bengaled
After four seasons with the Houston Texans, Okoye signed with the Chicago Bears in 2011. Last season the defensive tackle generated 21 quarterback pressures, six hits on the quarterback and four quarterback sacks. During his final season with the Texans in 2010, Okoye pressured the quarterback 20 times, nine of which resulted in hits with another 3.5 quarterback sacks. Needs less to say Okoye is a pass rusher, who could be used in situational passing downs alongside Geno Atkins. Am I missing something with Okoye? That type of production in rotational role just got Rucker and Fanene starters money in Cleveland and NE. I will be thrilled if they could sign him. A potential Dline of: Geathers / Dunlap Peko / Sims Atkins / Okoye Johnson / Anderson And a 9th guy potentially either Harvey / Roth / Draft pIck.
i feel the same way. and i laugh at the reporter as he suggests okoye would be used to give geno a blow. fuck that... he'd be playing right alongside him running games against their OL! just imagine dunlap, okoye, geno, and mike johnson coming full bore during passing downs. gatorclaws
Okoye would be a good signing for the Bengals but he'd start out as the 4th DT. That's not a career reviving spot. If he has other teams interested too, the Bengals are unlikely to sign him since we've got 3 guys ahead of him.
We've likely got one of the best rotations though. Unless another team wants him to come in as a starter, our situation is very attractive.
no, not at all. are you facing a passing offense, one who throws on 1st down? if you are okoye's in the game at LDT. since the league is moving to a more passing league, guess who ends up playing the most snaps at that very same LDT position? yeah, the same guy. Lewdog
Honestly the way I would look at Okoye is an older player coming out of college this year and looking to start fresh in the NFL. I wouldn't even think of him as a prior draft bust that hasn't lived up to his potential. Think more of a talented guy who's potetntial has yet to be tapped. Bengals1181
something to keep in mind (that certainly can change, especially with the change in the emergency QB roster spot)): While typically they've kept 4 DT's on the roster, they only usually dress 3 of them on gameday. They could go several different ways with it, especially now with new guys with different strengths. Okoye is certainly an upgraded DT from when they had Shirley and McDonald riding the bench. Just adding some perspective on what they've done in the past.
those two will make things interesting. Wouldn't shock me to see them carry only 4 DE's (rather than the typical 5) so that they could go one heavy at LB, with both evans and moch making the team as pass rushing LB's. I think the magic number for the front 7 will stay at 15, but they've got a lot of flexibility right now in how they choose to fill those 15 spots.
Yes, they used to rotate at DT but mostly on passing downs only until Sims went down. At that time they started doing it on running downs as well which hurt our run D along with rey playing on bad ankle. If they do end up signing him then I would assume they would activate Sims when they are playing more run oriented team like pitt/baltimore and activate a DE/LB for passing teams with Okoye always being active... blueridge
NESN says Broncos,Bucs, and Patriots have shown some interest in Okoye, although only the Bengals have a visit scheduled with him. The "bust" tag is irrelevant now, since Houston is the team that made Okoye a top 10 pick. He has turned out to be an effective 3-tecnique in a d-line rotation. BlackBengal
This guy is terrible. I don't understand why people are excited about him. At least the other first round busts we signed this offseason were great college players. So there is at least a chance that they could turn it around. Okoye wasnt even a dominant player in the terrible Big East.
