I hope they pick up Quan because he knows the offense and can return punts, Tate sucks at returning punts as he looks scared back there by himself.

That first punt return was just not going to get anything. Those Broncos were all set to kill anyone who caught the ball. However, I agree Quan would be the better choice. Quan catches and goes. Tate has the happy feet Ratliff had, and that just means fewer yards... Tate is a better kick returner at a time when there won't be many kick returns.

Exactly why I don't understand why they cut the best PR in the history of the franchise in favor of guy who specializes is returning kick-offs. I guess MB figures it's the samething so KR skill set should translate into PR, but that is not the case. Tate looks indecisive and timid when returning punts, two qualities that will ensure that you will not have success. NE cut him for a reason, but I guess MB is smarter than Belicheck.

Cutting Quan was a mistake in my book, atleast they should have cut Whalen and put him on the practice squad, but whatever. I just hope we don't sign some UFL guy, if they don't sign Quan I'm going to be disappointed.

Sucks that he got hurt, but between Caldwell and Whalen, I don't think they miss a beat.

agreed...absolutely sucks to lose shipley, but i think caldwell can fill in nicely

of all the skill position starters shipley was probablly the most easily replaceable

Sorry to see this injury. I expected him to be a solid producer this year. Hurts to lose depth so early in the season.

Lots of other good stuff going on though.

And without starting another thread, I'll say great job to Nugent as well. Glad to see he's coming back from injury well.

I've been out of the loop a while dealing with a very hectic life, but I'll pop in occasionally to say hello.

Go Bengals!

Interesting to see Thornton's tweet that Shipley wasn't gonna be a big part of Gruden's offense this year? Wonder if that was a typo... I'd say it was too soon to make that statement, especially after last year's production and the fact that the offense really struggled on 3rd down yesterday.

Really like Ship but this also opens up opportunity for Caldwell, who I believe is in a contract year. I like him -he doesn't have Ship's hands or feel for getting open, but he's faster and more explosive.

doesn't seem to be a typo. Probably conjecture on his part, but through the first 1+ games and the preseason, Dalton didn't seem to be looking his way much.

Hate to see a kid like this hurt, but weird to me all 3 players on IR went to Texas :17:

We will see who we bring in, but it might not be a WR, could look at some other positions

Promote Big Shirley!

He had 4 catches the first game. Just didn't get a chance yesterday. I think he could have made a difference on 3rd down.

I think it'd be a great story if Cosby came back and made strong contributions. He's a good cover guy on STs, too. That said, I do like Andrew Hawkins... just hope if they bring a WR, it's not Calvin Russell. He didn't show anything, IMO.

Maybe TJ (no ninja)? Reportedly, he's working out with what's-his-name.
All three players on IR (Muck, Scaife, and Shipley) are Texas alums. The only other player on the roster from UT is Cedric Benson...
Around the leage, Jamaal Charles was lost for the season yesterday too... Plus Vince Young is hurt and didn't play last night when Vick got injured, and Bryan Orakpo was hurt yesterday too (not seriously, sounds like)... and Ced played, but wasn't great. So, not a great day for ex-Longhorns, although Colt McCoy had a pretty good game.

With wide receiver Jordan Shipley on season-ending IR with a torn ACL, Lewis said Andre Caldwell has already been splitting snaps with Shipley and quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese said he didn't expect any dropoff at the slot receiver given Caldwell's experience.

With the worst expected on Shipley’s knee, the Bengals look to be mulling some options. They could promote Andrew Hawkins from the practice squad and it would then be assumed that rookie receiver Ryan Whalen would be active on game day for the first time. Or Quan Cosby could be an option after spending the two previous seasons with the Bengals primarily as their punt returner. He was cut when they claimed wide receiver/returner Brandon Tate on waivers at the beginning of the season. Lewis wouldn't say Monday how the Bengals would fill the roster spot.
