Seriously, if you want to bitch about Mike Brown, here's the site:

Mike Brown Sucks

The rest of the real fans here are sick and fucking tire of listening to your leaking vaginas dripping all over the floor.

We may have lost a key player which sucks, but that does not give you carte blanche to shit all over yet another thread with your tired tripe.

Find something else to whine about or GTFO.

A-fucking-men

I thought this was a magic thread from like 1998

Right now, you have no fucking idea what their contingency plan is, you've just decided that you want to be a whining bitch, and complain. Could you please just STFU!

I am sure the Bengals would love to sign Faine if is makes sense LONG TERM. We don't need Daniel Snyder running the team. Overpays for players all the time with little regard to the long term effect it will have on his roster.

I'm guessing they're priorities are like this:

1) Someone who can come in right away and compete for the starting center job

2) A vet that will also help bring Robinson along even though he's competing with him.

3) Someone who can also backup guard

As for why Faine hasn't signed yet, may be different reasons. Maybe didn't pass his physical, maybe hasn't taken one yet, may want too much money, they may be working on a trade and waiting on Faine, may just not have liked him.

Based on what I just read on bengals.com, it sounds like they are determining the extent of the injury on Cook before making a move. Regardless, something needs to be done. Options include Faine but are not limited to Faine. They could trade (would almost be required since they are number 21 in the waiver order). The article mentions that Baltimore was 27 last year and we were 4 in the waiver order and we claimed two guys that Baltimore wanted. Lucky for us. We don't have that advantage this year.

Exactly. You just don't sign a guy 10 minutes after he tries out unless you have already settled on price and he is a fit. I seriously doubt they had even talked price before he showed up at PBS and we have no idea how the try out went anyways from what I understand.

Bengals C Kyle Cook has significant foot injury

August 28, 2012

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Bengals center Kyle Cook could be lost for the season because of a foot and ankle injury, the second significant setback to Cincinnati's offensive line during the preseason.

Cook hurt his right foot and ankle when a defender fell on it during a preseason game on Thursday night. He didn't think it was a severe injury at first and stayed in the game.

He showed up at Paul Brown Stadium on Monday expecting to practice. Doctors sent him for precautionary X-rays and an MRI that found a more significant problem. He had a protective boot on his right foot on Tuesday in the locker room.

"Obviously I'm not going to play in this game (Thursday at Indianapolis) and my status is unclear as far as the year goes," Cook said.

The Bengals (No. 14 in the AP Pro32) already have lost left guard Travelle Wharton for the season with a knee injury suffered in the preseason opener. Their backup at center is rookie Trevor Robinson, signed as an undrafted free agent from Notre Dame. He played guard in high school and college, but the Bengals moved him to center during training camp.

Asked on Tuesday when he last played center regularly, Robinson said, "Uh, last week?"

"I never played center in high school, in college, so it's new since I've been here," Robinson said.

The Bengals also have a rookie starting at right guard -- Kevin Zeitler, taken with the 27th overall pick in the draft. The injuries leave Cincinnati with little experience in the middle of the line, something they'll likely look to fix as teams make their final roster cuts this week.

Cook has started the past 50 regular-season games for Cincinnati, last missing a game in 2008 when he had a dislocated toe on his left foot.

"That was a fluke thing too," Cook said. "That was a dislocated toe that ended up keeping me out for the whole year and to tell you the truth, that felt a lot worse than this feels. So it's just one of those things. You play football, things get bent, broken, bruised. Just part of the game."

Cook wore a T-shirt with the word "Unfair" on the front, summing up the moment.

"I (was) blocking somebody and a defender trying to make a tackle fell on the back of my leg," Cook said. "Happens all the time. It's happened many times in my career thus far. But it's just one of those things."

Bengals' Kyle Cook discusses injury

Center's status undetermined

Kyle Cook walked into the locker room on Tuesday wearing a black shirt that had “unfair” written on it along with a boot on his right foot. For Bengals fans, that would fit their sentiments.

The fifth-year center’s long-term status remains in doubt due to an ankle injury he suffered in last Thursday’s loss to Green Bay. Coach Marvin Lewis said after practice that the severity is still being assessed. There is a possibility it could be season-ending but indications are it isn’t broken.

Said Lewis of the injury: “We have to explore some options because we don't know how much time he’ll miss. He's trying to figure out what the best options are for him as well.

“All I know is he’s not able to play this week and then we’ll have to evaluate from there.”

