CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A new deal between the Cincinnati Bengals and Ja’Marr Chase is close, the star wide receiver told media Friday.

He told reporters Friday that his deadline for a new contract was Friday, and “Who knows what’s going to happen.”

That comment was after he said, “We’re pretty close” on his sought-after deal.

Whether or not Chase will play against the New England Patriots appears to be up in the air.

Chase himself said he would play Sunday even if he doesn’t have a new contract by kickoff. He added that he considers himself a game-time decision.

Head coach Zac Taylor did not offer a more clear answer, saying, “We’ll see,” when asked if Chase will play Week 1.

Chase, who returned to practice just two days ago, wants a new long-term contract. With no deal in place, he has set out a majority of Bengals practices.

Chase told reporters he could “probably” play 40 or 50 offensive snaps if he is on the field against New England.

I felt the same when it looked like he was going to keep sitting out but so long as he's working with the team and plays hard I DGAF about the contract stuff 

Something I've been tossing around in the New England thread.

 

Ja'Marr Chase and BJ Hill to Washington for Daron Payne, Noah Brown and a 1st rounder.

 

Rework Payne's contract to fit under the cap this year.  Daron Payne solves our NT issue and slide Rankins over to the 3tech DT spot.

BJ Hill is going to be a FA next year anyways and including him in the trade creates cap space needed to bring in Daron Payne.

 

Noah Brown is no Chase but he's decent enough to ease the pain a little and is only getting paid $1.2 million this year.  

 

The 1st round pick from Washington is at best a top 5 pick, at worst a top 10 pick.  Roll into next year with that pick and our own 1st rounder.

Thing is, Chase says it's HIS decision whether he plays or not.  So it's not assured he's going to play game one.

Burrow and Chase are a packaged deal and always have been. I am sure they promised Burrow as much when he was extended.

I'm also sure the Bengals told Burrow they would extend Chase.  Even Chase stated that the Bengals HAVE bent over backwards to make it happen

like Mike Brown stated so it's CHASE who is refusing to accept the offer.  It's not like the Bengals HAVEN'T tried!  That's on Chase, NOT the Bengals!

With Tee doutbul for Sunday, I just don't see Ja'Marr sitting Sunday. I think he feels too great a responsibility toward his teammates to let them take the field w/o their top 2 receivers. I don't know how he feels about responsibility to his teammates but like you say he is under contract.  He's already committed a PR "faux pas," as you say

by admitting the Bengals have "bent over backwards," like Mike Brown said they would and yet he still hasn't signed an extension.

As for Carman, I wasn't defending him.  I thought people celebrating him getting cut was ridiculous because he's a human being who got fired and generally that's not something most people celebrate, but I guess because he plays for your favorite football team it makes it ok...whatever that's weird.

Jackson didn't draft himself in the 2nd round nor switch his positions 3 times within 3 years so the Bengals share just as much blame for his lack of success as Jackson does. Also, the Bengals haven't developed a single OL that they drafted in the past 5 years, Volson is the only starter they drafted and he's the weak link on the offensive line..so maybe, just maybe the Bengals org doesn't know how to scout, draft, or develop offensive line talent.

Which WR would you say was more talented? Chad himself admits Ja'Marr is better than him. 

You highlighted the start then go on to say by the end he eclipses them all.  It's also possible he suffers a career ending injury

as well.  So it's hypothetical.  So while Chad admits Ja'Marr is better, hypothetically he might not have the same results when it's 

all said and done.  A.J. Green was no slouch either.
