But you make my point. With Mixon there's always an excuse. O line, coaching and play calling everything you mentioned but nothing is ever his fault. We need something better than Joe Mixon, the K Mart Blue Light Special of Running Backs. Poster Boy for "Not My Fault" and "Even a Blind Squirrel Finds a Truffle Sometimes". I'm starting to lean your way. Mixon gives great effort but he runs to high and I haven't seen him bust a long run in quite awhile. If prefer Brown as he runs lower and accelerates to the hole quicker. I feel Brown could take it to the house where Mixon is a plodder.. They'll ride with Mixon though..

I feel Brown could take it to the house where Mixon is a plodder.. They'll ride with Mixon though.. So much for my self imposed moratorium... Watching other teams against us we constantly see their runners get the edge and pick up yardage... sometimes a woefully lot. Mixon can't do that. Or so rarely that if and when he does it is a noticeable rarity. The Bengals compensate with cutsie end arounds or razz ma razz throw to Ja'Marr who gets creamed in the backfield and Zac criticized for trick plays. If Mixon could get the edge and a few yards, we would not be doing that. It seems his blocking is a non issue because they don't even ask him to try. Easier to blame it on Sample. In Michael Weston's recent assessment of the team for next year (something) he addresses the running back position as Chase Brown and Mixon as the complimentary back, not the primary. Yep. Dilly! Dilly! But the final two critical games of the season we will see the coaching staff going with Mixon and continue to pound the square peg into the round home... why? because we're Bengals, son. Disclaimer... he will probably have a great game and prove me wrong but I am very OK with that.

alleycat
My biggest problem with Mixon is his vision, there are clear examples of him running into the back of an O-Lineman when there is a whole right next to that. Watch the last game for clear examples. My second biggest problem is how easily he goes down on contact, especially in the open field or with one defender. It's almost like he expects contact to take him down, and so he does. And when I mean go down, I mean go straight down, not go down and fall forward for an extra couple of yards. 1

I think Volson has improved enough to be off the list. He's ranked 43 out of 77 LGs now. That's a big improvement from his rook year. Here's a big strong cornfed kid that had no true test playing at a small school then thrust into an NFL starting lineup... Can't think of a bigger step to face.. He's beginning to play at a strong level. Don't get me going on OTs performances though..😔
sparky151
Yeah, in terms of O-line issues, Volson isn't the biggest one. Brown has been disappointing and Jonah is inadequate. We also don't have much depth. If Karras gets hurt, we're screwed.

I_C_Deadpeople
I will continue to scream for 2 OL and 2 DL in the first 4 rounds of the draft. Especially given the Reader injury. 1

Safety has to be looked at as Hill may be more suited for slot. Those 4 areas have to be addressed.

As an average over the season that's not accurate. Maybe in a game or two, but not consistently.

They wont touch safety imo, they arent going to move Dax after one year. RT is a need, NT is a need, coverage LB, and WR will be needs as well. Maybe they get both somewhere in the draft. After an OT and DT. 😎

If Dax doesn't come on at safety next year, then move him to the slot the following year. They may take a safety if they think Anderson can't stay healthy, but it wont be till later rounds. Mikeslumina
Can we just hire away from Cleveland the father Callahan? Browns are getting guys off street playing better than our high priced free agents. You should be able to find those guys. Browns can’t draft wr and we seem to be able to. I think a wr would be harder to find than lineman but guess there’s an art to it.

They have one of the best lines in football, so you got to think their assistant would be looking for a head job. Also, WR is waaay easier right now to find as the college game has guys coming out that are pro-ready every year these days. College is running a lot of spread offenses so linemen are not as ready to start day one.

Going shotgun/empty backfield or with a RB everyone knows can't/won't block all the time is how you get.a backup QB finishing out your season.
