mongo
So the lady and I bought a new TV, and it's got all the 3D bells and whistles... Now what? iTunes doesn't have 3D movies. Time Warner's 3D stuff sounds lame. Roadrunner apparently doesn't support Netflix's 'Super HD' selection of 3D content. I don't particularly care for 3D movies, but my nephew sure will want to see one on his uncle's awesome new TV. Are Blu Ray's the only real option at this point? Man, I really don't want to jump back into the physical media game again.
Jamie_B
Seemds to me that 3D is still very premature, I was reading about all the new xbox ps4 stuff and they seemed to think that Ultra HD will get more wide spred acceptance and thus lower prices before 3D becomes mainstream. |Bunghole|
3D is AWESOME when done correctly. Avatar in 3D was amazing. I've seen it less overt than that in many films where it's used to add depth to things like heights but has no "in your face/in your lap" scenes. It's been a mixed bag but I typically like it and my sons do too.
-GoBengals-
short answer, yes, physical media is your only real option if your provider doesnt offer anything.. i think dtv has stuff, but i dont have a 3d tv..
mongo
Well I went with Blu Rays of Tintin, Tron Legacy, and Jurassic Park for when the little ones come around. I'd have gotten Avatar, but it turns out I didn't care about it. Saw it in the theaters, and enjoyed it. Bought it on iTunes the day it came out, and haven't bothered to watch it again... Aside from always liking movies in spite of Sigourney Weaver (she just bugs me... except for Galaxy Quest, for some reason), it seemed all frosting and no cake. I don't ever want to see Avatar again unless it's in a theater in 3D. The story is pretty much every rehashed tale ever told, the acting is meh...it's just such awesome eye candy on the big screen in 3D.
CincyInDC
I saw Avatar in 3d in the theater then later on an 8-inch screen on a plane. It was a steaming pile without 3d.

sois
I saw Avatar when I was 12 and it was called pocohontas. Avatar is pretty much the story of Ernest goes to Camp, when Lyle Alzedo and the mining company wants to come take the redskins land but Ernest and the kids help fight them off. Yes or no? |Bunghole|
The story is secondary to the lavish visual specatacle of seeing that movie on the big screen, in 3D. Without 3D, it's not worth watching.

|Bunghole|
For the dumbasses that are giving me negative rep (and I don't really care)...what's your argument against what I said? We all agree Avatar is a shitty movie plot and story-wise. Where we seem to be disagreeing is whether or not Avatar was a visually epic movie in theaters on the big screen. Almost everyone that has seen it says it is, like me. Have you seen it in that format? Or is this some kind of anti-3D campaign just because you don't like it (or think it's "gay" or whatever)? Avatar was a good movie in spite of being a bad movie just due to visual awesomeness. I challenge anyone that's actually seen it in theaters and in 3D to argue otherwise. fluhartz
I really never thought 3D would take off.. It's ok at the movies, but no big deal at home..IMO The televisions dropped around 50% in price after like 6 months... Also wearing the glasses sucks

Tigris
Avatar in 3D at the theatre was amazing. All those glowing plants and vibrant colors when they were mating via pony tail.
sois
i upvoted you but i can't really tell the difference of 3d so i don't really know why people like it, it's always some gay effect like a ball bouncing towards you that doesn't add to the story or anything

mongo
Just saw this article on CNN.http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/13/tech/gaming-gadgets/3d-tv-dead/index.html?c=tech I've never thought 3D should be a staple in the living, but I see it's place as an occasional treat. It's too distracting for all the time use. It's also a wasted effect in most situations. I don't think there's a place for 3D networks, but I think it's good to have the option to break out the glasses and a bag of popcorn for a special event. I want to see the tech that crops up surrounding 4k. As much as I subscribe to the more is better philosophy, 1080 can hit my limits on just how clearly I want to see someone's skin. I wonder what breakthroughs will take place in real time post production. Will you be able to 'Photoshop' a news anchor's imperfections on live TV? 1080 already allows you to see every blemish, and the cover-up makeup sitting on top of it. Bigger resolution also makes sense for bigger TV's, but I'm also close to maxed on ratio of screen size to room dimensions as is...
