  1. "They've Gotta Beat Us." What did the team learn last year? That they can win without Burrow. More important, they learned to do a few different things in order to win sans Burrow. Some of that stuff will show up as the next part of Burrow's game and the evolution of the offense. And they'll do it without compromising the stuff that Burrow likes to do best--which means we'll still see plenty of shotgun, 4 and 5 wide, etc... . So, they got Moss because he can block and run from the shotgun. They got Gesicki who is Boyd's replacement, imo. They got a tackle who will let Burrow be more comfortable in the pocket and have more time to do his magic. This off-season is about becoming more flexible on offense, imo, and they have done a pretty good job of it --on paper. Not bad moves on the defensive side of the ball, either. So, Fuck Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Baltimore--they've got to beat us.

  2. LOL. Comparing Jonah Williams to Trent Brown is laughable. Brown is a WAY better player. Zack Moss is light years better as a pass blocker so we don’t have to take him out on 3rd and 5 situations. Mixon is a terrible pass blocker. There is nothing unresolved about Tee Higgins, he will play under the franchise tag.

  4. IMO just seems like a position can CANNOT be weak at, so letting Dax learn is gonna ahve to come in blowouts and spot work, i can specifically remember 2-3 games where we needed one stop to get the ball back with a chance and gave up the play due to a CB or Safety shitting the bed (mainly cheeto) so the depth is great in case on injury and the talent boost is great. sucks for Dax's career trajectory, but we need to get a ring ASAP, so no hard feelings but no time for that right now.

  6. Charlie needs to get stronger, that’s for sure. And I remember the one long pass when he hesitated at the end of the route and that was disappointing. But remember, TB didn’t knock it out of the park starting out… really, his third year was when he broke out… and the crew that he was part of wasn’t as good with Jerome Simpson et al as the one Jones was brought into. No doubt he needs to improve but I’m not ready to say he can’t play, and be a solid contributor. But yeah, obviously this fall will be big for him.

  7. How anyone could defend the utter garbage that Mike Brown and family put on the field for 30 years by pretending the last 4 years was business as usual is laughable. In 33 years, Mike Brown, who INHERITED THE team is 223-303-4. In a league with a real salary cap, that is terrible. The Browns sat back, had the league negotiate every TV deal, every collective bargaining agreement, accepted their cut and didn’t do anything to promote the league. No effort necessary. 5 playoff wins in 33 years, all 5 of them coming in the last 3 years. ACCOMPLISHMENTS GALORE! Are the Walton heirs rocket scientists? Is Trump a genius? Paris Hilton extraordinary? No, they were born into wealth. We got LUCKY. Lucky as hell. Pure luck that Joe Burrow is a generationally great QB and we sucked so bad we had the first pick. Utter fucking luck. Lucky his knee got blown out (a little sarcasm) and we got Chase the next draft. He fell into their lap because the team absolutely sucked. I suffered thru almost 3 decades of shit, screw them. Don’t you remember the 90s and the Carson Palmer era shit show? The Chris Henry saga?

  8. If it’s not a 1st AND another pick, take a hike. Bengals benefit more by having Tee out there playing for them versus giving him up for a day 2 pick who is anything but a sure thing. Tee is a sure thing and I’d rather have him play this year (and maybe next as well) on the tag and get nothing in return down the road then give him up for a day 2 pick.

  10. So let me get this straight... Carolina gave us Vonn Bell and a 6th round draft choice and they are paying his salary to play for us. And they just signed Nik Scott, Are they playing for the first pick in the 2025 draft already? Never too early to tank? Some dumb sumbitches down there, boy howdy.

  11. Hi Tee Higgins Agent, Dumbass. Here's what we are going to do. Tag Tee this year and next. After that, he won't be worth nearly as much as a free agent. So we are going to offer a three year contract that is more per year then the franchise tag pays and a decent, comparable third year on the deal. Good money, job security in a place that loves Tee and shot at playoff and Super Bowl money to boot. Boom! And you can even borrow my pen, if you promise to give it back.

