Sounds like if we don't get a RT he could push to be a starter. I dont necessarily hold out hope that Carmen can lock down the RT spot but lets say he actually looks really solid at OTA's - this could shift the thinking for the draft. Weird thought - lets say Carmen looks good (or at least better) AND we kept Jonah and we put Collins on IR to start the year but bring him back (assumming he looks reasonable) - that could cover the tackle spot depth. Not saying that is the best use of cap but if you cant trade Jonah, it would not be a bad solution for this year.
sparky151
If Carman looks good in OTAs, then great. It improves our depth at backup RT and LT. If he has to start at RT, we'll feel better about it. But it's no excuse to pass on a top RT if we have the chance to get one. We shouldn't count on Collins for much this year. He may not even be able to take the field early in the season and most ACL injuries require 18 months to get back to full speed (such as it is in his case). So we need coverage. Jonah could be the plan but we can certainly do better, even with a rookie. A rookie would also be around longer than Jonah and cost much less. It's possible the team keeps Jonah unless someone coughs up a higher pick than expected. But that would be foolish. Jonah has value to at least some teams and we should take a 7th rounder or conditional 2024 pick if that clears 12 mil off our cap. That would be most of the signing bonus for Wilson or Higgins on their extensions. We could also eat some of Jonah's salary if it improves our trade compensation. Taylor's comments make it sound like the team is definitely planning to trade Jonah,

Taylor's comments make it sound like the team is definitely planning to trade Jonah, I'd think even an average-ish LT is worth at least a 3rd but that probably wouldn't happen before the draft. Right now everyone thinks they're going to draft future HoF'ers across the board that will change the game forever etc etc.. It's hype season. They won't, and they aren't, but it will be a few weeks until the GMs & coaches around the league come back down to Earth and remember that rookies are indeed still rookies. That's when they'll start looking for a guy who is ready to play and at least halfassedly hold down the spot, if only for a year. Best case is someone whiffs on OT in the first round, panics, and comes to us hat in hand.
sparky151
Yeah, one of the problems with trading Jonah is that he only wants to play on the left side. There are a number of teams which feel like they're ok at LT but need a RT. Teams like the Texans, Bears, Raiders, Titans, and 49ers. The Colts might be a trade partner or the Buccaneers. Teams might look for Donovan Smith who could be cheaper than Jonah and not cost a pick.

PatternMaster
Keep in mind Jeff Okudah, a #3 overall pick in the 2020 draft was just traded for a 5th-round pick, I wouldn't expect anything more than that for an oft-injured and poorly-performing LT. No team is going to give up significant draft capital for Jonah, he's going to have to get over his hurt feelings and sense of entitlement and compete at RT or sit out and not get paid. Not sure why Jonah thinks he's entitled to be the entrenched starter at LT, he was awful last year before the injures

membengal
Well, given that it is one day of sprints in voluntary OTAs, maybe okay to allow him a few days to get to know Volson? Do we always have to shit on Volson in here? 1

But the Bengals will likely give him permission to negotiate a long term deal as part of a trade. There were certainly worse players starting at LT around the league last season. Several teams may want to fix their blindside protection issue ahead of the draft for the cost of a mid-round pick.

I would keep him and IF the RT position resolves itself without him, we could trade him during the year to a payoff team that has had some injuries. Maybe Baltimore would take him? He'd get Lamar crippled and solve their problem.
