Geno Stone was bad..he can't tackle .

Hopefully they cut him.

Tyceen Anderson would be a better alternative.

i am curious what they do here, Stone did tackle poorly but he had a few runs of solid play and played better in the past, so its going to be a matter of if Golden thinks the poor play was a result of the calls/scheme issues, or if they can do better/same for less.

im fine with it either way, as ill trust their call on that one since we all have no idea..

Bengals should seriously consider drafting Xavier Watts, who Al Golden knows very well. And let him wear #0.

In what round are we talking about?

2nd?...doubtful with the holes we have.

My Thoughts

1- Battle back and most likely starts

2- Stone I assume we cut him we save 6.5M

3-Bell I think is gone

4-Anderson-I think we'd all love to see some snaps from scrimmage for him

5-Key is back as futures

6-Jules is back as a futures....I really like Jules, he has a future

7-I think we will take the ND safety in the first round, I don't necessarily disagree that its too early but I think he will be seen as the centerpiece to make the D work.

Would Vonn Bell bite on a 2.5 yr deal?

I think he'd like to go for a championship with this team.

Be nice to have him as a reserve.

Bell is slow af, I be surprised if any team picked him up. I think his playing days are done.

I think they will give Stone a shot with a new DC that can adjust his scheme to match the players on the roster. It seems like Lou waited until the season was over to make adjustments and simplify things for guys like Stone, whose play improved towards the season. I agree that his tackling left a lot to be desired but he does have value in coverage, he has 11 ints in the past 2 seasons, which makes him 2nd in the NFL behind Kerby Joseph with 13.

If Watts is there in the 2nd round I would take him, especially if they draft a DE in the first. He can come in and be a defense QB and make sure everyone is properly aligned, which was a big problem last year.

Assuming he tests ok, I'd be glad to get Watts at 49. He may not last that long but 17 is too early for him. It sounds like the Bengals are going to keep Stone around for a while, at least past the draft. That's fine, no guarantee he can be replaced in the draft.

Free safety is one of several holes on our defense. Watts would be an upgrade from Stone, both as a tackler and in coverage.

No thanks on Vonn. His time has passed. The team usually keeps 10 DBs on the 53, split either 4/6 or 5/5 between safety and CB. Vonn doesn't deserve one of the safety spots.

Maybe Stone has some trade value for a team whose front 7 is better in run defense? I wouldn't ask much for him.

If Watts is there in the 2nd round I would take him, especially if they draft a DE in the first. He can come in and be a defense QB and make sure everyone is properly aligned, which was a big problem last year.

Watts is also a playmaker, with lots of interceptions the last couple of years.

I can't imagine Lou was running any defensive scheme that called for Stone to half-assedly shove the ball carrier as they ran past him.  Tackling is mostly about want-to and he clearly did not.  I don't think that's on the DC.

Lots of starting safety options but no one really stands out to me

  • Diggs-Lisfranc week 9, solid coverage scores, Already 32, 1 yr 3M last year, exceptional tackling last year, 120 career starts
  • Ashtyn Davis-Not a lot of snaps but decent coverage and tackling last year, Balance snaps between FS, Box and Slot, 1yr 2.7M last year. 22 career starts
  • Blackmon-27 and heading for a new deal after signing a 1 year 3.7M deal to go back to Indy,  bad tackling last year, 62 career starts 16 last year
  • Thornhill-Browns cap casualty, My browns fans buddies weren’t sad to see him go, injured to end the year, good coverage scores over his career, Mostly FS but also Box and Slot
  • Forrest-UC alum from Columbus, Just 17 starts, 26 years old, fractured shoulder in 2024, started 11 games in 2023 and none in 2024
  • Mills-91 career starts, some at corner, primarily safety last 2 years
  • Holland-Only 25, Bad coverage grade in 24 but great 21-23, Overall play down in 24, 57 career starts,
  • Will Harris-Historically Meh PFF scores, 53 career starts, 13 in 24
  • Bynum-27, 54 career starts over last 3 years in Minnesota, Solid tackling and run D per PFF
  • Mathieu-33 already, I am old, 171 career starts with 17 last year, coverage grade bad in 24 but great in 21-23
  • Simmons-32, 124 career starts including 16 last year, coverage seems to be falling off
  • Cisco-Another 25 year old safety with lots of starts, down year in 24 but solid in 22-23,
  • Hufanga-Lots of injuries but only 26, 37 career starts when not injured,
  • Pinnock-26, surprisingly took over as a starter as a sophomore, not so great in coverage 39 career starts, 16 last year.

At 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, S Nick Emmanwori ran 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash with a 1.49-second 10-yard split. He had a 43-inch vertical and an 11-foot-6 broad jump.

Giving him a perfect 10.0 RAS 😳

He's basically DK Metcalf as a DB

... Could be an option at pick 17.

He has good tape too. A bit like David Fulcher though these days you can't blow up receivers like you could then.

If the Bengals use an early pick as safety, I'd bet on Watts in round 2 over Starks or Emmanwori in round 1.
