It isn't like Byron Murphy is just a pass rusher, he has some quality run defender traits too...

Murphy plays with terrific leverage and has the lower body strength that gives him a strong base as a run defender. His relentless motor and short-area quickness cause him to be a major factor when pursuing a play laterally.

Sold.

If the Bengals favor Murphy over Sweat

I'm good with it.

Decent company. Team captain. NFL pedigree.

He doesn't seem to get a lot of pub like some others, but he'd be a good get on day 2. He was a big part of the Michigan D... well-rounded player.

I’d love a double up of Jenkins and Hall Jr. on day two. Completely kick Zach Carter out of the rotation.

That would be quite the haul. I’m definitely on board.

I like Murphy, Jenkins and to an extent Hall but they all seem to be 3techs

We already have BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins in those roles.

Just curious why the gloating over more of the same.

I’ve been saying the guy is a mid round pick since December and I didn’t even know about the class clown shit. Go figure 🤷‍♂️

Party Animal is one thing, class clown is not a negative, you can be a class clown and still take your job seriously.

Agree, those guys are all 3Techs, but keep in mind that BJ Hill is a FA after this year and Rankins is only here for 2 years. Adding a 3Tech in Addition to a NT would be idea. Then we can let Zach Carter go

Bottom line is we would not be in this position if we could draft DT better than we have in recent years. Both Carter and Shelvin are busts.

"Party Animal".

Is this guys assessment based on the DUI or other problems as well?

I just find that moniker as extreme and unjust...

I'm starting to think DE Joseph Ossai

Is close to that as well..

Ossai at least has produced when he has been healthy, that's mainly his problem.

This is year 4 for Ossai..(already)

Even if he performs well his agent

will be looking for mega bucks for him.

His agent is the same as Jesse Bates.

Would Katy be thinking another DE pass rusher may be needed sooner than anticipated?

Maybe. One year of production doesnt mean he's getting a huge payday.

And those monikers are coming from a media hack, and not teammates or coaches

BJ Hill and Sheldon Rankins are starting and taking a majority of the snaps this year - so they clearly don’t care about the “roles”. They need more talented bodies and there aren’t any draft able A gap players out there besides Murphy and Sweat and I’d bet my bottom dollar Sweat isn’t even in the conversation until day 3 at this point.

If they are serious about A gap alignment then it has to be Byron Murphy. If not - they just need to get more able bodies to rotate. They don’t have to line anyone up in the A gap if they don’t want to. They could run a wide alignment with two guys in the 2 alignment and two guys in the 5 alignment and give up the middle of the field but take away the edges and have the linebackers aligned in the A gap.

They tried to resign Reader AND bring in Rankins. So I'm not sure I agree.

Did they? Because judging from the guy who runs DJ’s charity events - the offer was “disrespectful” and they could have very easily allocated the Rankins money to bringing DJ back instead. They also let Tart leave without an offer. Maybe they have a plan - but as of right now I can’t see it being anything that involves an A gap player outside of Murphy and Murphy being there is dicey at best.

I think there’s a chance they could pursue a guy who gets dropped prior to training camp - but would be shocked if two more bodies aren’t added to the room in the draft. It reeks of them either adjusting scheme and running a wider alignment to counter browns wide zone/Lamar or Rankins running the A gap.

Who's gloating?

As was said in another post, Rankins is here one year, Hill is on last year of his contract, Carter sucks. Improved depth is needed. And since when can you ever have enough guys that can heat up the passer?

I wouldn’t be so sure. Brugler has been in this game for a long time and is one of the best in the biz. He’s likely more plugged in than just about any of them.

What they valued DJ at and what DJ thought he was valued at was obviously different, but that doesn't mean they didn't make an attempt. As far as Tart goes he obviously wasnt a fit for the, but the fact they brought him in at all should tell you they desire a big body NT type.

I mean Teair Tart and Sheldon Rankins are the same size. Rankins has plenty of A gap experience. I’m pretty sure Rankins was signed to take the majority of the snaps in the A gap for the team this year.
