Seems like the Bengals would have had some comment by now. Opening kick off is six weeks from this coming Sunday and it seems like the Bengals would have something in place for attendance. Enquiring minds and season ticket holders' bank accounts want to know. The articles I saw did say that the Ohio Board of Health could keep, drop or modify the ruling later. I think they are waiting to see what happens in the next couple of weeks as things start ramping up. Here in Indiana we are still planning on fall high school sports but I still have not heard if they decided on fans and concessions. Last year I cooked at all my grandson's home soccer games with another parent and we still do not know what is happening and his first home game is Aug 15. Enquiring minds and season ticket holders' bank accounts want to know. The actual order is in the first paragraph link of this Cleveland.com article (sorry, don't know how to put a pdf into this page): As Ohio State football and Browns set attendance plans, current state order prohibits fans Updated Aug 03, 3:41 PM; Posted Aug 03, 1:58 PM COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Ohio Department of Health order amendment that went into effect Saturday prohibits spectators at the games of contact sports teams. The order defines contact sports to include football, basketball, rugby, field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, hockey, boxing, futsal and martial arts against opponents. The order remains in effect until the ODH revises or retracts it, or until DeWine’s current State of Emergency ends. If neither happens by the start of their seasons, the Buckeyes, Browns (plus for sure Bengals) and high school football teams will play in front of empty stands — if they are able to begin their seasons at all. If the State of Emergency remains in place at that time, it is possible those teams, conferences and other organizations will determine on their own they cannot move forward with games. https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2020/08/as-ohio-state-football-and-browns-set-attendance-plans-current-state-order-prohibits-fans.html ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Section 2 of the Order, at the bottom, is apparently the applicable reference to "No Fans"): "Spectators are not permitted at the contact sports inter club/team play" Judging from the language, no fans...anywhere (pro/college/high school/any school). The current State of Emergency (enacted in March) is indefinite. I have not seen any indication on any source, that would indicate a rescission of it anytime in the foreseeable future. Le Tigre
Zac Taylor has a preseason alternative planned for Bengals Intrasquad scrimmages are the new preseason games. The cancellation of the preseason was a necessary evil for the NFL to accept this year. While it will limit the spread of COVID-19 before the scheduled start of the regular season, it will also greatly limit the chances for many young players to make Week 1 rosters. Several players who made the Bengals’ 80-man roster will experience this struggle, and Bengals head coach Zac Taylor knows it. According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, Taylor spoke of a instituting “multiple scrimmages in an effort to make up for the cancellation of the preseason,” as Hobson put it. “We’ll have three or four different opportunities where we create some situations where we can really evaluate our guys in a game-like atmosphere,” Taylor said. Leading up to their preseason games, the Bengals don’t have very many team-based scrimmages in training camp. Players near the bottom of the roster can boost their chances to play in preseason games during those limited opportunities. Now, it appears that those are the only chances players have to prove worthy of roster spot. The Bengals will have to wait until August 17th to practice in full pads, and Taylor also said he may not utilize all 14 available padded practices. That gives the Bengals less than a month before their Week 1 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers to prepare their roster after seeing their players perform in full pads. Teams usually have two preseason games worth of film at their disposal by the middle of August in a normal year. Since the Bengals can’t play exhibitions against other teams, judging their own young talent playing against each other is the only way to simulate these experiences. It’s good that Taylor will bestow opportunities as best as he can, but the road for players living on the roster bubble will remain more difficult than ever before. https://www.cincyjungle.com/2020/8/5/21354912/bengals-preseason-2020-zac-taylor-training-camp-scrimmages-cincinnati-news
I_C_Deadpeople
Article in the Athletic about DC Anarumo and for the life of me I cannot actually recall this team ever talking like this: As many as six of the 17 newcomers could be lining up as starters Sept. 13 in the season opener against the Chargers. So they need to be learning a lot more than names — and quickly. “The good news is it’s not six rookies we’re depending on,” Anarumo said. “That would certainly add to the challenge. We made a conscious effort in the guys we took. Not only are they quality men and quality players, but they’re smart individuals and they’ve been around. While they may have called particular techniques something at another team, it’s really just, ‘Hey, this is just this from what you call it.’ “We’re trying to assimilate the best we can with some general things, and we’ll just build from there,” Anarumo continued. “So it’s exciting. They’ve done great in the classroom work and so far with the two walk-throughs we’ve had with the veterans and the five we had with the rookies. The guys are picking stuff up.” The Bengals went into the offseason with a defined checklist that began with leadership. It’s a shared trait among the free agents the team has signed and a constant thread running through the draft class. They also targeted success among the free agents, with all eight of them having made the playoffs in multiple seasons with their previous teams. And the coaches and scouts also zeroed in on fit, going after players who can make a smooth slide into the scheme Anarumo wants to develop in his second season at the helm. |SF2|
ABC/ESPN Sports is going to be crippled by this. They have the rights to the SEC games as well as Big 10. Sept. 13 L.A. CHARGERS CBS 4:05 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 17 at Cleveland NFL Network 8:20 p.m You wonder if the Bengals would be the perfect candidate to switch up the season opener to a Saturday, considering the week two Thursday game.
