  1. I want nothing to do with a RB who has never played a full season with starting RB reps and who has had a major knee AND ankle injury in the last 3 years with the 3rd season cut short from yet another injury. There's got to be a better option.

  2. Tee and Jamarr contracts are very possible. There will be very little overlap. Tee is at most getting a four year extension and Jamarr has 4th year and 5th year option to play on before his extension will even kick in. The Burrow contract guarantees are very front loaded giving them the ability to convert salary to signing bonus down the line as well. It’s literally about the guaranteed money and the Bengals unwillingness to guarantee outside of year 1. Something they’ve only done for Joe Burrow. Do they have the liquid cash to put that into escrow? Once they open that door for non-quarterback, there is no going back.

  3. I do know it, I would be insane to argue otherwise. Hell I will go even further. They haven't been as good since Ogunjobi left. In fact lets make this even more of a thing. Cam Taylor Britt is the one good player this team has drafted under Lou in the past 3 years. The rest are a bunch of wait and sees. See why I think resigning Tee long term might not be the best idea? Because if we aren't drafting well on defense we might have to go out in FA and get guys.

  4. The biggest issue that needs fixing, by far, is the defense. I understand that offense gets more attention and everyone loves shiny toys but the stats don’t lie. The Bengals defense was 31st in total yards allowed (28th against the pass, 26th against the run) and 21st in points allowed. That’s bottom third of the league and not even close to being good enough to compete for a Super Bowl. Everything hinges on turning it around or it won’t matter what a healthy Burrow does.

  5. I dont need a calculator. The Bengals would have two years of big cap allocation for these guys with a multitude of vet contracts expiring. I mean if you name a vet outside of OBJ, their contract is probably up within the next two years and the Jamarr extension won’t kick in for three years. It’s not about paying two receivers whether people agree with that or not. The Bengals want to pay them both. They don’t want to guarantee out years. Same as it was with Jessie. They made an aggressive offer but the guarantees weren’t good enough.

  6. I'm starting to think he should be starting TBH.

  7. To my eyes it looks like a frequent lack of effort. Just kinda out there doing the bare minimum unless he gets the ball. Like what you might expect from a guy who thinks he's untouchable and can do (or not do) whatever he wants. Weird, huh?

  8. These fools haven't even considered the smiles! No one has mentioned Dobbins smiling so hard pass. I bet he doesn't even make fingerguns at the RB coach after he whiffs on yet another blocking assignment. Forget it.

  9. I don't share this optimism. It's the draft, odds are at least one of them will be average at best at the NFL level. Nothing against them individually just how it goes with draft picks. This scenario also means waiting until the 3rd round or later to draft OL. This team can't afford to do that.

  10. I want Higgins here but paying JB Chase and him that massive amount of money isn't going to happen. They should tag and trade him and put his money into other positions of need. JB doesn't need 2 WR1s to succeed. Just too damn much money invested imo.

  11. Good luck to him, would have liked to see him in the UFL, I don't watch much CFL

  12. The leaping tiger and the head are good logos, but they'd be better if they'd turn them around to face the same direction as almost every other logo in sports (except for the Eagles, who do the same thing). Yes, they look a bit odd, but only because we've been used to them being backwards for so long.

  15. At 18? I don't know think so.

  16. RT and Sweat even if we have to go up to get him in 1 and 2 are my ideal scenarios. If they address those in FA, it's a different discussion. I'm just not sure there is good talent in FA for either position. Reader is it at NT, and he is coming of an injury and aging.

  17. All that speed and route running will help when an aggressive corner blasts him into next week off the line. Nobody pushes Tee around
    1 point
  18. Not big on Hall and don't know why exactly. Maybe his small stature 6'2 280lbs. We need a NT . Tony Franklin is 6'3 187lbs. Slight frame but 4.35 speed and has route running ability.

