Verrrrry interesting news on the uniform front...

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/06/24/nfl-will-allow-teams-to-use-alternate-color-helmets-again-starting-in-2022/

Looks like historically correct throwbacks will likely be restored in 2022 (think Bucco Bruce, TB or Pat Patriot, NE, Orange Crush D, DEN). Funny considering the Bengals could have done throwbacks this whole time with a orange shell regardless of stripes or "BENGALS" on the helmet. I wonder if this opens the door for a complete white tiger look, helmets and all:

Sounds like only one alternate helmet.

The revised policy allows teams to utilize a second (alternate color) approved helmet to pair with their Alternate, Classic and/or Color Rush uniforms. All uses of alternate helmets must follow the set forth parameters:

  • Clubs must obtain an entire new set of alternate color helmets for all players
  • Alternate color helmets must be the same make, model and size as the applicable player's primary helmet
  • Alternate color helmets must be made available to all players at the start of training camp and should be fit at the same time as the primary helmet
  • Alternate color helmets must be worn in practice at a minimum during the week leading up to the game in which they will be used

The White Bengal tiger has long been a draw for the Cincy Zoo and somewhat tied to the city.  The all black on white Color Rush uniform would seem to be a natural (besides, they¹ look sharp as fuck).

The stripes are created by painting the helmets, so throwbacks wouldn't have been possible before this policy change. I do wish they'd go with the 1960s - 70s throwbacks at least once a year. Looking forward to seeing Tampa Bay's throwbacks returning.

So far..

Game one - Black jersey looks pretty great. Pants with weird orange stripes are flat fuckin stupid. Why they thought that would match any of the other changes they made is beyond me.

Game two - White jersey looks good. Black pants looks good. BUT they look ridiculous together.
