I Need A Job

Bunghole

Recommended Posts

Well guys, it looks like the company I work for, WashPro Carwash, is being sold, probably to Mike's Express. I have managed both of our locations for three years, and if employment retention with Mike's is what the current owner is referring to as "being taken care of", then I probably want to get out of the carwash business.
In my line of work, my responsibilities included maintenance (plumbing, electrical repair, knowledge of pumps, hydraulic motors, etc), making the employee schedules for both locations (25 employees), handling payroll and commissions, being responsible for thousands of dollars of inventory and supplies, making thousands of dollars of bank deposits, dealing with the public, handling damage claims, opening the store every morning at 6:00am, etc.

I would need to maintain my current salary of 50k at a minimum, with benefits due to family.
If anyone local knows of a position where I could utilize my management skills and make this kind of money or more, please post here or PM me as I am in the process of putting my resume together.
Any help would be appreciated.
I just bought a house, dammmit!

Thanks for the well-wishes, but if the economy is all George Bush's fault, then the Bengals problems are all Chad Johnsons fault (to use your example)!!

i was going to mention this later but since it's already brought up, my family sold the melting pot here in cincinnati. the new owner takes over on Novermber 1st. we did not put the restaurant for sale or anything, the guy approached us with a killer offer, well over a mill. any ways, we're going to open one in centerville hopefully in April, right down the road from the dayton mall, can't wait. it'll be a new store, but in the mean time, im like you bung, i won't have a job as of november 1st as well <_<

Bung, hope it all works out for you. I know how hard it is to find a job. Here I am, a year after being licensed, over 200 applications, and zero job offers.

That's why I have decided to roll the dice and go off on my own. My friend just got licensed too so the dream is a reality. I just need to cut the cord from my pseudo-job now.

Rumble, congrats on selling the business. I just went to Melting Pot down here for the first time (the little lady is quite fond of it), and it was really delicious and a fun experience but apparently my eyes popped out of my head at the bill! But I always do that. Apparently everyone thought I was just joking and knew I did it, but the truth is, no, no I didn't).

Anyway, good luck with the new restaurant.

The latest unemployment rate is 4.7% (for September 2007) which is actually pretty good.

That doesnt really tell me much, what are the wages? I mean if alot of people are working at McDonalds it would reduce the unemployment rate.

That's the national rate. The unemployment rate for the East North Central zone (includes the States of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin) is at 5.7% for September 2007, down from 5.8% in August 2007, but still the worst performing zone in the country.

Typically unemployment rates are also understated anywhere between 0.5-1.2 pts in experience. Simply because of the definitions. Someone has to register with the unemployment office and be actively classified as "seeking work" to be included in the stats . If they choose to stay home after losing their job and surf porn all day, they're not factored in. This is somewhat offset by people working in the underground economy and also the "gray" economy...e.g. people making money off undeclared income, ebay, online gambling etc.

Edit: And like Jamie said, it's not a great qualitative measure of employment/ wages etc.

Earnings by job and sector when analyzed over the various regions would be a better indicator:

Can't seem to find the report for 2007, but I remember reading earlier, in terms of year over year wage changes, Ohio and the other states that form the east north central zone were lagging the rest of the country.

Also it doesn't factor in underemployment, I believe. The legal market in Texas stinks right now because of the precious Tort Reform, and who wins? Why, insurance companies of course. The losers are lawyers and, oh yeah, the people who get hurt and need help.

The game is rigged.

They are. If you don't think so, you aren't paying attention.

If you don't think they are getting screwed, you are not tapping the pulse of the legal market. Seriously.

If lawyers lose so much in tort cases, why do they bother taking them? No one is forcing them to bring these suits.