  19. Exactly. His first two years were fully guaranteed and $36M. The Bengals were never going to come close to that and is exactly the same situation we are seeing with Tee right now. Reggie Nelson walked due to age/third contract. Not because they didn’t value safety. Bates/Hill/Battle have all been day 1/2 picks.
    1 point
  20. The Bengals have never valued the S position enough to pay them top dollar, it's why they let Reggie Nelson go too. Same with the OG position. There are certain positions the team is willing to pay money for and certain ones they are only going to go so far on. They were never going to pay Jessie what the Falcons did

  21. Let me put this this way Sport Trac two guys who I think are likely going to be tagged this year, Tee already being tagged, and Justin Madubuke likely getting it. What they think their market value is Tee 4 yrs, $74,405,184 Avg. Salary: $18,601,296 Justin 4 yrs, $81,287,936 Avg. Salary: $20,321,984 If I had to choose I would take a All Pro DT over a WR2 that plays like WR1, when you already have WR1 that is a top 5 WR, and I don't think that is a hard choice to make. And I love Tee The money for both of those guys is close enough that I think it's a good comparison.

  22. Hell no. I want to keep Jamar long term and either keep Tee for this year only or trade him. Or if we do keep him long term maybe get better at scouting by expanding the scouting department so that we can have great players at other spots too. Yes we completely agree that we need to do better than what Pollack has given us. Maybe Rascati can help, but if not I hope they consider finding a better Oline coach or guys who scout the Oline better, because that is the one thing holding us back on the O side of the ball.

  24. I should have said a combined $110 mil rather than 55 but the point remains. KC got extra draft picks by trading Hill. Are you suggesting we do the same with Uno? I'm in favor of your idea of running the ball better, with the QB under center more. I'm also in favor of replacing Pollack with a new O-line coach though it's likely too late for that now. When Bill Callahan left the Browns to work with his son, I think the assistant there left Cleveland too. We should have hired him. Maybe Rascati can help our O-line this year. We have plenty of resources this offseason to add talent so there's no reason we can't aim for a Super Bowl win in 2024.

  25. You know Jamie, you have convinced me. All draft, all the time. Pitch every proven player for roll-of-dice college players. Or recycled bridge FA’s. I’m not kidding either. Why? Because each year is its own universe. Don’t concern yourself with ‘25, when ‘24 will have enough challenges. And ‘26 is another dimension altogether. If this team could make a Super Bowl with a few FA purchases, developing draftees (including Saints Tee and Uno), and a Volkssturm right side of the offensive line, they can do it with this bunch. Maybe.

  26. You are making my point for me. If we do not want to start rookies, that means we either have to spend money FAs outside of the organization or draft really well so that guys are starting after their rookie year. You specifically have said we do not draft well (for Oline I agree other positions not as much) that means we would have to find guys in FA, who are going to cost more than guys on their rookie deals. Tyler, Reader, Cheedo, Williams and a bunch of cheap TEs leaving. Who do you replace them with? Hubbard and Hendrickson coming off soon. I'd assume/hope that Murphy steps into one of those spots, I'm hoping that Ossai can bounce back to take the other spot, but he hasn't earned it yet. Joes money hits next year, Jamar is going to get paid, Taylor Britt needs to be extended. If we do Tee long term and we use the money on him that we are getting back from the guys I listed then that means you're going to have to find replacements for the other guys and those replacements, having less money to spend because we spent it on Joe, Jamar, and Tee, means that the quality of FAs you are going to be able to get is going to be less because the FA asks are going to go up across the board. If DJ Reader was still the same age today as when we signed him, he would be asking for more money today then he did then. That's the inflation that is happening across the league. This means if we do not want to start rookies, we have to take bridge type FAs and get better at drafting. Letting Tee walk or trading him means we can use that money on a guy that might not be a bridge type FA. The Bengals and Jessie were not close because of contract guarantees, Jessie literally said he was leaving 20mil on the table if he stayed here, he just became one of the highest paid safties in league history, the Bengals were not close to doing that, he may have wanted more in guarantees but the overall money was not close, that's why they didn't extent him.

