Jamie_B
'Gun culture' is the catch phrase for those that prefer a 'Police State.' It's political idiom warfare.
riiiiiiight
A more literal translation of 'Police State' than I was intending with the analogy, but there's some truth to it. The point was that jackasses on one side of the argument flock to the term 'Gun Culture' to describe an unenlightened, cro-mag, group of yahoos who want to shoot everything they can't fuck. Conversely, jackasses from the other side of the argument use the term 'Police State' to describe a castrated, pacified society that does as it's told by government and enforcers of law. Neither term is particularly accurate, but people just love to use those terms to draw their line in the sand.

alwaysabengal
When I was growing up burglery was very rare. People didn't break in because they knew just about everyone had a gun & they would get there azz shot. If I wanted to watch a political comentary, I would not be watching a football game. T-Dub
To be fair, I think his intentions were less political commentary and more "Look at me! I'm on television! I have opinions on stuff and what I think is very important!"

MichaelWeston
Meh. It's just a self-righteous "guns are bad, m'kay" circlejerk by Whitlock. If an NFL linebacker wants to kill his girlfriend, lack of a gun isn't going to stop him.
It's going to slow him down.
MichaelWeston
Exactly. People dont seem to get that. Murder didn't come about with the advent of guns, it just became a little easier. If you want to kill, you will use whatever you want. At the time of the second amendment, the same arms were available to both citizens and government (for the most part)... Yeah, times have changed drastically and the people would have a tough time defending against 21st century technology... however, its still nice to have some kind of a fighting chance instead of being relegated to just roll over. Besides, if shit really hit the fan, it would be nice to be able to protect yourselves from the roving bands of thug mercenaries. Kind of like modern day Detroit. MichaelWeston
The idea that he would have found a way to kill her with or without guns is just flat out rationalization by people who want to have the ability to have guns. The lethality of something surely matters in cases like this. If you lower the lethality you lengthen the time....even if its just seconds or minutes...... to rethink what you are doing. Those seconds give your emotions time to balance out. The finality of a gun and a baseball bat are huge factors here. I am not anti gun. I am anti gun freaks.
