If the Bengals sign Arrington, I will never post here again.

I am that sure that it doesn't happen.
I'm not sure they beat UAB. NO WAY they beat UConn.

Oh wait, brain cramp. Yeah, 22 would post here if that happened.

But still...

You may be underestimating UK. They are inconsistent this season but when they put a game together, they are VERY tough.

NFLPA SUSPENDS CARL POSTON

Liz Mullen of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the NFLPA Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline has voted to suspend agent Carl Poston for two years.

The suspension arises from Poston's negotiation of LaVar Arrington's December 2003 contract extension with the Redskins. After the deal was done, Poston claimed that the Redskins had failed to include in the final version of the contract a $6.5 million roster bonus payable in 2006, which would have resulted in two 2006 $6.5 million roster bonuses in the contract. In support of the allegation that the 'Skins had hoodwinked Arrington and his agent, Poston admitted that the didn't read the contract before it was signed. The grievance filed on Arrington's behalf later was resolved in a manner that resulted in no payment or promise of payment to Arrington.

Poston can appeal the suspension to an arbitrator.

The irony is that Arrington was cut before either bonus would have come due. And the far bigger disservice, in our opinion, to Arrington was the failure of Poston to determine the market value of Arrington before allowing him to waive $4.4 million in deferred signing bonus money in order to secure his freedom, and in permitting him to turn down the opportunity to convert the $6.5 million roster bonus into a guaranteed payment. In more than a week since Arrington bought his release from the 'Skins by giving up the deferred bonus money, Arrington has made two visits and has received no offers.
Chris Perry got a 7 million $ deal as the 26th draft pick in the first rd of '04.Why would the Bengals overpay Arringtion when they can get a terrific LB with this years 24th pick ? You could say Arrington's a great LB and possibly be right. However, the real question is how much greater at what cost ? In my book, draft a stud LB and thank God that we've got guys like Landon Johnson on our roster. The cost of both will be 25 % of Arrington's tab and will have no impact on your CAP.
Patmo you could make this argument with any position ....

why pay for a 20 millon dollar RB when you can get a good one at 24 ? etc etc etc

However if you get Arrington (who is probably the most athletically gifted linebacker since Lawrence Taylor) then you can also get another great player at 24 and fill 2 needs instead of one .....

I'm thinking the Bengals might be liking the idea of Pope at #24 .....

I know he's athletic... I also know that he's been an underachiever for better part of his career.. I dont see that changing...He's not worth what he'll ask which is going to be a boatload of money imo... fuck him

Most teams are done shelling out the big money on free agents. This guy wanted to much at the start of free agency(the doings of his agents no doubt). The only way this guy is gonna make the big money is if he gets a contract loaded with incentives. I wouldn't mind signing him to something like this, it would force him to work hard and reach his potential.
The Giants still don't have a weak-side linebacker, though, and there now seems to be little hope of them landing LaVar Arrington. A source familiar with his plans told The News that "LaVar is talking seriously with other teams and has no plans to revisit the Giants." It is believed that the Cincinnati Bengals have become the front-runner for his services, and he's expected to visit there in the coming days.
The source also said that Arrington's status will not be affected by the NFL Players Association decision yesterday to hit his agent, Carl Poston, with a two-year suspension. Poston was banned for his role in Arrington's dispute with the Redskins over a $6.5 million bonus, but he is planning an appeal.

The threat of that suspension is why Carl's brother, Kevin, has been handling Arrington's negotiations this offseason.
maybe the Bengals are weighing out signing Arrington and drafting a DT early or signing Adams and going with a DE or CB early in the draft....
do they sign both? it would be nice but gut feeling is no...

No kidding...

Still, it adds a bit of fire to these otherwise-boring days of FA. It's something to talk about, and he is one of the few guys that could actually be a difference-maker out there.

Still...I won't hold my breath, and I certainly don't think it's a 'must have' for our D to get better this year. Jackson, Madieu and the development of Pollack and Thurman alone should raise us 12 spots in the yardage rankings.

Obviously, it's not something to put all your hopes on.

But I do believe that Arrington is a much better fit with our D than Sam Adams could ever be.

Meaning...It wouldn't be tough to choose between the two; especially if Adams wants 3.5M and Arrington costs 6M.

Why is evryone so excited about getting Arrington. The guy is nothing but a trouble maker, and he hasn't done much of anything on the field lately. He has only played in 15 games over the last two seasons and has a grand total of fifty tackles and ONE sack.

He is maybe the most over hyped player in the entire league.

Well considering that Marvin is the one driving this I believe that is part of the reason. Under Lewis coaching Arrington had 90+tackles and 11 sacks, that is also a reason why people are getting excited. Don't you think Arrington would help the defense, bring some swagger and big play ability?

He also described Lavar as being the most undisciplined player he's ever coached. Frankly I dont know what to think about this. Is it a ruse by the Arrington camp to get more money elsewhere? Is it legit? If so, which I'd be supprised, what happens to Pollack who was drafted to fit this role? Does he go back to DE? I'd be supprised by that as well. Does Simmons get let go or put into rotation?

Ill be very supprised if this happens.
