After reading through these comments, it's almost as though the expectation is that the execution just needs to get better and the wins will come...the problem with this that I see is with the gameplans in place, the execution has to literally be perfect. That isn't going to happen

It's bothersome, execution may be a part of it, but when your QB can't move in the pocket or rollout, and you refuse to admit that might be part of the issue, that is a problem.

To your point...progress?? Maybe??

God I hope so, it's the root of the majority of the problems on O. There is not a O-line in the league that protects the QB so much that he can be a statue. You need to be able to at least shift, or step up with some quickness.

All he knows about me is what I sold him.

If browning sucks so bad, why have him on the roster? Get another OL or punter or something in that case

becuase there arent good backup QB's, and the best of the shit bunch dont want to be in a spot behind joe burrow, which is why allen left.

Can’t have it both ways. Can’t say you’re comfortable with either Browning or Simien as the backup but when it’s time to play the backup, there’s hesitation because the drop off is too significant from Burrow. Should have gotten a competent backup you could toss in when your starting QB is on one leg. Again, that’s on the coaches.

of course you fucking can.

there arent 32 good QBs in the nfl. but there are some great backup QBs out there?

and these imaginary great backup QB's are dying to sign up and sit with no chance to play aside from injury behind a great QB, when they could go sit behind a shit QB or a young one about to fail for the 2nd or 3rd year and maybe get a shot?

in what world cant both things be true? its not "both ways" its THE way... there isnt a single position in the nfl that has 32 good starters in it. there bad kickers, punters, corners, every linemen, every defensive player, etc.

but someonehow, because some dudes on the internet say the phrase "just go get a better one, grab a vet" its ar eal thing and can happen?!?!?!??!

explain it..

first twll me:

1. why there is this magical pocket of backup QB's, really good cheap linemen, etc we can just go sign everytime someone says we should do it? why arent they on rosters?

2. tell me why on EARTH, any qb worth a damn, isnt looking for the best possible place to PLAY vs sitting behind a known locked in long term starter (not to mention in a crap city like cincinnati, if they dont want to play, they are picking a bettter place to live)

3. if Mccarron was with us the entire offseason, was 100% up on the playbook, had 500-1000 reps with the guys during camp and drills, he could potentially be a better option to have started some of these games, but thats no where near the case, possibly after the bye he will have been able to get close to that point, but tell me how throwing a guy who essentially has NEVER played nfl football, i dont really count trash time reps, into a stressful situation of MUST WIN, would be much of a plan for success, as the offense would STILL have to change, due to some plays just being possible by joe burrow being incredible.  so to circle back, we grabbed trevor hoping he would be the vet backup we needed, he knew the offense learned it and ran it in camp and preseason, sadly he fucking sucked. and sadly thats the point of it being too late, the learning has ended at the end of preseason, its 100% prep time based on the offensive knowledge. so bringing in ANYONE after preseason is just them in the same spot as AJ is now, i think it was LAP who did a breakdown of it, said install is in mini camp and early camp, by the time preseason games come around the offense is in place but still being fine tuned and can be learned some then, once preseason is over everyone knows the offense like the back of their hand and every second is spent gameplanning and installing that weeks gameplan and the reps are run for those plays, that everyone already knows, so for a QB to come in and learning all of the terminology, plays, variations, blitx alterations, etc, is really hard because no one is available to really sit and teach, theyll obviously make some extra time, but everyone else learned it over 6-7 weeks, there is no chance a guy can come in and learn it and play in a couple weeks essentially getting after school tutoring to learn it all.

4. what BOTH ways? explain your claim here. clearly there arent a gang of good backups in existance let alone on the market, and clearly playing a never palyed before backup isnt usually a recipe for success, right? so whats the BOTH ways? because both of those are true.

Orlando Brown Jr. appears on first Bengals injury report of the week

The first injury report of the week as the team preps to take on the Arizona Cardinals is something of a mixed bag for the Cincinnati Bengals.

On one hand, quarterback Joe Burrow went full in practice and looked good and mobile while doing so. So much so, he wasn’t technically even listed on the injury report.

On the other, Orlando Brown Jr. surfaced on the report and star wideout Tee Higgins and Cam Taylor-Britt were notables for other reasons:

The Bengals are already short at wide receiver with rookie Charlie Jones on injured reserve, which would see to explain the recent practice squad signing. If Taylor-Britt can’t go against the Cardinals, rookie DJ Turner would get many of the snaps.

No word on how serious the problem is for Brown or if this was more of a veteran’s rest day.

BEWARE: Always-wrong 'Madden' predicts Bengals win vs. Cardinals in Week 5

David Wysong, Cincinnati Enquirer

The 1-3 Cincinnati Bengals have had a disappointing start to the season, to say the least. So like fans everywhere, "Madden" can't quite figure them out.

For the heck of it, we started simulating upcoming Bengals games on "Madden 24" during Week 3 this season, and the video game hasn't been too accurate so far. While it has correctly predicted the outcomes of a couple other non-Bengals games we have simulated, it's 0-2 on accurately guessing Bengals scores. (Readers have passionately let us know about the simulations' track record in our comments section.)

But because we like to have fun, we decided to keep these going. And if you're superstitious (or at least a little stitious), you won't be happy with the outcome of this week's "Madden 24" simulation: The "Madden" gods think the Bengals will beat the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, which likely means they'll lose.

You know, or not.

So what happened in the game?

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5.

Before pressing A to start the simulation, we set the quarters to seven minutes each (to avoid unrealistic video game scores) and made sure the teams played a 4 p.m. game at State Farm Stadium. Cardinals QB Kyler Murray didn't play since the real-life version of him is injured, and we kept Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins in the lineup (he hasn't ruled out playing this week, despite injuring his ribs against the Tennessee Titans).

Then we enjoyed the show.

First quarter

Joe Burrow got off to a hot start and didn't look back. He found his buddy Ja'Marr Chase (who is always f---ing open) in the end zone from 25 yards out to give the Bengals a 7-0 first-quarter lead.

Second quarter

The Cardinals, led by backup quarterback Joshua Dobbs, got on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Running back James Conner ran it in from 3 yards out with 2:08 left until halftime.

Cincinnati reclaimed the lead right before the end of the quarter, though, as Evan McPherson sank a 40-yard field goal with six seconds left to make it 10-7.

Third quarter

The Bengals built on their lead in the second half. Burrow found Higgins for a 7-yard TD pass about halfway through the period, and Cincinnati's defense stayed strong the rest of the way to help the team clinch a 17-7 victory.

A screenshot of Joe Burrow during a simulation of a Bengals vs. Cardinals game on “Madden 24.”

Bengals-Cardinals 'Madden 24' stats

Burrow had an efficient day, completing 86% of his passes (he only had three incompletions) for 205 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Dobbs, on the other hand, went 17-of-25 through the air for 127 yards, no touchdowns and no picks.

Joe Mixon registered 58 rushing yards on 12 carries, while Chase had six catches for 82 yards and a TD.