Cook injured his ankle early in the first half of last Thursday’s game against Green Bay. He was on the practice field and had a boot on Friday and Sunday but was not on the field on Monday.

When he came to the stadium on Monday, Cook said he had every intention of practicing but that plan was scrapped after visiting with foot specialists.

“I got rolled up blocking somebody and a defender trying to make a tackle fell on the back of my leg. Happens all the time,” he said. “It’s happened many times in my career thus far. But it’s just one of those things.”

The injury to Cook is the second serious one to the offensive line during the preseason. Travelle Wharton suffered a season-ending knee injury against the Jets on Aug.10. When Wharton went down, they had Clint Boling on deck. That’s not the case with Cook, and it’s why Jeff Faine, who has nine years in the league with Cleveland, New Orleans and Tampa Bay, visited Cincinnati on Tuesday.

Faine has worked in a Gruden-based offense. His first year with the Bucs was 2008, Jon Gruden’s final year with the team. Jay Gruden was an assistant.

“Anytime you have an opportunity to work with a guy that knows what you do, knows you and has some experience playing in these kind of situations it’s usually in your favor if that person is up to it,” Lewis said.

Boling was the backup at center last season but Lewis ruled out the possibility of moving him there.

Undrafted rookie Trevor Robinson will get the start for Thursday’s preseason finale at Indianapolis. At Notre Dame, Robinson played in 48 games with 40 starts, but that was all at guard.

Robinson has not been a center in either high school or college.

“It is kind of all new since I’ve been here,” Robinson said. “But, you know, offensive line play is all kind of similar across the front, it’s just little bit of intricacies to it that I’ve tried to pick up but it’s coming pretty well.”

Robinson has already received plenty of mentoring from Cook along with working with Andy Dalton and the rest of the quarterbacks. He has made significant progress, but the prospects of going into the season with two rookies (Kevin Zeitler and Robinson) and a second-year player with only five NFL games (Boling) going into a Monday Night opener in Baltimore would be enough to make most people wince.

The Bengals could assess things after Friday’s final round of cuts and see what is available on the waiver wire. There also is a possibility for a trade since the team has made six deals in the past two years.

The last time the offensive line had a run of injuries like this was 2008, when three starters ended up on injured reserve during the regular season. Lewis thinks that this group is better equipped than that one.

I'm dying to know the specifics of the injury but I have a feeling the Bengals are playing this close to the vest for a good reason. Something along the lines of not tipping their hand to an FA like Faine or other teams as to the severity of the injury to Cook in order to keep the cost/committment level down.

FFS this sucks though. Having three guys in the middle of the line (which was a weakness last season that we supposedly upgraded) that are all new to the team kinda sucks.

me to, especially since I read the other day that it happened early in the game, and Cook played all the way into the 3rd quarter with the starters and was ready to practice Monday.

How can something so serious feel like such a minor thing?

I feel the same way. Perhaps he's risking some typ of long-term health issue if he plays through the pain. Part of me is like "C'mon, Kyle! Take the needle in the foot 16 times for us, bro!". But its not our body, so...yeah.

Here's what runs through my head in all of this.

1. I have to believe they would prefer a guy who's been in a camp and playing in the preseason games. They are in shape, getting loads of snaps, and can come right in and start hitting. A trade or waiver claim, in my opinion, would have to be the top priority.

2. Since a guy like Faine can't hit or play until after the last preseason game, and his value is highest before waiver cuts, I would hold off on signing him out of panic. Signing him on Sunday works just as well.

3. Financially speaking, it makes a lot more sense to sign a guy like Faine after the season has started and his full year salary is no longer guaranteed (unless the new CBA changed that). If Cooke gets carried on the roster, and can come back mid season, it's tough to pay a veteran a full season's games for 6-8 games.

#1 and #2 are important points. If they make a trade today, that guy can play tomorrow against the Colts. Faine can't.

If MB won't cut a guy because of a guaranteed salary of less than a million, then the guys bitching about him are right. You do what you need to do to get through this crisis and if it passes and you need the roster spot you cut the guy and hope that he played well enough to justify the full seasons salary.

I think you agree from your earlier comments, but the issue is when a few posters just assume it is because of money. Like on this thread if Faine isn't signed, MB is a cheap bastard according to 1 or 2 posters. But I think many on here have done a great job of presenting the multitude of reasons that will go into the Bengals decision.
