If they trade him tomorrow, then the Bengals will be off the hook for the 12 mil because that's the only way they trade him. If another team wanted him they are going to have to pay him the full salary, the Bengals will not split his salary with another team for him to not be on our roster. Thus, it's pretty likely he is going to be here. They are also not going to cut Mixon to give the reigns to a 4th round rookie. Especially not when this is a Superbowl caliber roster. I have no idea why we keep talking about this at this point It keeps coming up because it's such an obvious poor allocation of resources. After OBj fell into our laps, the thing to do wasn't to make Jonah into a below average RT, it was to find our expensive former starting LT a new home and get compensation from his new team. If the Bengals had to pick up 2 mil of his salary to gain 10 mil in cap space and a better draft pick, do it. A healthy Williams is an average starting LT in the NFL which has trade value. But the trading partner would want to evaluate his health and willingness to sign longterm. That requires the Bengals permission, which they didn't grant. That was a mistake. Do you think Jonah is so good that the Bengals should be trying to sign him to a contract extension themselves? I hope not. Regarding Mixon, he had a below average ypc last season even though he faced a nearly league high number of light boxes. Opponents kept 2 safeties deep because of Chase and Higgins but other than the Carolina game, Mixon didn't punish them for it. The Titans had Derrick Henry on the trade block at the start of the offseason. Think he wouldn't do well for the Bengals vs light boxes? And he's cheaper than Mixon, believe it or not. As far as reports go, ONE team had any interest in Williams. And we have no idea if that meant they would take on the entire contract or even part of it, but the offer was obviously not serious enough for the Bengals to make that trade. So I'm not sure exactly what value he actually had. And yet here Derick Herny is.....still a Titan. The "poor allocation of resources" argument is a moot point here. There isn't anyone here that is not under contract. What money they pay or don't pay Williams or Mixon isn't going to someone else, at least not yet and it's pretty likely Williams won't be here next year anyway so that money frees up next year. If Mixon doesn't return to form he likely wont be here next year either. And as someone else pointed out the Eagles last year were in a similar situation paying one of their backup linemen starter's money. I'm pretty sure nobody in Philly cared when they made it to the Superbowl. This is an NFL team, not a quarterly report that needs to show a profit to shareholders. sparky151
Teams like the Colts, Patriots, Buccaneers, Rams, and Jets should have at least kicked the tires on Jonah. Upgrading their blindside protection for a 3rd would be good value for them if they were satisfied he was healthy and willing to sign for several years. membengal
Nothing to apologize for Griever - I was travelling today and didn't get a chance to see twitter or look for news at all. Came here first hoping you had collected some stuff from today since the media was there. Much, much appreciated.
