Le Tigre
If the guy is all that and a bag of chips, then a flub-up by a 22-year old college kid should not deter them from taking the chance to shore up arguably the weakest area of their defense. “Character concerns” has always made me lol. If someone is pushing narcotics or trafficking children…then it’s a non-stater. A boozy (and who the heck knows what “drunk” is in Texas anyway) night out in Austin does not a Tony Montana make. 1

He's more likely to still be on the board at 49 but I'd be surprised if he lasts until pick 80. Remember that Paul Brown once drafted a guy who was in prison because he had a parole date before camp opened. Paul Brown? Goin back aways . They still may take him but with the way this org, under Katy, rates character, it's a red flag. Like LeTigre said. A mistake by a young man. Maybe give him a break on this. The Need Is Still There and he's a doubled teamed gap stopper.

Bo Callahan had character concerns. These days, teams have to be very careful with prospects who have shown immaturity (for the record, at that age I was VERY immature, thankfully there were no cell phones in the day). Given the money awarded players they need to be fully committed to football and to the craft of thier position. Maybe Sweat is, maybe he is not. But even earlier in the year there were flags raised about his weight and 'party' habits. Problem is, he can come out and say he made a mistake and learned his lesson, blah, blah, blah. But he has no chance to provie it before the draft. It is literally an idiot move he made. As in dumbass. I say he will fall to at least round 3 and perhaps further. Could be wrong, one team could take an earlier gamble.
Le Tigre
To be honest, each and every draftee—those exposed to the big man on campus limelight’s anyway—have “character concerns”. Being a dumbass getting caught while driving is really just being a dumbass getting caught. All these dudes party—and in a town like Austin with its many watering holes—I’m surprised more dumbasses don’t get caught.

Isn't that the plan.?

The Bengals should have fixed the NT problem in free agency but obviously they didn't. Supposedly the reason they didn't offer Tartt was because of his attitude, even with a gaping hole at the position. If they don't like Sweat's attitude, hard for me to imagine them selecting him. Yes, even with the gaping hole still there.
JC
Byron Murphy lined up in the A gap almost as often as Sweat last year. Kris Jenkins has a better run stop percentage than Sweat. Both much cleaner prospects and I imagine there’s a much higher probability one of those guys will be on the team than Sweat next year.
Le Tigre
First it’s “baggage”…now it’s “attitude”. Give it a few days and he’ll be Aaron Hernandez.

If he was a lazy ass that was over hyped why does every draft board have him as the top NT? Kid made a mistake. It's not a life sentence.. He's the force we need at NT. You know it.

sparky151
Most of them should be team captains. Those are usually the top players on their college teams, ie the pro prospects. There will be some early entry guys who weren't captains plus specialists. But of our 10 picks, I wouldn't be surprised if 7 or more were one of their college team's captains.

Rankins and Murphy trio is suitable do it then roll with it In Katy I trust ..

Murphy plays with terrific leverage and has the lower body strength that gives him a strong base as a run defender. His relentless motor and short-area quickness cause him to be a major factor when pursuing a play laterally.

I'd have signed A-Shawn Robinson. He ended up going to the Panthers for about 8 mil per year for 2 years. That's if the Bengals were determined to let Reader walk. DJ signed with Detroit for less than the Bengals are paying Rankins.
