RIP Pete Rose

Still a little in shock today that Pete passed away.

It's good to know he's actually still part of 1 current Reds' streak. They're 9-0 in their last 9 World Series games.

The last time the Reds lost a WS game, Carlton Fisk was hopping up & down along the 1st base line in a game Pete said was one of the best he'd ever played in. Cincinnati then won Game 7, swept the Yankees the following year, and then swept the mighty A's in 1990.

Pete was so confident they'd bounce back from that Game 6 loss, and he was right. And Cincinnati hasn't lost in the Fall Classic since.

You know a game is iconic when a book is written about it.

i know years back he was a bit of a drinker, he was also in his 80's, so whose to say. but sad no matter what.

I seem to recall him once saying that he had never drank, and multiple articles published yesterday said that, as well. Since I posted that last night, they've since said that his cause of death was "hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease with a significant condition of diabetes mellitus". If I said that's exactly what I was thinking, I'd be lying.

I wonder if he was taking medication for it?  I am thinking no would be my guess.  When Johnny said he was in a wheelchair and not looking good, then i guess this was a sign but, I saw his last interview on YT that was last month and he looked good and in good shape to me. He sounded good too.  With Diabetes, if you or your doctor does not look for it, and if you do not change your life style ways and take medication, then it will get you eventually, unfortunately. Maybe he stopped seeing a doctor. Damn shame as I wanted him to get in the HOF so I could be there to see it.

This was taken at the Nashville memorabilia show this past Sunday, the day before Pete died.

Davey, George, Tony & Ken with Pete. Having grown a fan of the Big Red Machine, these guys just feel like family.

Who was the big guy standing on the left of Griffey ?

He's out of the pic here.

The pic is credited to David Glaskin, who ran the autograph show, so I assumed it was him. He may have cropped himself out of the photo.

I think he drank.

How much who knows but didn't seem to affect his abilities.

I had always heard he did not drink.  Did hear he used amphetamines during games, which is way more common that people know.