  27. It's not a matter of just changing it for Mixon, this also effects Burrow. When the linemen are not left on a island and can work together the blocking improved. When you can run play action pass it forces the defenders to take that extra second to have to think about what you are going to do, that effect the running game and the passing game. Ryan Clarke did a whole segment on this that I wish I could find. Let's put it this way, what do you think is easier replacing the Oline with guys that win one on one matchups or asking Joey B to run under center a bit more than normal? Nobody wants to be critical of Joes game around here and suggest he has more he can put in his toolbox. I'm saying it. Joe could be an all time great if he can add this to his game even if its only enough to make defenses guess more. They literally reworked his deal so it would be a 2 year deal, they could have done it so he would have gotten the money in 1 year, they didn't. He's not going to be cut.

  28. Here. Run the numbers and show me where we keep both long term. https://overthecap.com/calculator/cincinnati-bengals

  29. No that Oline, Volson and Williams both suck. Further we have seen the 3 free agents we signed literally go down in their numbers since getting here. Why the Bengals are insisting on keeping Pollack blows my mind.

  30. Finding a RB that can run out of the shotgun still doesn't solve the QB sack issue. You are still hacking at the branches and not the root.
    1 point
  31. Run plays out of the shotgun gives Joe Sixgun more time to waddle up to the like. and do a little dance before running into an O lineman and falling on his ass.

  32. Ok explain it to me like I am 5, because I literally dont get this. The pie is only so big, even if the cap is expanding that just means players are asking for more, it's inflationary. If we sign Tee and Jamar long term where does that minus come from? I get Tyler this yeara and Mixon next year, and that Reader is not currently on the books, But Burrow's contract hits next year, they are going to make Jamar the highest paid WR. We have the money for this this year because Jamar is not paid yet and Joe's contract hasn't hit yet, but if we still need to sign a RT and a DT and some TEs, what are the minuses that come off the books to keep Tee and Jamar here long term? Give me names. Sam Hubbard? Trey Hendrickson? Ok but we are still going to have to pay Tayor Britt and CBs arent cheap either. This is exactly my point here, if we pay Tee long term the "slice of the pie" for other guys long term becomes smaller, which literally means we are going to have to get a lot better at drafting when we are drafting in the teens to twenties, or thirties.

  33. According to PFF he pas blocked 8 times and had a grade of 26.7. About as low as you can get

  34. I really dont know what you don't get here. If you spend the money on Tee Jamar and Joe, it means you don't have as much money to spend on other positions This was literally your Dutch Boy complaint.

  39. 18-20 at most. This OT class is nowhere near as good as the draft gurus have made them out to be. Not saying guys won’t go early but I think most of them are going to struggle mightily if thrown out there right away.

  40. I looked up the highest rated blocking RBsi In last year's draft class. Top 3.. 1.Hunter Leipke.....80..Cowboys 2.Bijan Robinson. .60..Falcons 2.Chase Brown .....60..Bengals Maybe we have a blocking back this season.

  41. Just watched a clip video & he's back on his heels a lot in pass pro. Also grabbing a lot of jersey but IDK, in the current NFL that might be a good thing. A lot of wins by virtue of simply being bigger than the guy he's blocking.

  42. They'll be lucky to get a capable day one starter at either position, let alone fill both. Drafting for starters rarely works out & less so for linemen.

  43. ... He also had a Hall of Fame DT in Chris Jones. The expensive Blue Chips have to come from somewhere. There's many ways to win it all, and all of them are based on creating an advantage. The Bengals passing game could be that.

  44. Id like to see blocking grades on RBs this past season to see where Mixon slots in. It may not be as low as some think.

  45. Having 2 WR1s for Joe to throw to is the Bengals competitive advantage. It makes things easier on the other targets and means we'll have a WR1 with single coverage.

  46. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't CEH provide the same running skills as Brown? Aren't they looking for a thunderous type to go with Brown?
