[background=white]The ONLY positive things a Dolphins fan can take out of the first two exhibition games are....
Miami's special teams unit looks pretty solid....The quarterbacks haven't thrown the ball to many defenders (despite the two interceptions, one of which was a tipped ball and the other a desperation throw in the end zone)....a couple of acorns named Derrick Shelby, Josh Samuda, Jorvorskie Lane, Chris Hogan, Marcus Thigpen look like keepers....and nobody has seriously gotten hurt (I'm still a little concerned about Karlos Dansby's knee and Mr. Kevin Burnett's back). Outside of those positives I'd struggle to point out ANYTHING good from the previous two games, and now the Dolphins face a superior Falcons team on Friday. [/background]

Here's your Steelers' 'Call Me Maybe' video

August, 21, 2012

By Jamison Hensley | ESPN.com

When I think of the Steelers, the names that come to mind are: Jack Lambert, Joe Greene and Mel Blount. I definitely don't think Carly Rae Jepsen.

Well, the Steelers are the latest group to tackle a lip-sync video of the Canadian pop singer's hit song "Call Me Maybe." It features Ike Taylor, Shaun Suisham and even James Harrison (not joking). Grab your terrible towel then click here to watch the video.

The Steelers are certainly not the first to try their hand at this song, but they are perhaps the first professional sports team to do this. There are videos out there from the United States Olympic swimming team to the Harvard baseball team to actor James Franco. Even the daughter of a close friend of mine has one up on Facebook. It's become the summer song that won't die.

The Steelers shot the video at training camp. See what you missed, Mike Wallace?

There are some parts that made me chuckle, but I'm still not sure what to make of the Steelers version. All I do know is Chuck Noll would not approve.

Joe Haden removed from practice after “heated words” with coach

Posted by Mike Florio on August 22, 2012, 11:31 AM EDT
AP
Bad news tends to come in clusters for the Browns.
Fresh from the revelation by Warren Sapp that former Browns coach Bill Belichick wanted to draft Sapp in 1995 — and Sapp’s proclamation that the team never would have left Cleveland if that had happened — cornerback Joe Haden has been removed from practice after exchanging “heated words” with coach Pat Shurmur.
Per Tony Grossi of ESPNCleveland.com, Haden was pulled from the field roughly 30 minutes into practice, because it was believed he was being “too rough” with wideout Travis Benjamin. Grossi reports that Haden had been warned about pulling jerseys, and that he eventually dragged Benjamin to the ground in a red zone drill.
Then came the exchange with Shurmur, and off went Haden to the showers.
After practice, Shurmur refused to discuss the situation.
“I’m not gonna talk about it,” Shurmur said. “That’s between me and the player. I have a great deal of respect for Joe. If you want details, you’re going to have to find it on Twitter. My only apology is that I used bad language and the fans were here to see it.”
Shurmur, who according to Grossi was “testy” on the topic, spoke generally about the issue of being careful but effective in practice.
“I think it’s important that we practice smart,” Shurmur said. “You have to be able to practice at game speed [without tackling]. I want all of our guys to make it to the horse race. Everything I do, all my thoughts, revolve around our players and our team. I told the guys that.”
Haden reportedly is facing a four-game suspension for violation of the league’s policy regarding steroids and related substances, for taking Adderall. It’s not known when the internal appeal process will be finalized.

I don't. What happened?

And I was always taught how to remember what "imminent" meant... it kinda' sounds like "in a minute".

He had a sit down with the coach and explained that he loves the game and was committed to giving the Dolphins 100% but has found out that since he signed his body just isn't holding up and he can't play like he remembers he once could. He didn't want to retire but said if his body isn't cooperating in a few days he'll have no other option.

Mendenhall: No timetable yet on return

It was a major surprise when the Steelers activated running back Rashard Mendenhall off the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list last week, just seven months removed from knee surgery.

The next step -- when he carries the ball for the first time in a game -- remains uncertain. There's a good chance that Mendenhall will miss the first month of the season.

"To be real, I don’t know when I’ll be ready to play,” Mendenhall told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I’m just working with the training staff and doing what I can to get on the field.”

One of the reasons why the Steelers removed Mendenhall off the PUP was to get him acclimated to Todd Haley's offense. Players on PUP can't participate in drills. So, the Steelers are using a spot on the 53-man roster on someone who likely won't play for a while in order for him to be up to speed when he is ready to play in game.

Mendenhall's timetable could be subject to how much the Steelers need him. If Isaac Redman proves he can be the primary back in the first quarter of the season, Pittsburgh might be more inclined to ease Mendenhall back. There's also no guarantee that Mendenhall, the team's leading rusher for the past three seasons, will get back his starting job. But, if Redman is struggling or is being bothered by his hip injury, the Steelers might need Mendenhall to carry a bigger workload when he comes back.

There's no question that the Steelers will get a motivated Mendenhall. He is in the final year of his rookie contract, which means this season will go a long way in determining his value next offseason.
