Come on, you dont break a $550,000,000 lease. It doesnt happen. Period. The penalty of breaking a lease on something that expensive would likely be enough that they would have to sell the team just to absorb the cost.

It is completely irrational to think they can up and move from a county that built them a half BILLION dollar stadium.

This isnt an apartment lease, or a restaurant space lease. This is one of the most expensive stadiums in the country. There is no feasible way for them to walk away, other than Hamilton county defaulting on their end, which I dont think could happen either.

Wasn't PBS only $290million?

its silly that you think it means anything. Often times, a Bengals home game will outdraw an entire Reds home series.

I could care less honestly. I thought it was more funny than anything. Shows you how clueless most "fans" are.

ANY lease can be broken or re-worked. LA wants 2 teams - 2 cats?

soP isn't going to make any significant changes. In spite of attendance, NFL socialism provided another profitable year for him. None of it matters.

Reading Philly.com every day...why not talk about the Los Angeles Eagles while we're at it?

I sort of knew, after the first few non-stealer games this year, that averages would be in the 40's for the entire year. That would be the season ticket base, plus a few drifters here and there.

After the preseason negativity, plus the economy, it wasn't going to change much--regardless of the fortunes of the team on the field.

It will take an entire off-season of marketing to fill in some of the empty spaces. It will improve, I have no doubt, but next year I still would not expect the crowds to be any higher than the mid-50's. Might take two more full seasons (and an improved economy and team) to get back to straight sellouts again.

You don't think the economy is bad at other NFL cities but we are probably dead last or close to it in the league. Mike Brown is his own worst enemy when it comes to marketing this team. Every time he opens his mouth he manages to galvanize another group of fans against this team. He already has lost one complete generation of potential fans and if he isn't careful he is going to lose another one. Traditional Cincinnati loyalty to this team is coming apart and the economy is only a small part of the problem. I go to every home game and I can tell you the fan experience isn't getting any better. Concessions, atmosphere, etc., are really lacking. What happened to the halftime entertainment, the flyover, $1 hot dogs, just to name a few? PB was tight but he realized the value of entertaining the crowd on and off the field, Mike hasn't got a clue. I have been to Baltimore, KC, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Indy and Cleveland for away games and Mike could really learn something from just seeing how these places operate. But then again he wouldn't because he doesn't care when he is one of the most profitable franchises in the league

bengals fans should be glad fans arent showing. if fans show up your playing right into MBs hands. As long as he cant sell that game he will be forced to make changes to improve the team and fans are smart they still wont go if they wanna see the team win consistently.

Now if fans start showing up once the team wins again MB will have won and start going cheap again and the team will fall apart.

Dont fall into his trap, and dont show up no matter what.

I don't understand. It's sports. No team is "guaranteed" a playoff/ Super Bowl appearance every year. You root for your team, they lose. You go to the next year. Even last year they put an effort to put a good team on the field, if not they would not have brought T.O. in.. At that time, everyone thought all we needed was another WR to go along side of Chad, we had a top 10 defense and the offense stunk.. they looked to improve the team. IDK. Is it because they are not making the "BIG" signings? Ask the Eagles how is that turning out for them this year.

Stupid. Now were back to blaming mike for no changes even though there was as much of an overhaul in the offseason as there could possibly be with the exception of coaches. Some people are completely clueless.

No shit. I'm not sure what people need exactly to enjoy an NFL football game. Clowns juggling? A built in dick massager at your seat??? Free weed?

It's funny, this board went from "OMG Brown is executive of the year!!!11" to "OMG Mike Brown is the reason nobody goes to games and I hope he dies!!!111" in a 4 week period.

And the "overhaul" took place in actually a shortened period of time than an entire off-season would have been.

The WhoDeyRevolutionaries who frequent Bengal boards will never be satisfied...ever. Nothing short of MB's departure--or the Bengals as a franchise for that matter--will sate their chronic bellyaching. Try to look past them...if that is even possible.

This thread wasn't started to be an appraisal/bashing of Mike Brown. It is a question on what are the immediate factors keeping people from the game. Maybe people are that instinant that Mike Brown is terrible and bad for this organization, but if that was the only reason, did they just come to that realization in the offseason?
NFL Rumors: San Diego Chargers Will Become the Los Angeles Chargers in 2012

San Diego Chargers fans might be in a state of consternation after news swiftly circulated that the Los Angeles City Council passed the financial outline of a covenant between Anschutz Entertainment Group and the city to build Farmers Field, a $1.2 billion stadium that will become the luring place and home of a current NFL franchise. The deal is designed to put at least one NFL franchise in Farmers Field in 2016 and has condensed the checklist of obstacles to bring professional football back to Los Angeles to only a few things. These remaining hurdles include an environmental impact report and getting a team to agree to move. Both of these items on the checklist will need to be completed by spring 2012 in order for construction to launch June 1, 2012.

The perceived front-runner to take its talents to Los Angeles seems to be the Chargers because of their intricate lease circumstance with their current home provider, Qualcomm Stadium. The stadium is one of the five oldest NFL stadiums, and the Chargers have had difficulties with getting a new stadium built in neighboring San Diego cites such as Chula Vista and Ocean Side over the years. The Chargers do currently have a proposal for a stadium in downtown San Diego; however, the proposition seems to me to be a slight possibility since the plan has not been backed by local officials.

Additionally, the Chargers have an opt-out clause in their lease, in which they have the ability to announce intentions to abscond from San Diego between Feb. and May of each year, through 2020. To accomplish a successful extinction of the lease, the Chargers would be charged a fee, which would stand at $24 million after this season.

It is because of these events and the timelines that will follow why the Chargers make the most sense to become Los Angeles’ latest professional team. Like the Raiders and Rams, the Chargers were a franchise in Los Angeles once before. In fact the team started out in Los Angeles in its inaugural season in which the team went 10-4 and lost the AFL championship to the Houston Oilers.

Should the Chargers announce an exodus campaign by the May 2012 deadline, don’t be surprised to see the Chargers playing at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum or Rose Bowl Stadium next season and beyond, until Farmers Field has been built. Both stadiums are capable of holding 90,000-plus spectators, and the Rose Bowl will be host to the 2014 BCS title game for college football.

To the naked eye and on paper, the Chargers seem to be the final piece of the puzzle to the resurgence of the NFL in Los Angeles. The city has already revamped downtown and has the Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers and Kings, along with the L.A. Live structure to entertain. Get ready to add the Chargers to this list, Angelinos.
