OR just possibly and alternative theory... maybe we needed a RT because our previous starter went to another team and our current starter is elderly and injury prone? Nahhhhh we just wanted to draft who we thought the stealers wanted. That must be it. 🙄

It seems like the earliest Mims might have gone off the board was at 12 to Denver. Their pick apparently came down to Nix or Mims, with the need at QB winning out. Also, New Orleans had a tough time deciding between Fuaga and Mims at pick 14, with their dire need for a strong opening day starter tipping the scales toward Fuaga. Then there were many teams scrambling to move up into Jacksonville's slot for either Mims or a defensive player. Among NFL scouts the general consensus was  that Fautanu was definitely the least desired of the six top tier OTs that had been discussed so long, mostly because they think he's more of a natural guard than a tackle.

This was the genius of the FO signing of Trent Brown. We don't now have that dire need. We might need him soon, but Mims is not going to go into opening day with the pressure of having to start, it's something he gets to earn. We also now have a swing backup of a high caliber at both Tackle positions, something we haven't had in what seems like forever.

Saints needed both a LT and RT. Penning struggled at LT for them so they moved Peat over there. Ramczyk has a knee problem that may prevent him from playing again. Fuaga would be a good fit for them at RT but I have doubts he's quick enough to play LT.

Agreed. It's nice to have a swing tackle backup who is better than Carman or Ford.

I was a little surprised that Bill Callahan plans to move JC Latham to left tackle. The Titans were upset that the Chargers took Alt at pick 5, but they could have taken LT Fashunu instead of RT Latham. Will be fascinating to track all 5-6 of these OTs over the next few years, just to see how they all fare with their NFL teams.

Amarius Mims crowned 'best pick' of 2024 NFL draft's 1st round

Mims is a fantastic athlete for his size but struggled with injuries at Georgia. Regardless, he allowed just six quarterback pressures across 402 career pass-blocking snaps and should start very soon, as Trent Brown is only a short-term solution for the team at right tackle.
