thanks once again everyone!

Things are up. xrays of lungs seem to keep improving.

for the first time someone spoke of rehab and ..well, survival today.

we arent out of the dark by any means yet, there are other issues with temperature and heart rate and blood pressure, but the lungs are improving..

if/when she makes it out of there, she will have to go to a drake center or other rehab facility, and relearn eating solid foods, walking, and basic motor skills.

muscle mass has been deteriorating for over a week or two even now, so its a rough road ahead.. but her eyes open and breathing on her own again are all i am looking for.

keep them coming... I feel hopeful and optimistic for the first time.

praying for a good tomorrow!

Thanks,

Ryan

*sigh*

when we left yesterday, everything was looking good, oxygen dropped down to 69% forced and levels in the low 90s... plans were to get her out of the rotoprone bed today.

overnight the temperature issue continued (being in that bed doesnt help) and stayed around 104-105 aside from a span of motrin helping it down which i think i already posted..

so when we get in this morning, i guess her kidneys werent performing up to par..

kidney specialist(doctor names/titles escape me) eventually came in, and essentially was a dick and said her kidney hasnt failed YET, but its not good, and we will see how it is tomorrow.. (thanks mean ass doctor)..

she was getting kinda dry inside from the mix of drugs, and they needed to give her fluids, since her body wasnt producing many proteins(?) the liver wasnt handling the fuilds well and getting them out of the body so fluid went back into her lungs(which had been looking "great") so we were back peddling a few steps in the progress and now have new problems

there was blood in her stomach, FINALLY around 7 GI doc came and scoped, turns out she got a scrape when the tubes got put in her throat, it scabbed over but all the blood thinners and tylenol/motrin made it start to bleed out.

and kidenys reacted to processing the blood in the stomach?!?

family doc was there(one who admitted her) and essentially we were led to believe that the blood in stomach and bleed out and meds kind of made the kidney act as if it were failing?!? and as long as the temp can be kept down and blood pressure normal, the kidney should get back to normal.

so tonight, we are praying that she has a good cool night, blood pressure normal, heart rate normal, temp low and normal...

if so.. we move her into a proper bed, tilt her upright a little, her face stops swelling up and looking bruised and bloated, and if her oxygen level keeps improving even slightly.. we can get the respirator off as well and go back to a less intrusive oxygen mask.

we are still in a bad BAD place... and need a lot of work to get her out of there...plead God, we need her to get better.

keep the prayers coming.

Thank you all again!

You know GB, about 5 months ago my Dad called me in a daze telling me he was in an emergancy room, but he didn't know what hospital. Evidently he finally decided to go see a Doctor, as I'd been begging him to do for months, and that Doctor told him that she couldn't help him, he had to go to the hospital. He wound up at a hospital some 40 miles from his house so needless to say, it was tough to find him. Talk about a sleepless night.

The next day I get a phone with a now semi-lucid Father who was able to explain where he was and that his body was full of tubes and that he was going into surgery later that day (biopsy). I don't think he even realized he'd already had a surgery to drain fluids from his lungs.

When I got there my Dad had just been taken to surgery, but one of his amazing care givers was there and in fact I stood at the nursing staion as he explained to the nurse how futile the situation was with the patient in E520. Yah, that was my Dads room, but I didn't know that yet. The Doctor was still standing there when I asked the receptionist what room my Dad was in and the Doctor took me aside and explained that the patient he was talking about was my Father and things didn't look good.

He explained that my Dad "more than likely" had lung and lymphatic cancer and it was very advanved. They were sure what it was even though the test weren't complete yet.

So the whole family comes in to CT and the Doctors give us all the awful news and it's a wake in advance. Everyone goes home expecting the worst and I drive 120 miles back and forth to the hospital every day thinking each one will be the last and after a month a funny thing happened...He was back. He never had lung cancer at all, but he did have treatable lymphnoma. Not curable, but it could be treated.

He made an amazing recovery and is in full remission and just today I got a phone call from my Father (we have all dubbed him our "Jewish Mother", because he is so incredibly good at guilt tripping) complaining that none of us "kids" have made Thanksgiving plans yet. I'm glad to have him back.

I hope you have the same outcome GB.

All my best

Not that I'm Jewish myself, but I think they consider the power of the Jewish Mother in guilt tripping a badge of pride rather than an insult.

Go, bloated face is probably from steroids used to reduce swelling . Not to worry about that. Good luck. Sounds like she's a fighter.

Hang in there Ryan. Its a real scary thing to go through. My daughter was diagnosed with H1N1 about 3 weeks ago. I was shocked when the doctor told me it. Fortunately it was an extremely mild case of H1N1. She was only sick for a day or so. Thank God it wasn't a bad case of it.
Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Have faith she WILL pull through this ok!
