Fuck that and fuck waiting around until 7:00 Sun night to have our souls slowly crushed.

Although if we lose I can take Sunday off and go for a hike in the woods or something.

This is pure NFL. They want to highlight Joe alone in prime time—probably winning against their backups (they are already locked into the #5 seed). Then have “live cameras” of the Bengals all through the two Sunday games. I remember something like this in 1986.

Drama…drama…drama. Brought to you by the NFL.

But, with all of this attention…

I don't like this. I mean I like it being on Saturday - but man - Burrow gets hit a lot anyway, but with these fuckers... well, we know how they hit. And we know how the O line is.

I thought they were locked into the 5 as well, but they could win the division if somehow DTR wasn't ass, and we lost. They also could drop to 6 if we win and the Chargers win. So they will have something to play for and will be starting their guys.

5 instead of 6 means going to Houston instead of Baltimore.  They might want Houston.

Especially considering that they have already split with Baltimore.

lol I remember that night well at the end of 86'. I think the Bengals were hanging out at the top of that rotating restaurant across the river maybe? They kept cutting live to them and talking to Boomer. And there was a drunk Bengal macking on some chick in the background. And it ended in disappointment  of course.

I’m not sure if it was there or at The Precinct. I’ve done a search and can’t come across anything. I was watching the game at the time and they kept cutting to them—all in hats for the Jets if I remember correctly

In '86, we smoked the Jets on Sunday, 52-21, but needed the 10-5 Patriots to lose at 8-7 Miami on MNF. The Jets would've won a 10-6 tie-breaker over New England, dropping the Pats into a Wild Card tie with us & KC. New England would've been odd-man out. Instead, they beat the Fish, 34-27, and we were out.

The Powers That Be will have time to get to the refs to insure the Jets and Cheats second string win.

1/2 :ninja: because as Jeff Saturday said (sort of) Who do you want to see in the playoffs, Joe or Bo?

Who would bring in more viewers, Joe or Bo?

The first time I remember the Bengals watching the outcome of another game determine their playoff fate was 1984. The Bengals started that season 0-5 (sound familiar?) under first-year head coach Sam Wyche and were 4-8 (sound familiar?) when Pittsburgh led the division at 6-6. Wyche made a comment to the media guaranteeing that the Bengals would win out (sound familiar?) and get to 8-8 and something to the effect of "let's see if they can go 3-1", meaning Pittsburgh. If the Stealers went 2-2, the Bengals would win the tie-breaker.

Pittsburgh beat Cleveland the next week to go 7-6 but then lost at 2-11 Houston in overtime to level back to 7-7. The won the next week to go 8-7 and had to finish up on the road against the defending Super Bowl Champion Raiders, who were 11-4. However, LA's playoff position was already decided (sound familiar?), and Pittsburgh won the game and the division while the Bengals and Wyche watched from Wyche's couch.

Here's a video of that game. The first few seconds lay out the playoff possibilities and the first shot of the Bengals players watching the game is at the 11:45 mark.

A Wild Card Weekend tilt of Joe vs Josh? Obviously put in the prime Saturday evening spot?

Yeah...bring on the TV ratings.

Wow, that video brings back a lot of memories. I remember watching it with some friends who were dyed-in-the-wool Dolphins fans. I thought New England was toast.

We weren't elite in '86, but we shoulda been in the playoffs. The game in Mile High was our undoing. Boomer had rallied us from a 20-pt 4th quarter deficit. Driving late, trailing 34-28, the crowd noise caused the center to snap the ball when Boomer wasn't ready, lost a ton of yardage and that killed what should've been the game-winning drive.

Both the 1985 and 1986 teams were frustrating to watch, as both put up a ton of points but the defense gave up a ton, as well (sound familiar?) Penis LeBeau was the DC in those years.

The 1985 team was 3rd in the NFL in both points scored and yards gained, but the defense gave up the third-most points in the league.

The 1986 team was #1 in the NFL in yards gained and #3 in points scored, but the defense gave up the sixth-most points in the league.

Yep. And all of that was at the same time that the Reds, having finally climbed out of the early-80's abyss, could only muster a 2nd-place finish. Year, after year, after year...

Yep, every year they were among the best teams in baseball, but other NL West teams took turns being a bit better. :(
