Comcast has a cap on home internet?

So i signed up for Comcast and got the 22MBdown/7MBup home service, coming from the cinbell fiberline that was 30 up and down i wanted to get the same or similar speeds, and in my area its either 22 or 50mb down. and the 50 is $99 month.

ANYWAY...

i log into my account... and there is a CAP on how much internet i can use... i was borderline shocked..

turns out 250GB is the monthly limit.. in 16 days in may i used 96GB... and so far this month, as of the 14th ending, i have used 119GB...

so come months end i will actually have to keep an eye on my data usage...

the wifes streams tv shows and stuff, music, videos, etc... i download music, and do a bunch of uploading, and download tv SERIES that we missed or are catching up on.. some of them are 10-30GB..and my 4 yr old streams netflix cartoons and stuff.. plus online video game play,... etc...

i think at 300-350 GB id be SET and never have to watch it..

but 250 seems attainable...sadly... anyone else ever seen this?

and am i the only psychopath using 250GB of internet a month?

Comcast sucks balls. It's just that simple.

I had Verizons FIOS at one time and that worked pretty well. I have Verizon now, not the fastest of speeds, but it works out pretty well with no usage limit. I pay $30 a month. Verizon gave me a wireless router.

What kind of shit is that? Putting a limit on your usage? You pay for the fucking thing. How do you check to see how much you use each month?

Out here in the Boonies where I am now, I have a 75 gig limit. But as slow as the DSL is, I don't think I can even download 75 gigs worth of data in a month ...
thats just plain silly.. and i think you should try to hit the mark as often as possible...

this is truth. i knew this when i signed up.. but my option was qwest or comcast... and whileqwest offers cheaper with same download, better download actually.. the upload is like 756k (WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!) no matter what download speed you get..

and since folks from around the country/world want my games during the season... im sure as fuck not uploading a 2GB video at 756k...

i do it for the people....

You're a good man Go.

I think I remember reading that these limits were going to be tested in a few regions across the country. Guess you picked the wrong region to move to.

while its lame... i download the silliest things.. like all 7 seasons of "The Shield" in HD... seems like a good use of 34GB monthly badnwidth...

Holy Christ it sounds like the net is expensive over there. Look, I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about but my contract is 120mb high speed cable and it only costs me less than 50 bucks a month. Granted you're only going to get the speeds the pages are putting out but still.

Why does the US lag so far behind in internet speed? I wonder if it has to do with the size of the USA and the amount of people that live in rural areas, necessitating longer tap runs from each node, thereby degrading the signal strength.

It lags because of cheap-ass ISP's trying their damnedest to milk as much use out of old, decrepit equipment and networks instead of building new ones or upgrading and raping their users in the process.

The size factor has *some* legitimacy in remote rural areas, but there is no fucking reason I shouldn't be getting 120MB speeds in a major metropolitan area like LA, NY, etc., and not have to pay $200 per month to get it.

For us supposedly being the most powerful nation on earth, our physical and technological infrastructure is deplorable and a sham...

I was afraid of that. Speaking of Comcast, my service has been intermittent at best for half a month now, ever since we had a major outage in our area due to a train derailing and striking one of Comcast's fiber-optic stations. I've made several phone calls, had two technicians visit, still the same. The tap on my street has a weak signal, and the signal further degrades from there to my house due to a suspected compromised cable run. So, they KNOW what the problem is, and I'm still waiting for them to send out a maintenance crew to amplify the signal at the tap and to run me a new buried line. It fucking sucks.

most folks dont have a need for it here... or atleast, cant justify the speed/cost... when i talked about my fiberoptic 30/30 line in ohio people were like "what do you even do with that, play video games? i dont need that, mines like 6mb and its fine"

i like downloading shit as fast as possible.

most people here dont download that much stuff... they are too busy getting 15 viruses trying to bootleg the latest justin timberlake single...

i would LOVE a 120mb line...

stupid US...

I remember those days from Australia. It was crazy there.. if you went past your d/l limit, they would charge you up to $1/MB when you went over. Can you imagine some of the bills that folks were getting when they first discovered this? Nuts.

Option 2 was to go with a plan where once you went past your monthly limit, they would throttle back your bandwidth for the rest of the month to 56k. Which also sucks considering you were paying big $$$ for the limited high-speed bandwidth you could use.

Since I was always downloading games from TFT or streaming over slingbox, I went with option 3. Which was either a 56k or 100k line (don't remember which, tbh) with no cap on how much you would d/l in a month. And even this cost $85 a month if you can imagine. <_<

Needless to say, I'm enjoying having 100MB service with no caps now. :D

Japan's super fast network infrastructure probably has a lot to do with the fact that the country is only about as big as a good sized U.S. state....

...giant mecha robot plans probably take forever to DL too....