  12. But unless we meet them in the playoffs, we're not even scheduled to play the Bills or Texans this year. We do need to figure out how to beat the rest of the AFC North since that is six games of our schedule.
    4 points
  13. I’m not sure why that would stir anyone up. The Bengals do not match up well with the teams in the North. The teams in the north haven’t had the success in the playoffs the Bengals have had because they can’t throw the football and turn into mush when they get down two scores. The Bengals are content to try and go 3-3 or even 2-4 in the north and dog walk the rest of the league. Might cost them a bye/home field but they’ve beat the Chiefs and Bills on the road so I’m not sure that phases them at all. The moves they’ve made have been to stop explosive pass plays and run their offense out of 11. They are gearing up to beat the Chiefs/Bills/Texans not the Browns/Stealers/Ravens

  14. Hmmm…several Murphys and several Browns? We’d have to change the team mascot…

  15. Why even run the play? Spot the ball at the 30 and be done with it. At this point it's only an excuse to air 2-3 extra ad breaks while they sort out their latest goof shit.

  17. He's managed one full season in the past 5 years. Based on his average availability it works out to about half a mil per start. Until I know who will be playing RT the 2nd half of the season I'm gonna have to pump the brakes on all that backslapping just a bit.

  18. & then when handed this generational talent they let the likes of Jonah Williams play out of position to save $6-8M on the way to letting their franchise QB be the most-sacked QB in the NFL (for the 2 seasons he's managed to stay on the field.) Kinda like being handed a gold mine and building an outhouse over the mine shaft. I think the younger generation of ownership may have learned something from their past but the fact remains they're only in that ownership position due to a genetic lottery.

  19. This is the sort of thing that has me down on Pollack despite only having late-round picks to work with.* His OL very clearly does not like to employ wide zone concepts. They suck at wide zone concepts. Wide zone concepts send the QB to IR. Wide zone concepts can't run the ball effectively. Who gives a shit what the coaches like? A concept never blocked a blitzing LB. The system needs to fit the players they have, not some ideal roster in their heads.. Guessing this also tilts their draft board, overvaluing guys who fit this pet scheme instead of being flexible enough to take the BPA and adjust. He's gone after these smaller "athletic" linemen in the past that get absolutely ragdolled by AFCN DL's. Ditto Zac as our OC to an extent. At time he seems to be calling plays that only looked good on paper & don't seem to be playing to their strengths. Starting with the OL's inability to execute them, assuming as a group they do have strengths to play to hidden somewhere. *Carman is a notable exception as a 2nd round pick but the Bengals are not a good fit for a young player lacking motivation. This is a franchise where players can just show up and smile a lot or whatever & know they're going to play out their contracts. The coaches aren't scaring anybody because they're in that same boat no one seems willing to rock. Talked about it before, it's a cultural problem that I think stems from the nepotism. Regardless of why, lazy players & ineffective coaches both seem to feel comfortable here & Carman is only the latest example.

  20. Bengals should only trade Tee if, and only if, they are this >< close to signing a free agent or two and need the cap space. Otherwise, keep him and pay him the tag money. He's got more value than mere draft picks. I really want to see Tee, Chase, Gesicki, Hudson and one of the other receivers on the field at the same time. How do you defend against that?
    3 points
  21. If they are able to trade Tee Higgins and the 18th pick for Nabers, they should do it.

  22. How someone could look at that pic, and the first thought that comes to their mind is that she’s not fashionable? I would imagine alcohol and processed foods are a dietary staple for that individual. The world is filled with such dumbasses these days unfortunately. Grandpa down to granddaughters, accomplishments galore. Disciplined lifestyle in order to achieve what they have, positively influencing countless others to be ambitious and achievement oriented, yet the issue is with their fashion. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Go crack that beer and pop open more potato chips, it’s probably hopeless at this point. Oh yeah, don’t forget to sit on the recliner in front of the tv so your mind can be made up for you on how you should be thinking.

  29. This offseason they have demonstrated they really don’t care about trying to impose their will like the other north teams. Got smaller at tailback, aren’t willing to trade Tee, signed a tight end that lines up almost exclusively in the slot, signed a right tackle who excels at pass blocking, lost their best run defender, spent money on a split safety who doesn’t tackle well. Add it up and tell me if they’re gunning for the Ravens or the Chiefs. Im not saying I don’t want them to get pieces to match up better. I hate losing to those three teams and not even being competitive in half of them. But at the end of the day - they play well against teams outside of the AFCN, so its not like it isn’t working.

  30. Nobody is gonna wanna hear this. We play a last place schedule in the AFCN. The teams we have the most trouble with are the ones in our division. Last place doesnt mean much there. That's what we have to figure out, if we can win our division games everything else will take care of itself.

