concern about Ruud when he was in Tampa was that he wasn't physical enough at the point of attack, and he'd get washed out on run plays. And then he'd make tackles downfield... a lot of them, but that's not necessarily a badge of honor. Bucs didn't re-sign him, which spoke volumes to me, because he wouldn't have cost that much. Tulloch is definitely more stout, and he's a pretty good pass defender, surprisingly.

Seems to me that for someone with both anger management and alcohol issues, you're asking for trouble. Plus, you're putting your career in jeopardy... game checks, and maybe more. As Phat says, regardless of what happens here with this incident, he has a problem that has to be dealt with. Not sure what kind of support system he has, but it doesn't look like it worked this time.
