I caught the tail end of Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan's interview with Paul Alexander yesterday on Sirius. They will air the the interview again tomorrow again @ 6:30 PM. Anyway Paul said that Andre Smith is doing very
well and that they expect big
things from him and that Kyle Cook is going to be better than we all think. Overall Paul had many
good things to say about the O Line
and the team in general

I like what I'm hearing, but I would love it if they could show me the improvement.....

It is the first wek of July. What do you want them to do? Come to your house and drive block you across your yard?

This time last year he was our starting RT. I'll be glad to see him just get back to that level.

Pro Football Focus ranks the O-lines . . .

No. 7 -- Cincinnati Bengals (Run No. 8, Pass No. 6, Penalties No. 29)

This is a huge positive move for the Bengals, but you can't help thinking that but for some strange coaching decisions it could have been even better. With Evan Mathis installed as the full-time starting LG the Bengals won six of seven games and he played as well as anyone. But when he returned from mid-season injury the coaches saw fit to rotate him with the vastly inferior Nate Livings. In addition, as the season wore on, the permutations and frequency of use of unbalanced lines became less a sign of clear strategy and more an indication of desperation.

Best Player: For many years RG Bobbie Williams has been as good and consistent player as you can find, but the time it took them to resign him suggests even the team itself doesn't realize his worth.

Biggest Concern: Can the coaches just settle on the best five guys they have and stop trying to over-think the whole thing?

Looks like (according to them anyway) that if they can clean up the penalties,
the O-line should be a strength.

This pretty much backs up what I've been arguing here for months. The Bengals' o-line made vast improvement last year by practically any measure. Penalties were definitely a problem (particularly false start and delay of game penalties), but a correctable one. Considering the youth and amount of changing/shuffling that occurred, I'm not sure what kind of expectations others had going into the season. I was pleased with what they did.

I've been saying we should put Mathis in and keep him in, I really don't understand what they were thinking of constantly putting Livings in there. Let Mathis stay at LG and leave Smith at RT and this line will be set!

16 games of Andre Smith + stability at LG - atleast 1/2 the procedural penalties = best line since 05 and by far the best line in the division.

Considering a more experienced Kyle Cook, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect all of this to happen.

I agree. As for last year I just don't think Mathis was ever 100% recovered. Even when he was in there he wasn't as effective as he was before the injury.

While Im optomistic that the team will see improvement on both pass protection and run blocking efficiency the team has to be concerned about presnap mistakes ...
Does this improve? no answer for that....it just plays out from week to week ..
As for being the best line "by far" in the division....
Please dont underestimate the Ravens Oline.....they were ranked ahead (2nd overall) in the Pro Football Focus Oline catagories...
Theyre giving Flacco the time to check down and opening up holes for Ray Rice to excell...
