WR Antonio Bryant

I mentioned on twitter the other day that I thought WR Antonio Bryant would a good fit the Bengals. Bryant has had a few issues early in his career, but he is a really good player. He is similar to Chad Ochocinco with his route running but plays with a mean streak similar to WR Steve Smith of the Panthers. When he played for the Browns, I remember him talking to one of our DBs during the game and after the game the DB told me Bryant is nuts. I think if the Bengals were choosing between T.O and Bryant, Bryant would be a better fit. Both are super talented, but Marvin Lewis hates self promotion. I know he deals with some of Chads celebrations and things off the field, but he really just wants a guy to be a football player. Marvin also likes his players to have a chip on their shoulder, and Bryant seems to have that. The only concern the team may have is the knee that Bryant hurt last year, but that seems to be fine. Here's a good read on Antonio from two seasons ago…click here

I think Bryant is probably a little better than TO at this point in their careers, but TO would undoubtedly have better chemistry with Chad and would be cheaper too. TO also has better size. If Bryant is a the diva they say he is, I could see he and Chad clashing, whereas while TO is a diva too, he and Chad are good friends.

Should be interesting to see which one of them they get, if either.

I think Bryant is the better athlete than TO at this point and would welcome him as an addition to the team. He would solve several problems in that he is a great vertical threat, he is tough over the middle and he can run after the catch. However, his playing track record is not as good as TO's and although it seems silly to say it, I think TO might be a better teammate/locker room personality than Bryant. I guess that's up to the Bengals to decide and as long as we get one of them I'll be happy, but not if it means they don't target a receiver in the first two rounds because neither of these guys is anything close to a long term solution.

Personally I would rather have T.O. and draft a WR in the top 3 rounds.

I think Bryant is overrated. And has only had 1 really good season.
And only had 2 one thousand yard seasons in his career.

I too think Chad and T.O. would have a lot better chemistry.
Coles didn't seem to even want to have anything to do with Chad.

I think Id rather have TO too...but I wouldnt be against Antonio Bryant. He put up 1200+ yards with Jeff Garcia as a qb and no one on the other side as good as chad.

I think TO would be more fun and would be more of a TD threat.

He's had some pretty lousy quarterbacks throwing him the ball most of his career though.

bryants always had crap for QBs except that 1 good year and hasnt really had good WRs line up opposite of him either.

TO is the better WR but Bryant is only 28 and could be a multi year fix and TO would be a 1 year fix.

If we could get BOTH TO and Bryant...THEN I'd be happy and feel better about that bullshit in Baltimore; otherwise...F'm

not a chance on both and what is so damn scary about baltimore? if baltimore gets a 2nd good WR then i am fearing them but until they do that im not scared of their offense and they spent how many years with derrick mason and refused to add to him? i assume they will waste boldins ability by getting him 0 help and letting him fight through double teams all season long.

He is still overrated.

I don't think people rate Antonio Bryant high enough to call him overrated. Four different teams in 7 seasons is probably a sign that his value can't be all that high throughout the league.

To play devil's advocate, here's a list of the QB's who have thrown to Antonio Bryant:

Quincy Carter
Vinny Testaverde
Jeff Garcia
Kelly Holcomb
Trent Dilfer
Charlie Frye
Alex Smith
Shaun Hill
Brian Griese
Josh Freeman
Byron Leftwich
Josh Johnson

There's a lot of bums on that list and his career numbers don't seem all that bad when viewed in that light.
