The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will interview former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress for their head coaching position on Monday, sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Tampa Bay will also interview Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and a source told ESPN.com senior NFL writer John Clayton that the meeting will happen Friday.

"I'm gratified somebody noticed," Phillips told the Houston Chronicle. "We'll talk and see how much interest (Tampa Bay) has in me. I'm torn. I don't want to leave Houston. I love it here. But I'd like to get a chance to be a head coach again."
Phillips has transformed Houston's defense this season and is one of the main reasons for the Texans' first AFC South championship and first trip to the playoffs. He has been a head coach in Denver, Buffalo and Dallas.

Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer is also a candidate, sources said, along with former Green Bay Packers and Texas A&M coach Mike Sherman, who interviewed last week.

One source told Clayton last week that the team was also scheduled to interview current Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray regarding the opening.

The Bucs fired Raheem Morris on Monday after three seasons. Morris went 17-31, including a 10-6 mark in 2010, when the Bucs narrowly missed the playoffs. His entire staff of assistants was dismissed, too.

I'm guessing they'd go for Phillips. Childress? LOL I mean...maybe he had some time to reevaluate how things were going there. Sometimes people in top positions like that just need a kick in the ass to realize you can't be an asshole ALL of the time. 2nd go around I bet he has more success with his players.

I wouldn't put Childress any higher than OC for any team. He was abused by his own players like Dave Shula

I think I'd put Phillips and Sherman ahead of Zimmer. Phillips has done a terrific job in Houston, and I still can't believe Sherman ever got fired in Green Bay. Winning record, loads of NFC North titles, and a couple of playoff wins. Then he had that bad 2005 when his offensive line couldn't sop my mother from killing Rodgers, and poof!

Not a great slate there... Some retread HCs who are likely better coordinators, and coordinators who haven't been head coaches.

Wade has done a great job, but as head coach in Dallas, he lost the team and some guys just didn't play hard for him. Really nice guy, great DC, jus not sure there's another HC spot coming for him. I'd hate to see Zim go, but I think he deserves a shot.

But for a TB team that's reeling, and Raheem Moorris himself a former DC who lost the team, I'm guessing that Zim might not be the guy they want to sell to their fan base.

I heard the Bucs are in need of a "disciplinarian". I don't know if Zim is that behind the scenes, but the fire-y exterior would lend something to that. He deserves a shot somewhere.

This....

I live in Tampa Bay and local sports radio have suggested exactly this. R. Morris was said to have been caught going out for drinks with his players, they would show up late to meetings and sometimes not at all. The Glazer's (no relation to Jay) have been quoted as saying they want a hard nosed coach to come in and clean things up. Zim appears to fit that description. I hope he isnt gone, because I really feel like they will give him a few new weapons in the early rounds of this draft to help shore up some huge weaknesses.

Wade Phillips does not fit that.

It seems that the success of new coaches is a little better than retreads. But Bucs just went for a young, first time coach...either way I don't think it is a bad thing or Zimmer to go. We have a lot of pieces to work with in the front seven...give he new dc some secondary help though.

Bengals DC Mike Zimmer talking to Dolphins today. Falcons OC Mike Mularkey likely down there this week, too. [s]#[/s]insideslant

I know Parcells isn't with the Dolphins any more, but Parcells really likes Zim and I'm sure vouches for him. I think Jeff Ireland (head personnel guy) is still there, and he was with the Cowboys and knows Zimmer well, too.
My concern is the talent here learning a new scheme, not so much whom is calling the shots. Hopefully Zim decides to hang out a year or two longer.

If Del Rio gets the job, I dont think there will be a huge change in scheme.

not saying it would happen here, but its not unprecedented for a new guy to be brought in but asked to run the system already in place.
