Marvin just said all injured players are better than they were yesterday, but wont divulge specific player info until wednesday.

You could tell he was smiling and giggly (nothing new there lol) but he made it sound like everything is fine.
He also said the Bengals won't be bringing in another QB.
The Bengals were lined up in a shotgun formation with three wide receivers wide. A.J. Jermaine Gresham was in the three-point stance on the right side of the line. In the backfield, to the right of Dalton was Brian Leonard.
The Browns were lined up with Jayme Mitchell, Phillip Taylor, Ahtyba Rudin and Jabaal Sheard on the defensive line from left to right. The linebackers and safeties were showing blitz. D'Qwell Jackson was lined up just behind Taylor and Scott Fujita was lined up behind Rubin. T.J. Ward was lined up just outside Mitchell.
The ball was snapped to Dalton and the Browns brought the heat. Jackson came in right between the two tackles, where center Kyle Cook picked him up, leaving rookie guard Clint Boling to deal with Taylor by himself. Fujita came on a delayed blitz but the play was over by the time he got the line.

Shipley and Simpson crossed on the left side, Simpson going inside and Shipley fading towards the left sideline. Both were covered well. Gresham chipped the defensive end and then ran straight for the right sideline, where Ward followed. Leonard stayed in the backfield to help block.

Green ran a quick slant and beat Haden, getting the inside position almost immediately out of his cut. Green saw this and threw a pass but was forced to hurry because by the time he saw Green because Taylor was bursting through the offensive line between Cook and Boling and coming straight for him. Leonard was on the outside of Boling and was in no position to help. The pass was floated high and Green jumped and barely got the tips of his fingers on the ball and the pass fell incomplete.
As soon as Dalton released the ball he was hit. His throwing hand was pinned between Taylors facemask and Dalton's own shoulder pads. Taylor fell down on top of Dalton hard with Dalton's hand still pinned the same way. The rookie quarterback got up immediately holding his arm up to his chest and came running off the field with the rest of the offense as the punt team got ready to kick the ball to Cleveland. Dalton would attempt to throw some passes on the sideline early in the third quarter but never came back into the game.
Update: Bengals remain hopeful on Dalton this week

By GEOFF HOBSON

Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis said all the injuries suffered Sunday in the 27-17 win over the Browns were better Monday, but the only injury that’s known is quarterback Andy Dalton’s right wrist. It’s believed the Bengals think it’s a bruise but they continue to check to see if anything is broken with tests and visits to specialists as they remain hopeful he’ll be able to play in Denver Sunday. But it doesn’t appear to be a long-range problem at the moment.

GRUDEN THOUGHTS:
A few quick hits from Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden:

_The 41-yard TD pass to rookie wide receiver A.J. Green off a quick snap that won the game in Cleveland was a legal play, backing up what a NFL source told The Cleveland Plain-Dealer Monday. The Browns complained that the refs didn’t give the Browns time to match the Bengals’ substitution, but Gruden said they replaced a tight end with a wide receiver (to go three wides with two backs ), then called the play in the huddle, and then snapped it quickly. He also said former Bengals wide receiver Terrell Owens scored on a similar play last year.

_Gruden said rookie quarterback Andy Dalton played well mentally in his half of action, saying he only fouled up one check at the line of scrimmage when he ran running back Cedric Benson into the side with all the defenders. He also took the blame for the only clock snafu of the half, when the Bengals had to call a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty because he took tto long to call the play into Dalton.

“He scored on his first three drives in the NFL,” Gruden said. “That’s pretty good.”

_The Bengals actually started four rookies on offense because they loaded up with an extra tight end on the left side and undrafted rookie tight end Colin Cochart got a big block on the first snap of the season Benson took for seven yards. It foreshadowed his even bigger block on linebacker Scott Fujita on Benson’s clinching 39-yard TD run with 1:49 left in the game.

STAT CHECK:
»Bengals running back Cedric Benson is just one yard shy of the NFL rushing lead heading into Monday night’s games after his 121-yard effort in Cleveland was runnerup to the Eagles’ LeSean McCoy. He leads the NFL in carries with 25.

