sparky151 Posted December 30, 2024 Report Posted December 30, 2024 Tomlin confirmed the Stealers aren't going to be resting anyone, regardless of whether the Ravens win or lose. His team has lost 3 in a row and he said they needed to get back on track. 1 Quote

Just a blast to watch '86 was a great team, no doubt, but the reason I suggested we weren't elite that year was: * The 14-2 Giants were elite * We got smoked by the 14-2 Bears, who were also elite * We got smoked by the 6-10 Squealers, who were most assuredly not elite * We blew a mid-season game to the 5-11 Oilers * With a chance to stake a claim to the division championship in the penultimate week of the season, at home, vs the CFT, we got smoked yet again. Then came the whole Patriots-Dolphins MNF kick in the teeth. I'm not sure we would've fared any better vs New York in the SB than Denver did, but man, it sure would've been fun to find out. And with that experience under his belt, maybe SB XXIII turns out a little better for Boomer. 2 Quote

I'll skip saying something like, "Unfortunately, he's still alive" because that would be mean-spirited, and I would never even think such a thing. But I take a measure of delight knowing that he spent the final NFL game of his career freezing to death in Riverfront Stadium in the 1981 AFC Championship Game for San Diego. I hope he got frost bite on every single appendage. 1 Quote
Arkansas Bengal Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Mike Tomlin doubts he’ll rest starters vs. Bengals if Ravens beat Browns on Saturday By Myles Simmons Published December 30, 2024 01:18 PM By the time the Stealers kick off against the Bengals on Saturday night, they’ll know if they’re still in contention for the AFC North crown. Should Baltimore beat Cleveland in Saturday’s first game, then the Ravens will clinch the division. That means, in theory, Pittsburgh could rest its starters with just the risk of losing a seed in the conference’s playoff positioning. But Stealers head coach Mike Tomlin didn’t seem to want to go that route when asked about it during his Monday press conference. “I haven’t pondered that at all, to be quite honest with you,” Tomlin said when asked if he’d potentially rest starters if the Ravens win. “That might be a thought for later in the week. But as I mentioned, I think it’s significant how we go into this tournament. So, I doubt that I’ll be in that mentality that you mentioned.” Tomlin had mentioned that he wanted to get the stench of the last game off of the club earlier on in his presser. But the Stealers have also lost their last three games — falling to the Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs since defeating Cleveland on Dec. 8. The head coach said he felt “really good” about how the team responded to being back in the building on Monday. “We were very transparent about what needs to be done and our course of action in an effort to create it,” Tomlin said. “But, again, I think we show mentality with our urgency and how we work. And so I’m excited about getting back on the grass tomorrow and starting the process. But, some bright eyes, some rested faces. Felt real good about what we were able to get done in a classroom-type setting this morning.” https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/cincinnati-bengals Quote
Arkansas Bengal Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Stealers are expecting Joey Porter Jr., Ben Skowronek to play in Week 18 By Myles Simmons Published December 30, 2024 12:25 PM Coming off a Christmas Day loss to the Chiefs, the Stealers are expecting a couple of players back for Saturday’s matchup with the Bengals. Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters in his Monday press conference that the team is “moving in the right direction” when it comes to getting players healthy. “This week, it looks like Joey Porter is scheduled to make it back, along with Ben Skowronek,” Tomlin said. “And so getting a healthy outfit, particularly as you get toward the end of this season and lean in on a single elimination tournament is big business for us. We’re excited about the issues of dividing the labor up and having, really, a full stable at our disposal in the effort to formulate plans and make plays. “It’s going to be needed, quite honestly, because Cincinnati is red hot.” Porter was sidelined by a knee injury for the matchup with Kansas City. Skowronek was dealing with a hip injury. Playing on Saturday, Pittsburgh’s first injury report of the week is due out on Tuesday. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/cincinnati-bengals Quote

|High School Harry| Posted December 31, 2024 Report Posted December 31, 2024 Nightmare scenario to stare Stealers in the face with loss to Bengals After dropping the last three games, even the most ardent Pittsburgh Stealers fans are weary of their team's imminent future. A nightmare scenario awaits the Black and Gold if their downward trajectory continues. Riding a four-game win streak (second only to the Kansas City Chiefs' six), their forthcoming Cincinnati Bengals opponent got hot at the right time. And the Stealers went cold at the wrong time. Fans pointing to Pittsburgh's Week 13 victory over the Bengals in enemy territory need to rethink their argument. At that time, the Stealers had a top-ranked defense that has struggled mightily since. The Bengals offense, led by Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, are lighting it up. The unit is first in the NFL in total passing yards and yards per game. The Stealers' defense simply cannot keep up if they play as they have been recently. A loss to Cincinnati, coupled with an all-but-guaranteed Los Angeles Chargers win over the Las Vegas Raiders, would give the Stealers the No. 6 seed heading into the playoffs. This nightmare scenario would send Pittsburgh back to Baltimore, the scene of the Week 16 34-17 crime. It's tough to imagine the Stealers pulling off a first-round win, something they've failed to do in four opportunities since 2016. Quote
