turningpoint Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 So what do we need to draft now? Honestly, the way we've been playing i see only a few weaknesses. Would love to find an AllPro RB and Safety. Maybe a better #2 WR, but Sanu looks like he's coming on big time, but he looks like more of a slot WR. I honestly don't think we should pursue anyone in FA, just resign our guys and keep building through the draft. I figure we'll pick around 20th or so at best, and around 34th from the raiders and then 56th with our 2nd rounder. That's 3 more amazing talents we can add. Right now I see our 4 biggest needs as follows. 1. Safety 2. RB 3. LB 4. CB Am I wrong? O line really looks decent, and I don't think it really need to be improved, obviously this assumes Andre Smith is coming back, along with Mauluga.
Bengals1181 Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 while I'd still like to grab one early, the safeties have played quite well as of late. As for #1 priority, I still think it starts and stops with linebacker.

I still have flashbacks of him trying to tackle Arian Foster in that WildCard game. There's a couple Safeties available around where we pick, seems like all the top LB's are going to go in the top 7, Jarvis Jones and Monte Teo. Kenny Vaccaro, seems to have his name written all over for us. I'd love us to draft Robert Woods with the Raiders pick.

Jamie_B Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 our FAs this offseason are going to be MJ, Gathers, Lawson, and Malaluga (and Nuge) I agree with 1181 LB is the top priority, however DE is a close 2nd and can see depending on value us taking a DE before a LB in the 1st. I think our 1st 3 picks need to be LB, DE, and RB in no order. Edit: Also agree that S needs to be looked at.

But I'm not convinced they would draft a DE in 1 even if they lose MJ. There are a lot of good DEs that are second round guys, and would they use a first round pick on a guy that will play in a rotation? As for our need at LB, I really think it depends on 2 things. 1. The ability to re-sign Maualuga 2. The health of Thomas Howard If both look good, I would not be surprised if they do not draft a LB at all. If either or both do not go well I could easily see them draftin 1, or maybe even 2 fairly early. I see SS and RB as legit needs. I would also like to add a CB, but only a top tier guy with elite speed.
scharm Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 I agree major FA money needs to be on our own and I think success in that area will be the biggest factor for our team next year. As for upgrades. I think RB and Ball Hawks are the biggest areas. So CB, S, RB, LB. OL depth is never a bad thing.

If they lose both Gathers and MJ, then it's no longer a rotation, hell losing one of them makes it no longer a rotation. They just drafted Dre and Resigned Hall, CB isnt a need. Also with Rey and Votaze and Howard, your going to move Taz over to Sam? Rey and Taz are both natural MLBs, I dont think Rey stays imo, but you never know.

Dunlap has 6.5 sacks in his last 21 games going against right tackles. Dunlap has more raw talent, but he's only a better player when he wants to be.
Oldcat Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Assuming for the moment we keep everyone we want to - Ray M, Geathers and MJ, Andre Smith... RB - could use a speed guy to complement BJGE and Peerman. LB - don't really have anyone solid at WLB, unless Howard returns at a high level. Probably could use a couple picks/FAs. S - don't have any young developing talent in reserve, it seems. DE - could use a young guy to work in like Thompson/Still. WR - midround guy if anyone. Could perhaps use a KR/PR specialist to push Tate/Jones.
coup000 Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Am I the only one worried about losing Andre?

RayM's early season issues might have been more injury driven than we thought at the time. In the coach's spot, I'd be leery of dropping one of the 2 starter quality guys we have standing just because both are 'natural MLBs' . They played Ray out of that spot for a while without a qualm. Since Taze is playing at a high level where he is, why sweat the lables?
