I hear he has NFL caliber hands.

And I love the Shipley pick.

Shipley is fighting Cosby more than Simpson this year at least to get on the field.
Simpson has to beat out Jones and/or Caldwell for 3rd WR - I don't think he sits next year - he plays or goes home.

"One of the only knocks on you is your speed" and yet he's constantly compared to Wes Welker. Ridiculous.
Not really. Welker isn't a burner either. He ran a 4.55, Shipley ran a 4.54 and 4.56. Almost eerie... They are both quick, undersized, tough, great hands and great route runners.

3 new WRs and a shiny new TE in the mix. Carson and Brat have a lot of new toys to play with.

Time for the cream to rise @ WR. Caldwell needs to step up his game, and Simpson needs to find his. In a hurry.
simpson's as good as gone...(where's the emoticon for throat slash?).

Is Shipley better than Mardy?
everyone is better than mardy.

no one outside of cincinnati gives two fucks about mardy...

which is why he went in the 4th round...

Thank you! Someone finally sees that Mardy will sit the bench in the NFL

he may get PT ion the rams... and will be good return guy... but people in ohio had this dude going in the first round..

and people on the radio around cincy were calling into shows like "bengals should get gilyard in the first if he is still there and hope pike drops to them in the second!!!111

its shocking how many people dont see any different in the big east and the nfl...

gilyard is a poor mans peter warrick... flashy quick but mediocre top speed, ....

he could have moderate success in the nfl.. but he is probably a mid 4th round value.... rams give their new QB a slot weapon and get a return man in the deal too... good pick for them..

but he is worthless to us... our return game is hella nice with bscott and he brings nothing to the table that caldwell doesnt already..

Does shipley become the place-holder?
I doubt it, becuase he's probably going to be too busy and the punter is right there in the teams group.
Gives us an option though.
Jordan Shipley, WR, Texas - Shipley is obviously one of my favorite players in this draft. He’ll be drafted as a role player, but his team will soon see that they have a future starter on their hands. In a word, his game is natural. He doesn’t have elite size, quicks, or explosion, but he gets more out of what he has than most NFL receivers get out of their gifts. His decent speed is made better by moves that can freeze would-be tacklers (those moves also do that in his routes), and an instinctive ability to quickly turn upfield and convert to run after catch mode. He also plays with a ton of desire and a knack for coming through in big moments. His balance, footwork, and body control finish off a smooth style of play that should translate well.

NFL Comparison: Austin Collie if he could do something after the catch

9. Jordan Shipley - Texas, 5’11” 193 lbs. - Shipley is an agile and quick receiver who lacks the explosiveness a player needs to easily seperate from the secondary and occasionally catches the ball with his body. However, he can be exceedingly dangerous in the open field and has a nose for finding open spots when running his routes. Durability is a concern as he missed 2004 and 2005 due to leg issues. He also had shoulder surgery last summer though that didn’t seem to impact his Senior year as he compiled career highs in receptions (116), yards (1,485) and touchdowns (13). While Shipley proves himself on offense (and he will) he will be an immediate contributor on special teams, where his return kills will shine right away.
This is Shipley with the almost TD, but look at who puts on a sick block for him.

Hines should take notes on how Quan exploded at the dudes shoulder/chest area instead of his head.

Back in late January Fox sports had a receiver skills challenge in Florida for some players going into the draft. It was based on how quickly a WR could run an obstacle course while catching passes with time penalties for drops. Anyway, Shipley won the competition with the other contestants being Mardy Gilyard, Dez Bryant, and Damian Williams. Shipley simply has excellent change of direction skills without having to slow down much.

Instant Fantasy analysis . . .

WR Jordan Shipley / Bengals / Round Three, Pick 84

After drafting TE Jermaine Gresham in Round One, the Bengals continue to bolster their receiving corps with Shipley. A smart, hardworking, skilled player, he is a prime candidate to man the slot in Cincy. However, he's not very athletic and must beat out Andre Caldwell, so he might not have an immediate impact. He's a late-round flier pick at best.

not very athletic???? That reaks of "he's white, he must not be a good athlete". You can't watch tape of Shipley and say he's "not very athletic".

why not add the possible wrinkle and advantage shipley would give? what also gives you an advantage there is shipley's game knowledge. he'd never take off unless he KNEW the option was there. he's a coach's' kid...got football smarts... savvy....whatever you want to call it...that something extra. the last thing i would question about shipley is his hands. his hands vs. our punter's...come on, are you kidding me?
