coup000
Anyone who thinks Zim leaving will somehow be a positive for us is crazy. Our defense was 9th in scoring D, 7th in total YPG, and 8th in YPA rushing. That was with a secondary full of guys who were either on the street or available for very little. A LB crew of 2 relatively unwanted OLB's and a MLB who most here seem to agree sucks. He has plenty of talent on the Dline but lets not pretend like had multiple 1st round picks on that line, many of those guys have developed under Zimmer. He took a bunch of generally unwanted guys and turned them into a top 10 D 2 of out of his 3 years here. Do you guys not remember what we had prior to Zimmer?? It can get much, MUCH worse and it most likely would if Zimmer left.

Not to mention, it may just take some new coaching blood and a little different scheme to really take the D to the next level (along with a few new pieces). If we signed some random coach, I'd be worried.

Lewdog
I think I was one of the first to mention Del Rio's name, though I think it would be better if MArvin went into the front office and Del Rio was HC. What about Singletary as a replacement for Zimmer? He's a guy with some intensity and would make the guys put their balls on the line every play. That's what this team needs. Look what he did for Vernon Davis. He turned him into the player he was supposed to be.

So, I'm not sure how good a coach he is... All I remember about him is how tough he is working out NFL prospects... he has a routine he runs them through that's reportedly a meat grinder.
