Amobi Okoye was supposed to visit the Bengals but he signs with Bucs instead

Recommended Posts

I read that the Bengals are going to host Amobi Okoye for a visit. I really hope that we sign him and if we do I would be very very happy with our free agent pick ups. I have wanted Okoye since he was drafted out of Louisville by the Texans. He is still young and I think Zimmer can get a lot more out of him than he has already shown..

are u chicks done? ok.

so what about Okoye? is he worth picking up or is he a draft bust?
Definitely worth picking up! He's best suited for the type of role the Bengals would be giving him on defense. I think POTENTIALLY and HOPEFULLY he could be a nice reserve to Genostacks.

yea.. you're definitely slow.... :D

as for Okoye... I say do it... the dude is still young and is pretty talented. it probably wouldn't cost a shitload either....

Bengals to visit with Amobi Okoye

Posted by Evan Silva on March 26, 2012, 1:21 PM EDT

Adam Caplan reports that the Bengals have scheduled a free agent meeting with defensive tackle Amobi Okoye.

The visit will take place following this week’s NFL owners meetings.

Okoye, who’s still only 24 years old, tallied four sacks off the bench for the Bears last season. In Cincinnati, he could spell starting “three-technique” tackle Geno Atkins when Atkins needs a breather. The Bengals’ other defensive tackles are Domata Peko, Pat Sims, and Nick Hayden.

Okoye is the No. 99 overall player on the PFT Hot 100.

After four seasons with the Houston Texans, Okoye signed with the Chicago Bears in 2011.
Last season the defensive tackle generated 21 quarterback pressures, six hits on the quarterback and four quarterback sacks. During his final season with the Texans in 2010, Okoye pressured the quarterback 20 times, nine of which resulted in hits with another 3.5 quarterback sacks.
Needs less to say Okoye is a pass rusher, who could be used in situational passing downs alongside Geno Atkins.

Am I missing something with Okoye? That type of production in rotational role just got Rucker and Fanene starters money in Cleveland and NE. I will be thrilled if they could sign him. A potential Dline of:

Geathers / Dunlap
Peko / Sims
Atkins / Okoye
Johnson / Anderson

And a 9th guy potentially either Harvey / Roth / Draft pIck.

the only thing I can think of is asking price. Not sure what he made with the bears, but he had re-done his deal in Houston before becoming a cap casualty if I'm not mistaken. He had a pretty good season last year so I wouldn't think its play. Maybe an unknown injury.

No, it's pretty clearly sarcastic since the OP said he read it.

I can only guess that the guy was being an asshole instead of requesting a link of where the thread starter read it.

Perhaps the thought is that he's been helped by the other guys on the line - Mario Williams in Tex and Peppers & those guys at the Bears.

If the.Bengals truly want to show more 3-4 looks I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Harvey and Roth on the 53 and we'd keep 8 d-line and two DE/LB

At 24 and on his third team, I expect Okoye, being the smart young man he is, to pick the team that he thinks will give him the best chance to revive his career. I think that's going to be the Bengals.

Okoye would be a good signing for the Bengals but he'd start out as the 4th DT. That's not a career reviving spot. If he has other teams interested too, the Bengals are unlikely to sign him since we've got 3 guys ahead of him.
