Steelers Week Notes Part Deux

Recommended Posts

Unless I made a mistake in my quick and dirty research, here are the home teams records in SNF games since NBC began broadcasting in 2006...

2013:  11-5

2012:  12-4

2011:  11-6

2010:    9-7

2009:    8-8

2008:    9-7

2007:    7-9

2006:    6-9

The Stealers are 8-9 overall in NBC SNF games, 2-4 at home and 6-5 on the road.

The Bengals are 0-3 overall in NBC SNF games, 0-1 at home and 0-2 on the road.

Two of the Bengals three SNF games have been against Pittsburgh (will now be 3 of 4), with the Stealers winning 24-10 at Pittsburgh in 2007 and 24-17 in Cincinnati in 2012.

After sweeping the sorry bastards in the 2009 season, the Bengals lost five straight in the series.  They will now be going for their third straight win in the series, something they have not done since going 6-0 in the 1988, 1989, and 1990 seasons.

For once there might be more Bengals fans in Pitt than Pitt fans. That place looked empty today.

Field level seats can be had on Seat Geek for $48 in the end zones and $80 on the sidelines.  Sideline uppers are at $33.  If I lived in Ohio I'd be tempted to make that four-hour trip.

Time to take an extended look at our first round CB from last year.

I'm starting to change my mind on this.  Or at least my thinking.  I wanted a 1st round CB, but Dre and Ghee, despite not playing much, have stayed healthy, and the ageless vets seem to be staying young...

Well, I haven't given it up yet, bc it's just such a premium position, but I AM really starting to lean toward bringing in a new DE with the 1st round pick.  We need to improve the pass rush.

Good news on T.  Should give him a little rest before the playoffs.  Although the faster he makes it back, the better.

Dre is going to have quite a matchup this week.  Brown has been playing very well lately.  Going to have to step his game up.

Getting the best DT in the NFL next year will help that.

Dre has been playing well in limited snaps as of late, but I still have CB at the top of my list.

For now.

Dre and Ghee could change that over the next 2 months.

I guess I worry that the best DT in the NFL had an ACL tear.  Yes, he has serious power but even that power is predicated on his quickness.

I take heart in knowing that the technology has advanced by light years, but still, it's no given that we'll have what we did.

The biggest issue is that I'm just not seeing the speed rushes around the edge get there -- pretty much ever.  Now, the Joker LB pass-rush specialist (which has a TON of talent this year) is one way to kill two birds with one stone, but given that keeping MJ is not terribly likely, it's a position I'm going to have at the tippy top of my scouting list.

With Geathers likely done and MJ probably not returning I can see the Bengals drafting a DE in the first round, either that or a CB because Newman isn't getting any younger and Hall will be coming back from another serious injury so we will need to restock the cupboards at both positions. Besides in today's NFL you can never have enough pass rushers or pass defenders.

I hope to God they bring back MJ

Isn't Collins a free agent? Wouldn't surprise me to see an offensive lineman selected in round one.

They will. MJ will take less money to stay with a team he loves.

We'd be crazy not to kick the tires on Troy if he indeed does get cut.  His durability is shaky, but he showed yesterday that theres still some gas left in the tank.

He would be pretty effective in a Crocker type role I would think.

If Zimmer is here there is no way we look at someone like Troy. He is a freelancer and this defense is predicated on everyone doing their jobs. We go for the sound non-flashy types, not the guys who get an Int one play and find themselves way out of position on the next 3.

Pretty sure what you call freelancing is designed deception by Lebeau. Troy is rarely out of position and his teammates know where he'll be on each play.