» Wide receiver A.J. Green leads all AFC rookies with 41 receiving yards, all on one catch … Jermaine Gresham is in some heady company with the tight ends that have caught at least six balls: San Diego’s Antonio Gates, Dallas’ Jason Witten, and Tampa Bay’s Kellen Winslow.

» His injured wrist limited rookie quarterback Andy Dalton to 10-of-15 passing for 81 yards and a TD, but it gives him a 102.4 passer rating that is 10th in the league and behind only Buffalo’s Ryan Fitzpatrick and Baltimore’s Joe Flacco in the AFC.

» Dalton's backup, Bruce Gradkowski, has the NFL’s fourth-best fourth quarter passer rating at 113.2. He was just 2-of-6, but they were Green’s TD and a 22-yard screen to running back Brian Leonard
.
» The Bengals defense played like a top 10 unit and the stats reflect it with a No. 6 ranking in total, as well as in the huge categories of yards per rush (8) and third-down percentage (7).

Green also had Sheldon Brown straight schooled for an easy TD but Brown realized it and grabbed some jersey.

AJ is good, really good but just like Andy needs to get his feet wet a bit. Scary potential.

I watched the game again and overall thought Clint had a really solid game. From what I saw he was getting good push.

I will admit. Dalton's pocket presence and overall poise has surprised me a bit. Now, I know it was only the Browns and this wasnt Heinz Field in December. But listen to the talking heads and we're only the bengals and were favorites to challenge Detroits 0-16 run.

Team has a real collegial feel to it that is fun to watch.

Anyone else watch Dunlap's interview today? Said he was so jacked towards end of game he can't even really remember what happened. He and Mike were seriously racing to McCoy. That's a competition we can seriously enjoy.

That's because Marvin brought in D guys that knew one another or already knew people on our team, ...our D has already jelled as a unit. All they need now is to season a bit together and it will just get better on that side of the ball.

Yeah, ...this season will be a lot of fun.

Good to hear that Dalton wont miss any time from this. Lets just hope this isnt one of those lingering things. I think he looked really good in the first half. IMO you can tell pretty quick if a QB has it, and Dalton looked like he has it.

This is about as off topic as it gets...but any tennis fans on here? This US Open final is absolutely amazing...epitome of two competitors giving it their all. Gotta love sports!

Was an awesome match. I watched it too. Novak Djokovic just had one of the best years in tennis history. Guy was insane today. Nadal played really tough too just to hang with him.

Dalton likely to play

Bengals QB's bruised forearm already improved

CINCINNATI -- Barring any unforeseen setback, Bengals rookie quarterback Andy Dalton appears to be on track to start Sunday's game at Denver.

Following coach Marvin Lewis' press conference on Monday, Dalton made a quick exit from the locker room and didn't want to comment. Even though the reports following the 27-17 win over Cleveland Sunday indicated that the injury he suffered was to the right wrist, it appears to be a bruised forearm.

Dalton visited a hand specialist Monday, but it was a precautionary measure to make sure no small bones were broken. He was injured on the last offensive play of the first half when he was hit by Phil Taylor on a pass. Dalton tried to throw on the sidelines early in the third quarter, but was unable to complete anything without grimacing.

Lewis did not directly address Dalton's status or any other players.

"No worse than yesterday. But a lot better than yesterday, actually," Lewis said. "We should be OK. We'll see on Wednesday."

Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden indicated that the protection was wrong on the play where Dalton was hurt.

Dalton, who was 10 of 15 for 91 yards and a touchdown, led the Bengals to scores on their first three drives, which marks the first time in franchise history that had happened in an opener.
Even though the Bengals had to punt on their final three drives of the half, Gruden was happy with what Dalton accomplished.

"I thought he did outstanding. There was a miscue in the running game but other than that I think he was very good," Gruden said. "He was smart in the pocket and did some good things."
On the running play, after which Cedric Benson appeared to have some words for Dalton, he checked to the wrong side. Instead of going left, he went right.

"That was the only head-scratcher in terms of decisions," Gruden said.

Lewis said Dalton handled things well and that it was a good first step.