  31. To be fair, the Bengals have picked only one offensive lineman higher than the 4th round over the last 5 years and that was Carman at #46 in the second round. You are asking way too much of Pollack if all he gets are middle round picks and marginal or injury prone FAs. Kansas City has only one lineman chosen later than the 3rd round.

  32. Don't have a problem with any of that, the roster is a different subject. I'm simply tired of hearing the players reference a Super Bowl 2 years ago that they lost. They barely managed 9-8 last year. I think they could win one this season if they can lock it in and quit talking like they've already done it. Seem a little too up on themselves for a group that just lost every division game that mattered. Think Zac needs to sit them down day one of camp and give them a reality check. They were average last year. That's what all the yapping earns them.

  33. The NFLPA came out opposed to a penalty for this type of tackle . i think the NFL, if it were flag football, would somehow make the flag removal subjective.

  34. Well, the league has never had any problems with rules that involve the "subjectivity of the call", now, has it? I'm confident that every official will see it the same way and call it the same way every play, every game, and that point spreads will, in no way, enter into the decision-making process.

  36. Trading Tee Higgins makes no sense for the Bengals, he's worth more to us than any draft pick at this point. No rookie WR is going to come in and have the same impact of Tee Higgins unless it's one of the top 3 WRs in the draft and even that is arguable. I don't think any team is going to give the Bengals a first-round pick for Tee so trading him for a 2nd pick when you can probably get a 3rd round comp pick in the future. Tee will have to stay in Cincy and get his $21 million, as long he doesn't have a career ending injury he will hit FA and get even more money ala Jessie Bates. Bates has made $36 million in the last two seasons, so the franchise tag worked out well for him.

  37. I agree. Things have gotten much better since the younger generation started to exert more control but how hard is it to look around at the other more successful franchises and copy what they do? They were literally handed a government protected money printing press where losing money actually takes effort. Don’t forget they also held the city hostage for a new stadium that the taxpayers of Hamilton county got to pay for. I don’t blame them, I would have done the same but there is a reason the US used to frown on monopolies. Clark Hunt inherited the Chiefs 14 years ago and has been the CEO for 17 years. There is no doubt he is as cheap an owner as you will ever meet but at least they win.

  38. Thanks for posting this. The NFL has made this VERY WORDY AND CONFUSING but it is very similar - I'd say nearly identical - to the kickoff rule used in the XFL. Here's a video explaining the XFL kickoff rule - if you understand this, you'll pretty much understand the NFL version. (This video explains ALL of the major XFL/NFL rule changes, kickoff was explained first so you only need to watch the first 40-50 seconds to get it.) It dramatically cut down on injuries, and turned the return basically into something similar to the old schoolyard game "Red Rover" that we used to play when I was a kid. If the returner can find a hole and bust thru, he'll have only the kicker to beat to get to paydirt. The first KO TD was scored - of course - by the St Louis BattleHawks. Ka-Kaw!! In 2023, the XFL modified the rules, adding stuff like "landing zones" and such, and it ended up making the kickoffs LESS exciting, as it resulted in the returner getting posession signficantly further behind the faceoff line, allowing the defense time to collapse and penetrate the returning team's line, limiting the opportunities for the returner to find the "Red Rover" hole and punch through. I always thought that if the teams lined up five or ten yards closer to the returning team's end zone, the returner would have a better chance of busting through the line even though the defenders are all closer to him at the start. We'll see if the NFL's tweaks will improve this back to the "cool" level that the 2020 XFL set of return rules had.

  40. Just going back to 2000, you have the following 1st round OL picks: 2018 21 Billy Price C Ohio State 2012 27 Kevin Zeitler G Wisconsin 2002 10 Levi Jones T Arizona 2009 6 Andre Smith T Alabama 2015 21 Cedric Ogbuehi T Texas A&M 2019 11 Jonah Williams T Alabama So, two interior guys compared to 4 tackles. The 2nd round is 1 Guard vs. 3 Tackles: 2003 33 Eric Steinbach G Iowa 2006 55 Andrew Whitworth T LSU 2015 53 Jake Fisher T Oregon 2021 46 Jackson Carman T Clemson What they do draft a lot of high is defensive backs. Tons of them in the 1st 2 rounds.
